    Ribeye

I love to try a new spot when traveling. Little tapas is always the key to be able to try multiple dishes. we had Mediterranean Trio House classic Hummus, Babaganoush, and Romesco served with grilled Pita bread. My favorite was the Romesco, it had a very unique and good flavor to it. Seafood Paella Shrimp, calamari, mussels, peas, saffron and bomba rice. This one didn't have as much flavor as we would like. Creamy Seafood Pasta Squid ink pasta with cherry tomato, jumbo shrimp, fresh fish, squid and mussels in a creamy saffron sauce. This is one of my favorite dish and the little 6year old we had there loved it too. 12 oz Prime Ribeye Crushed Yukon gold potatoes served with chimichurri and blue cheese. Good potatoes and the chimichurri was a nice touch for the ribeye. Shishito pepper lacked flavor, we just paired it with our food. I really like the inside, it's really Latin vibe Service was good and attentive

CATALAN RESTAURANT in Rancho Mirage is only 15 minutes from downtown Palm Springs, and well worth the short drive. We came for their SUMMER PREFIX SPECIAL MENU and it did not disappoint. This is an amazing offer of three delicious courses: A starter choice of one of three excellent salads, a choice of varied entrées, including their famous mixed seafood, chicken and sausage paella (omg! The BEST!) and a choice of two super delicious top of the line desserts, all for $50! Unbelievable value! The beautiful rooms which are filled with art and high ceilings and the large bright patio at Catalan whisked me away to the Catalonia area north of Barcelona where I spend a good amount of vacation time. The food here is just as delicious as it was there, maybe better. Everything on the menu is great but at this time of year the thing to come for is this summer special. Even the desserts were perfect. Hot from the fryer churros filled with melting hot fudge were literally the best we have ever tasted. And we also had a very caramelly cream caramel served pot de crème style, which was equally delicious and a wonderful counterpoint to the hot churros Service from this family owned and run business was attentive and friendly. The wine list was excellent and I chose a Spanish red to accompany my dinner. They have a nightly happy hour in the large bar area, too, with discounted specials and its own menu. Free parking in their adjacent lot.

The pesto dip here. !!! Fantastic

Ok, not great. Not sure what their identity is, Spanish? Mediteranean? Nonetheless, not important. The Paella looks great in pics, but ordered, and just ok. The pesto dip with bread was probably my favorite . vERY good. Scallops, again, just ok. Cooked well, flavor so so.

I am always looking for a place that has great food and service. As soon as I entered I was greeted by Grace who also was the person to be my server. The service was great from beginning to end. Not only was Grace kind and attentive, I met the owner/manager of the establishment who was just as wonderful. My food was delicious. It was a seafood soup. The restaurant itself looked as if it belonged on a movie set. It was a great experience all the way around.

Back for our annual visit to Palm Desert. We were seated and served right way on Wednesday evening. The bread and pesto was so delicious, we had refrain ourselves from filling up on bread! We ordered octopus (tender), lamb (cooked medium rare), fish (flaky), and seafood paella (could use more seasoning).

It was our 43rd anniversary and I wanted to try someplace new in the area of Rancho Mirage. Catalan was easy to find on Hwy 111 and has ample parking to the left of the building . Inside there are booths , tables and an indoor patio as well . Our server was Darwin who recommended the paella and the branzino . We opted for the mixta paella which had mussels , shrimp , calamari, chicken and chorizo . I chose the branzino with saffron risotto and spinach. For an appetizer we tried the fried calamari which was super tender with a light fried batter..... delish ! The branzino is the winner -- pan fried with a light yellow sauce , more than enough for one person . For dessert the restaurant provided a complimentary salt caramel custard for our anniversary what a nice touch ! Needless to say we had a great experience and plan to be back to try the other menu items . Nice local folks that you should try !

We've been on the hunt for a great tapas spot in the desert and are so happy we found Catalan! The food was incredible, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service somehow topped it all. It's family-owned, and we loved getting to meet different members of the family throughout the night. Do yourself a favor and check this place out--you'll be supporting an amazing family while enjoying a fantastic meal.

Best dessert I've ever had (custard). Fantastic paella (with soccarat!). Delicious octopus appetizer, yummy olives, great wine. Friendly service and SO gracious to newcomers. Don't miss this cultural treat!

We brought our friend who lives in Palm Desert. Like us, he'd seen this place a number of times but had never been. Warmly greeted by the hostess and sat in the atrium at her recommendation. Cocktails ordered and the hot bread and pesto brought out promptly. I went with the fixed price dinner - arugula and apple salad, rib eye and chocolate filled churro. Everything was delicious and I heard big raves about the octopus starter. The hot, chocolate filled churro was one of the best things I've had in a bit. Forgot to use our coupon from our June visit but maybe we'll remember to pull it out on our next trip. Although it was getting late, did not feel rushed at all.

Amazing ambiance, the restaurant is set up very uniquely and it is definitely a vibe. The owners and staff were absolutely the sweetest. I went with the prefix menu, and tried the patella. It was amazing!! I can't stop thinking about that salad also. Looking forward to coming back and trying some Tapas. The drinks were also great, I really appreciated the great selection of drinks and the additive free tequila was awesome too. Will definitely be back!!!

I would recommend to this owner that they match the quality with the prices and definitely do some training on the service!

I think we unfortunately caught the server on her first night so not 100% her fault we ordered a charcuterie board and it literally came out with one meat one cheese, some very stale bread and olives although the menu said pickled cauliflower and we asked for a replacement and she came back with the olives and said this is all I have the manager eventually brought carrots out, but it was a $50 board for what should've been about a $15 board. Other items on other tables look very good so maybe they're great. The pricing seemed expensive for the quality. There was a smell of urine when you first walk into the door. The place definitely did not feel like it had been cleaned in a while.

Fish of the day over saffron risotto

After a day of sightseeing we were hungry, driving down Hwy 111 and didn't have a reservation on a Friday night. We saw Mediterranean on their restaurant sign and quickly pulled in. The woman at the front desk (who happened to be the owner) asked if we had a reservation and when we said no, gave us a couple of options for seating. We chose a table in the front. We were waited on promptly and spent a lot of time perusing their menu because there were so many wonderful choices. I have to mention their bread and herb dipping sauce, it was that good! I had the fish of the day (swordfish) my friends had the seafood (squid ink) pasta and chicken pesto pasta. All of our dishes were excellent. The sauce that my saffron risotto and fish sat on was so good, I wanted to lick my plate clean. Good thing we saved some of that delicious bread. The owner came over to our table after our meal and gave us some history of the restaurant as she and her husband have only owned the restaurant for a year or so. I will definitely be back the next time I vacation in Palm Prings

Everything we tried was great, from the octopus, paella mixta and churros. The drinks were pretty good too. Service was great, it was not busy at all during the week for Kate dinner.

Parking is all around the area but can get crowded because of the other places to eat around there, be patient , people are coming and going . All the dishes we tried were delicious. The scallops negro was a good appetizer along with the crab enchiladas which was a decent proportion sized dish . We had to try the "La Super Tabla" . It's quite much for 2 people but with a party of 3-4 , you'll take it down easy. I like everything on this specific dish except the pork belly. It was quite tough to eat, might have been over cooked but it did have flavor , the pieces were kind of hard . The octopus was flavorful and the steak was very tender even though it was cooked well done , we requested medium rare but it was still tender. The calamari was also a tiny bit tough , it was more like a calamari steak, and a tiny bit chewy. The octopus was delicious , soft not chewy and the shrimp was yum. Last but least, the Flan for dessert. Flan is my favorite dessert and the pistachio flan made here was awesome , it's a must try if you have room for dessert . Definitely will be coming back next time I'm in the desert.

We ordered empanadas and two chickens. The empanadas were tasty. A bit different in texture than what I'm used to, but the filling was nice....beef, onions, raisins. But the chicken? Even though these were supposedly smoked, I smelled only the faintest of smoke. The birds had ZERO juiciness, although they were reasonably tender. I guess I got used to that huge rotating rotisserie at the place I mentioned in Los Angeles with 100 birds going at any time, so what you got was right out of the fire. Here, the chicken tasted it it may have been very lightly smoked and then reheated a day or two later. That may or may not be the case, but It just wasn't special. It was marginally better than El Pollo Loco. Update: 1 day later after being in the fridge, I could taste the smokiness much more prominently. I shredded the remaining chicken (breasts and wings), simmered it in lime juice and chicken brothn to make it tender, and had it in tacos. Delicious! The rice was good. The salads ok--fresh but not really dressed. I didn't like their aji. I'd like to try some other items. They have a nice full Peruvian menu.
