Ordered mixed greens which was good nice dressing thought there was either horseradish or mustard . I asked the server and she thought it was horseradish . She thought? She wasn't sure?? She works there? We also Had the wedge which had a nice dressing . The pork tenderloin was delicious. How ever I ordered a side of carrots and my entree came with carrots, why she didn't tell me I'm not sure. I also ordered the snap peas and they never showed up. We also had the veal mileanse which had a nice Arugula salad a top . The dish was good but needed some seasoning in The breading. Desert we had the rice pudding which was really good. We have eaten here before but NEVER on a holiday like Valentine Day. Wild weather hampered the seatings in the restaurant as they have an interior patio but several tables couldn't be used due to dripping rain. Needless to say, reservations were a tad late. But despite that, we had a fabulous evening!! A $90 per person Prefix meal was promptly served course by course and all were fantastic! Wedge salad, charred octopus appetizer, a fabulous pork chop and a tasty caramel creme dessert for me and an Arugula apple salad, fried crab balls (can't remember the French name), rack of lamb cooked perfectly and a cheesecake with fruit compote on top...all amazing!! They had lots of serving staff so not a problem ever waiting except at the end when our waiter seemed to disappear for quite some time and it took about 30 minutes to get our check. Again, did not detract from the evening. We brought our own wine so nothing to report there but $30 corkage fee seemed steep. I applaud the owner who I met and his staff for providing a lovely evening for those who focused on the right things....good food and great service!! read more

I came in for dinner on a Tuesday expecting an slow night here. So wrong they were busy but I was able to get a table inside. The decor inside is unique with a high rooftop ceiling sand a outdoor patio that sits in the rear centered of the restaurant. I started off with a Sangria which was refreshingly tasty. The complimentary chicken liver pate, olives, bread and olive oil was pleasant tasting before my main entree arrived. The Paella for one - Monk fish, Chorizo, Clams, Mussels, Shrimp. Prepared with Saffron Matiz Valencia Rice. The seafood portion was generous, fresh tasting and the chorizo was lean and delish. The place is very cozy, excellent environment, fabulous service from all staff and specially by the owner (wife of the chef). The octopus is to die for. The prosciutto and manchego cheese were delicious. The Paella, is not the typical Spanish Paella, completely different. Even though the owner explained about the different color and flavor, I thought it still had some Spanish flavor. It was good but not waooo... My suggestion would be to call it Mediterranean Rice but not Paella, especially when the Restaurant's name is Catalan, people expects real Paella. We were so excited to dine here after seeing a nice review in a magazine but the paella was truly truly bad. It was burned, over cooked again and had not enough rice. We paid and left. We were first thrown off a bit by the "outdoor" eating area. It's basically an atrium with a canvas rooftop with a small area open to air atop. We were seated amongst a lot of people (although definitely at least 6 ft apart). A few four tops but mostly larger groups 6, 8, 10. The area and amount of people made us nervous because of the potential virus exposure. Food was really really good. Started with the octopus (which was extremely tender and delicious), then went on to the ribeye, stuffed peppers and arugula salad. We fully enjoyed our dinner. The one suggestion would be that when the busboy would come around he would pick up our glass to refill our water. But, then he would proceed to go to the next table and pick up their glass and refill. All it takes is an infected person and someone eating a piece of bread. Cross-contamination is a real possibility. Delicious food. Can't wait to come back when the virus is gone! read more

Kiersten our waitress steered us through the menu on a Thursday night as we neglectfully "forgot" our reading glasses. Besides, she works there, eats there and knows what's a hit or miss. We really enjoyed our evening because of Kiersten. Started with the bread & pesto with the oh so fresh ingredients. Loved the Sangria with the green apples that really held the alcohol taste. Cute wine glasses with their logo, they should sell them - right Kiersten?? We also tried the Estrella Inedit beer kept chilled in marble - surprisingly refreshing, thirst quenching, and very tasty. Selected the garlic shrimp, mussels and goat cheese stuffed piquillo peppers for the mixed tapas plate. The richly flavoured paella, veal skirt steak with that amazing brussel sprout bacon jam and the berry apple empanadas with lavender honey did not disappoint. Very flavorful but, not how I could eat everyday. We enjoyed the live guitar music which carried in this high ceiling location. Dined at Catalan last evening. This is the second time at the restaurant (and probably our last). Our dinner companions chose Catalan because they had never tried it and they wanted to try the paella. Upon arrival, for a 7:30 reservation, the restaurant didn't seem particularly busy. We were seated relatively promptly and given limited menus since they were participating in Restaurant Week in the valley. When our server finally came back to the table, we were informed that they were out of multiple items on their already abbreviated menu. We were starting to place our orders when the server abruptly walked off to another table. When he finally came back about 10 minutes later, we made our selections only to find out at the end of the main course that the dessert selections we had made upon our original order had also become unavailable. They offered some mediocre alternatives that we decided against and called it a night. Sadly, the facility looked as tired as the service. Nothing screams cleanliness more than a swamp cooler at the front door that hadn't cleaned in months. Looks like to me Catalan should be renamed Catastrophe. read more

This was the first time that I visit Catalán Restaurant, it was to celebrate my Brother's birthday, we were a party of 7. We love Spanish/Mediterranean food, we were looking specifically for Paella and Catalán Restaurant seemed like a good option, we have been wanting to visit for quite some time but it is difficult with a 5PM opening time. I made a reservation, got a text message asking me to confirm that "I'Il be there", I replied "YES" and everything seemed to be on track. I get an E-mail the day of, asking me to confirm that I will be showing up, from my perspective this was already answered by TEXT (don't know how many times is enough to confirm), I didn't see the E-mail until Friday (05/24/2024), by the time I checked, my reservation was already cancelled at 10:59AM even though I confirmed through TEXT MESSAGE. I proceeded to call and left a message (Restaurant does not open until 5PM) to ask them to call me back as soon as possible because my plans for the day were based on that visit to the restaurant. I went ahead and made another reservation (that was confirmed) for 05:30PM just in case. I called multiple times on my way to the restaurant to find out what was going on but noone answered. I made on time for the 05:30PM reservation, I came in and thankfully the place was completely empty but this was very frustrating and upsetting to say the least. I don't know if it is the reservation app or the restaurant but someone has to get it together as you give the impression to be a high end restaurant but this business practice is below standards. That being said, I am understanding and considering that the restaurant was empty I decided to not make a big deal about it and move on. We were sat by a very nice hostess/waiter, she was super friendly, professional and overall delightful. As we were going through the menus I noticed that there was some type of sauce on multiple pages. Once again, I exercised empathy, brought it up to the waiters attention (she apologized properly) so it didn't happen with other clients later on the day. This wouldn't be a big deal but it might be linked or give the impression to be linked to the reason I am writing this review, the service, food and ambience get 5, 1 and 3 respectively, the food was OK (a 3) but my son came back home and was unable to sleep because he was vomiting (5 to 6 times) throughout the night, he is dealing with a 100.8 fever, a headache and symptoms potentially related to contaminated foods, drinks, or surfaces. I was already thinking about not coming back but after this, I will DEFINITELY NOT BE COMING BACK. I wanted to send the review and situation directly to the restaurant but there's no way to contact the restaurant other than phone and based on my experience it was not answered and voicemail is not being checked. I would highly recommend to add an E-mail contact as my main intention was to bring my concerns and bad experience to the restaurant Manager/Owners and not expose it in a public set up like yelp. Our family came for Christmas dinner and had the worst dining experience ever. I should have followed my instinct and left the moment we checked in. The host coldly greeted us while looking at her phone, not even looking up to make eye contact. They should have said it is only a prix fixe menu for $80/pp when we made the reservation or when we checked in. Restaurants usually showcase their best items if that is what they want to offer. Unfortunately, they decided to throw items together without regard for their customers during this special night. The Caesar salad served is at best 4 spoonful of romaine lettuce and crackers sprinkled on top. With already a very limited menu, they ran out of the bone marrow so we ended up with the chicken liver that was over fried and burnt. The paella was so wet that it resembles a risotto. We also had to wait a long time in between courses. Sadly, the best part of the meal was the vanilla ice cream which I could have bought from the store. I was staying in Palm Springs and saw Catalan reviews about the scallops and so many pics showing large scrumptious scallops grilled to perfection. So, I placed an order online with the scallop entree and when I got back to my hotel room I opened the entree box and found small scallops that didn't have any grill markings on them they were soft and unflavored. I ate half and threw away the other half. Very dissatisfied. Will not return on my annual vacation in PS. Very expensive for what I received read more

Usually when writing a review it's hard to find a place to begin. Not the case for this dinner experience. Right when my wife and I walked into the door the host asked his coworker to take menus to a table that was already seated. And then stated "I'll take care of these kids". That started the dinner off on the wrong foot. Then we order and the paella was too hot to eat for nearly 15 minutes. With both of these piled on top of each other I wish we would have never came here. Not worth the $100 and date night ruined. This review is long overdue. We have been coming to Catalan for the last 5 years. It is our "place." Everything is world class. The octopus is THE BEST I have ever had....I rarely order b/c it is always friend. Catalan grills it and the pieces are cut diagonally so they are almost like a filet. We often order a 2nd after finishing the 1st. Catalan is under new ownership and it doesn't look like they have skipped a beat. Corey, who previously was the best bar tender ever is now the manager. The restaurant couldn't be in better hands. Corey is so warm and attentive. He exudes customer service. And the environment is amazing. The outdoor patio could be anywhere on the Mediterranean coast. We happened to come here during the dead of off-season so had the outdoor patio to ourselves- whole place really - until dessert when a large family of 10 went into the dining room... The food was exactly what we were hoping for and made well - good wine list. Not 5 stars only because we eat out a LOT. And travel- so 5 stars reserved for the Daniel B/ Thomas K/ Shiro, etc. dining "experiences"--but for a great meal in a comfy setting with full bar and good wine list so close to home? Another great recommendation from friends for our trip...Catalan was excellent and we came on a Wednesday in September, which meant 1) the place was pretty dead at 7 PM and 2) it was half-price wine night, so for less than $100, we did some major damage. Catalan has a two-course fixed-price menu, so we tried the gazpacho and steak for one of our meals and the watermelon/burrata app with the half-size paella dish (each was $25, with a few bucks extra for the burrata). The gazpacho had a lot of flavor, although my mistake was eating indoors and ordering a chilled soup...that fits better for the hot evening air in Rancho Mirage. The burrata was excellent and the steak was working also...but that paella was strong and packed a big punch for just a six-inch skillet with all of the meats thrown into the thing. To round out the meal, we ordered a completely unnecessary dessert--the chocolate-filled churros were good and damn, they were large, although I guess for $14 they needed to be! Not as good as the ones I had at The Loyalist in Chicago last year, but still solid. We thought the space was...fine. Strangely, just fine. Not a destination, nothing particularly special, but it fits for an older-school, rustic Mediterranean meal, I guess. Still, not noteworthy, and if there was a patio (maybe in the middle of the restaurant?), we were not offered a chance to sit there. If you wan to have a great holiday dinner...... DO NO GO HERE! They ran out of everything. Served marinara sauce like warm as tomato bisque, octopus was squish and extra. Salty, water, once finally offered 30 mins later, was cloudy and tasted like sewage. We of 6 decided to leave and offered to pay for fountains drinks and a 75 fiver. The waiter then waived his hands in digests shooing motion and told us to never come back! We understood they were over booked and not the waiters fault. And was still planning on tipping him until he said that. So we left starving as our reservations at 730pm was pushed back to 8:30pm then 9:20om left with minors starving in Christmas Day. My friend and I were in the area celebrating her birthday and we decided to stroll around downtown Palm Springs. We saw this place from across the street and both of us love Mediterranean food, so it was a no brainer to go there. My friend is highly gluten intolerant, but the wait staff was so helpful, making sure we ordered something that would not be a problem for her. The food was delicious and the prices very good for the amount of food you got. When in the area again, we will definitely go back and try something else on their vast menu. First, the place have a valet. Second, they usually are very busy so a reservation is the best, Cynthia and her staff are so accomodating. We came on Easter 2018 and we came with 3 kids and 2 adults. Third, the crowd, the staff, the manager, and the chef are so warm, will def stop by here when were in Palm Springs. The decor is so inviting. Now the food, the food and the cocktails is out of this world. They start to get our drinks, I ordered the Sangria. Glad I did and will do it again. Hubby got water, no drink and driving in this family. Then we got biscuits, honey, and butter! Yum! Cynthia and her stafg checks on us to see that our needs are met. They check with every guest, so warm vibe, love it! And since its CHICKEN nite - 3 chicken with leg, thigh, and breast with spinach and home style mac and cheese), we ordered chicken which is so big (our family shared it, it can easily feed 2-3 people). Hubby got paella, super yummy and I, the Branzino. And that's not all, the staff hand us the menu for dessert, OMG! Got the yummy pudding and Cynthia came with a complimentary Catalan style creme brulee! It was a perfect meal to end the beautiful day! The food was delicious and the service from the manager was impeccable. She came out numerous times to check on us since we were a party of 11. The food came out promptly and the servers made sure that everything was ok. Since it was the holidays, there were several families and the service still remained smooth. There was a guitar artist who made the atmosphere very nice. He even played HAPPY BIRTHDAY for my mother. I recommend thus place if you are in the area.
