I have eaten here a couple of times, and the food has been very good. I've had their fried catfish, fried shrimp, and mexican shrimp cocktail. Love the fried catfish, and the tarter sauce is delicious. A lot of places have too much batter on their catfish, or they have tasteless batter. But i think it was perfect and not too oily. Hush puppies were great, moist and fresh. I got all this stuff to go and by the time I got home it was soggy or gross. I can't even imagine how it would be if I actually ate at the restaurant itself. We are always on the hunt for a good catfish place, and my husband has been wanting to go here for awhile. Friday night, not overly crowded and no wait! I am happy already! My husband ordered the catfish basket. Our son ordered the oyster poboy and I ordered the shrimp poboy with a cup of gumbo. Honestly I wasn't impressed with the gumbo...just average. The poboys were ok but not my fave. I like my poboy stuffed with much more shrimp or oysters, and there either was way too much tarter sauce or it was too thin because it was runny and messy. The poboys came with fries and hushpuppies...I love the hushpuppies! These are the long skinny type not the round balls, and I could have eaten a whole basket of these. The catfish was delicious though. Husband loved it and he is picky about his fish. Good size fillets, not too thin or thick, and crispy. (The fish, not my husband.) So my advice is to skip the poboys and go straight for the baskets (catfish, oysters, or shrimp) The staff is friendly and every time someone left, several of the staff would yell out "thank you for coming". What a great hidden gem in this Dallas suburb! If you are in the area and craving cornmeal fried catfish, you should definitely stop here. I had the two fillet catfish basket. The fillets were cooked perfectly in a traditional cornmeal batter. There was plenty of hot sauce choices to select from as well as dry seasonings if you like to spice things up! The staff was very nice and courteous. The only thin that held this place back from getting a "5 Star" rating were the fries and hush puppies. I really think that the chef/owner could come up with a nice recipe for an easy hush puppy instead of selling the hush puppy that was served at my elementary cafeteria. We live walking distance from this joint and frequent it. Never had a bad experience. The seafood is some of the best and most fresh you will find in the metroplex. Having this in a public place with customers eating was not only a turn off, but my concern also for the fish and their environment. I took 3 co-workers to Catfish House yesterday for lunch. I had a shrimp Poboy, another guy had a catfish Poboy, another guy had 2 piece dinner, and the last guy ordered chicken strips. Everything was fresh and tasty. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. My PoBoy had lettuce, tomato, and mayo. The décor is from the SpongeBob Squarepants line? Lots of fish, fishing, and nautical stuff. My hubb and I had catfish plates I added shrimp and it was the most horrible food I have ever purchased. Even my 3 year old trashed her chicken strips. I've lived nearby for two years and finally decided to give this plave a try. I ordered the grilled tilapia with steamed veggies and rice. The entire dish was amazing the tilapia was seasoned and cooked to perfection, as were the veggies and rice. My second order disappointed me to the point of probably never ordering from them again. The catfish has got to be the worst I've ever tasted. The breading is just pure cornmeal based with no added seasoning at all. The hushpuppies are dry and very greasy but have the right amount of spice and they definitely need to step their french fry game. How can a place named the catfish house not be able to serve catfish that lives up to the name. The customer service isn't all that great either.
