We visited here twice in two weeks and thought the food was terrific. Let me also add that we've eaten food all over the world so we know a thing or two about yummy stuff. The first evening was a busy Saturday. We were promptly seated and waited on. The hubs ordered a burger and pronounced it one of the best he'd ever eaten. Trust me, the man has eaten thousands of burgers in his life. I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich and it was excellent. The live guitar music on a Saturday night added a fun vibe to this jumping place. The second time we visited we each ordered the maple bourbon salmon and it was delicious! Even the leftover I had for lunch the next day was excellent. The third time we went we took four friends with us on a special weekend by the Fox River. The town was busy but our service and food was all excellent. The easy parking is an incredible bonus. We're thrilled to have this place as a local place! We will turn into regulars. read more

This is place is so happening and very rustic in appearance. We wanted to eat done real good burgers and so we stopped by here. Since it was a weekend and we didn't book a table we had to wait for 15 mins which is not bad . The place is not huge. We were greeted and then after the wait we got to our table and ordered food. We ordered a flat bread and cheese curds for appetizer and it was good. Then we ordered our burgers. Veggie burgers and the non veggie burger . They could've played around more with ghdd Ed veggie burger by smearing don't mayo and butter on the buns. It was pretty dry except for the fresh veggie, the sweet potato fries were nice. The dessert was the best.Their lemonade is good too. So to say it's a nice place full of action but needs to pay little attention here n there over food. They also have live music too. read more

We were riding on the Fox river trail and used Algonquin as a turnaround stop. Looking around on the main st for options Cattleman was perfect for us. We parked bikes and sat outside to eat. Not really looking for a serious meal we had veggie burgers, cole slaw and fries which were simple but good. The food came in little brown cardboard boxes. I am thankful for any restaurant that avoids foam. A portable hand washing station was much appreciated as were the veggie menu options. Would love to come back and try other items. The atmosphere is super cozy and has plenty of seating outside. The service was good, the menu was huge, and the food was super delicious! We had chicken sandwiches and were both worried when we saw them - the buffalo chicken looked a little overcooked and my bourbon chicken didn't appear to have enough sauce - BUT the chicken was very moist and both sandwiches had plenty of sauce despite the initial appearance. For those that like cole slaw, it was sweet but not too sweet. We split a slice of cheesecake, which was definitely enough for 2 and was sooooo good! Everything exceeded our expectations. I swear i already wrote a review for when I had visited months ago, but it appears to be gone.....? Either way, I *really* enjoyed my trip to the new (old) Cattleman's! Stopped in here over the summer after driving by and noticing it. Upon entering, absolutely loved the ambiance of the place! It's a bit tight, but such warm atmosphere! The place was pretty packed when we stopped, too. Nice line-up of tables, booths, as well as seats at the bar. I remember going to Cattleman's as a kid. So to see it re-open tugged at my heartstrings and i had to check it out. I wasn't disappointed, and just thinking about it is making me want to go back again. I grew up in Algonquin, but live about 40 minutes away now. I still come by every now and then for one thing or another. This place and the Texan are the highest on my list for where to stop and grab a bite. When i went I had my teenage nephew with me. We both got burgers and they were DELICIOUS!! Service was great. Someone (owner? Manager?) came by to say hi and ask us if everything was ok, which i always appreciate. There was also live music and the guy playing did a great job. It definitely added to the ambiance. Overall, i can't wait to come back again and try more things. Highly recommend giving them a try if you're in the neighborhood! read more

Some of the worst food I have ever tasted- my family and I all had upset stomachs after just eating a few bites. My mom ordered the fish fry and since I was not that hungry I ordered the cheese curds- thinking who could go wrong with cheese curds...but oh my. The cheese curds had no flavor whatsoever. The fish was very strange and slimy and just fell apart, it also had a strange smell. Our server was very oblivious and neglectful of us. My friend ordered a chicken sandwich and said it was just ok. The fries were suppose to be beer battered but I don't believe they were. Fries were about the best part of the entire meal. Ha, maybe the popcorn was the best part. Ehh, was just a waste of time and food. Our server asked how the food was and we all replied with "ehh, not the greatest." She proceeded to chuckle and walk away- I guess she thought we were joking. She admitted at the end that she thought we were joking when I lost my cool and told her how horrible the food was. She angrily said "I thought you were just kidding," walked away and then ROLLED HER EYES AT ME and shook her head..like excuse you!! I can still see you from where I am sitting. Also, their COVID precautions are complete garbage, they do not enforce masks and the server kept pulling hers down everytime she talked to us. First off, you are standing over my drink without your mask covering your nose or mouth and secondly, WE CAN HEAR YOU WITH YOUR MASK ON! This entire establishment is horrible and needs to be re-coached or shut down. I think they stay in business from neighborhood regulars, aka the old men who come to just get drinks. First time to this restaurant. Parking in the back was crowded Saturday at about 6:30pm. Had a show wait for a booth as seating is sorta small but the wait was worth it! After a friendly greeting from Jen, our server, we ordered the poutine fries with gravy and cheese curds. If you get the beef topping you may as well call this dinner . Next, we ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich with had two PCs of chicken and a good buffalo sauce...not too hot. We also got the Saturday night prime rib dinner. We took my wife's business partner out for her birthday. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It was dry and pieces were so hard that I thought I had a chicken bone in my mouth. We are our food and moved on. When I got the electronic receipt, the pork sandwich was $2 more that in the menu or online. We came here becuz the website had so many options. My daughter picked it for her sweet 16 birthday dinner while out of town. It was very small and quiet and the food "looked" amazing. When we ordered appetizers at first she was like we might be out of them. We ordered Cattle Balls which sounded and would have been AMAZING if they weren't still frozen in the middle. Then we got cheese curds which were not done either. There was an excuse for everything and it just never made anything better. Then our dinner came out and the burgers were dry and unflavorful and warm to the touch. I ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich, but what I got was a paper thin dry over fried chicken cutlet (paper thin), all of our Mac and cheese was ice cold ( they put shredded cheese on cold noodles and microwaved it) when brought up oh the kitchen must have a problem with the warmer... no they didn't coon any food. The best part of the meal was the ice cream and cake they brought my daughter for her birthday. The worst part was having to pay a $285 bill for cold, unflavorful food and having a 1 star experience. I adore when new independent restaurants open. It combines two aspects of life I truly love: the inspired drive of entrepreneurship, combined with my fairly obvious affinity for food. As a recent transplant to Algonquin, I quickly took notice of the ongoing construction on Main. Cattleman's bright colored yellow and blue building with construction permits on the front window clued me in that a new restaurant was imminent. I found out via Facebook that they had a "soft open" going on this week so I just had to stop by after work and give it a go. I have visited restaurants during soft opens before. It basically gives them an opportunity to iron out the kinks before jumping in with both feet. As you might expect the interior is all newly renovated and gleaming. The decor is a familiar blend of sports bar combined with traditional Americana. It works well. I plopped down on what appeared to be a recreation of a 1970's era bar stool and looked over the menu. By the way, it would be very helpful if there was foot rails installed under the main bar. The bar has a crazy amount of craft beers available, combined with all of the typical top shelf stuff you might find at an upscale bistro or steakhouse. Despite the name, the menu is fairly diverse, but the thrust is squarely aimed at us carnivores. Burgers, steak, ribs, prime rib, etc. I hit this place up at the right time, as it was one of those days that I was chained to my desk at the office and had not had anything but a nutrigrain bar since breakfast. Despite it being a favorite of mine, I have come to expect very little from crab cakes in the midwest. The appetizer I had here elevated my expectations significantly. It was pretty damn legit. The remoulade it was served with was the perfect compliment. I scarfed those down in short order. Kudos. I also felt compelled to order a burger as an entree. I ordered the Fernandez (pictured) which is essentially Cattleman's version of a Southwest burger. It was enormous and loaded up with carne asada, pico, guac, pepper jack and tortilla strips. Oh, and the grilled whole jalapeno garnish stabbed on top was a nice touch too. I ordered it medium and it came out perfect. Absolutely delicious. I polished off the whole thing. In a perfect world I would have tried a dessert also to cover all my bases but there was just no way that was going to happen. Taylor behind the bar was serving me and she was great and obviously excited about working in a brand new place. It's hard to really judge a restaurant based on a soft open since they are typically not that busy and everyone is on their A game. However, if my visit was a rough measure of how things will operate moving forward then this place is sure to be a big hit, and I am sure to be a frequent visitor. read more

We visited on a Saturday evening and were not surprised by the 50-55 minute approximate wait for a table for such a new establishment. Thankfully, we were able to score two seats at the end of the bar after waiting a fraction of the estimated time. Truth be told, I was a little bummed that Cattleman's Burger and BREW had no draft beer options; however, at least they had a respectable variety of craft brew options, including Scorched Earth Brewing's Rugged Coal Miner and Crystal Lake Brewing's Beach Blonde and Fox Rocker. (wouldn't mind a bit if they were stocking Scorched Earth's Giant Killer on my next visit). I went with multiple cans of Anti-Hero by Revolution and my wife had a Rugged Coal Miner and a Haymarket Stout. For dinner, we split a Cattleman's BBQ Bacon Burger with fries and were not disappointed. They don't kitchen split; however, they had no issue providing an extra plate and don't foolishly charge a fee, as some do. I didn't time it, but we waited for our burger a good while, but given that the place was packed full and how new it is, it's more than forgivable. Decent beer selection, good food, great service, and cool/comfortable decor = a definite return visit. read more

I give this place a solid 3 stars with potential for a higher rating after another trip or 2 to try more items on the menu. Cattlemans just opened in downtown Algonquin where Reese's used to be. There was no why Reese's could compete with Bella's across the street so I was glad when I saw a Burger place was replacing it! The interior is updated to look like a classic bar with lots of bar seating and booths on the other side. It is very small inside so I could imagine it will be packed on a weekend. Our waiter was very nice and helpful! I asked for his suggestions and he was very knowledgeable of the menu! I love chili and look forward to finding the best of the best when it comes to chili. Their chili was good but definitely not even close to the best I've had. It lacked spiciness. I ordered a Mushroom Swiss burger and my husband ordered a Black Bean Burger (he's a vegetarian). I got fries and he got tater tots as a side so we could try both! The fries were better than the tots. Both came with coleslaw which I am also a lover of and picky about. Their coleslaw is good but very sweet. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely be back. read more

Reason for the 1 Star is the lack of customer service. My son and I waited for 5 - 10 minutes. Not one employee acknowledged us and said be with you in a minute. Understand they were fairly crowded 3 open tables. Keep in mind 2 waitresses on the floor. Waitress had to walk by us to provide a table with a juice box and didn't say a word. Very disappointing. Absolutely nothing spectacular about the food, the burgers were lackluster and the fries were not great either. The atmosphere is a bit dark in here still from its prior days of being Reese's. This bar has great salads! Some of the best salads in town, which is strange because it's really a bar first. With that said, it took a very long time to get our food, and the service was just okay. There was a musician setting up outside and our table was in the way, which was just a bit awkward. At one point she tried to move around us but was putting an extension chord over and under our table. That was a bit off putting. She definitely could've asked us to move a bit but instead just sort of started throwing the chord over us to attempt to avoid us. It was odd The drinks were great and overall staff were wearing their masks. It would've been a 4 star review if not for the lady setting up her equipment and having a less than stellar attitude.
