Tried this pace today and it was an awful experience. First I ordered the T- Bone med rare, salad, mushrooms and vegetables. When it came out is very rare, no mushrooms and they gave me beans which I didn't order. I had them take it back and instead of another one I ordered the prime rib bone in. For the second it showed up rare again no mushrooms and again beans. I gave them two times just to have a steak I like and the failed. Two hours later no steak so I gave up still hungry. The manager came over and tried to make things right but it was too late, I had enough. So I left very disappointed and hungry. I read other reviews and I agree that Black Angus is better. I ended up there and one the first time they got it right. My recommendations is go to Black Angus for a better experience. read more

Main thing of course is the steak is good, I had the prime rib, medium rare, tender and juicy. The sides were also good especially the salad and mashed potatoes. The were definitely busy that day, as they were telling people who didn't make reservations the wait 35 minutes Service was excellent, prompt and courteous so good in fact that while I usually leave 15% I left them 30% The decor wasn't snooty like a lot of steak houses and the western touches, especially the display of all the local ranches brands was cool. Don't know when we will be back as my wife is a vegetarian (she had the baked potatoe and salad) but I am glad that I came. read more

My husband adores this place. We moved up to the Bay Area from L.A. just over a year ago, and one of his first orders of business was to have dinner at Cattlemen's. Since then, we've been back more times than I can count. I've found that the food tends to be hit or miss, but I haven't gone wrong yet with the prime rib. Be sure to make reservations on weekends because the wait can be over an hour (not fun with two hungry, whiny kids). It's not a bad place for the family as it can be very LOUD--I probably wouldn't pick Cattlemen's for "date night" (that is, if you actually want to converse with your date). It's a big birthday/anniversary destination, so be prepared for the seemingly non-stop singing and yee-ha'ing of the staff. Gotta love the enormous drinks. The desserts are pretty standard and blah. I'm giving Cattlemen's three stars for lack of consistency, but it's a far better choice than Black Angus. read more

As far as casual steak places go, Cattleman's is pretty good. They are not the best steak I've ever tasted but that steak was at least twice the price somewhere else. The food is solid good, no frills and a good value. We've eaten at the restaurant many times and always had a good experience with staff. I will agree with one reviewer though that they sometimes undercook the meat. I ordered my steak medium yesterday (carryout) and by the time it got to me and I had to reheat, it was medium. I don't have any problem sending the meat back to be cooked properly but it can be a hassle. A fine, relaxing way to spend in my case a business dinner with customers who work just down the street. That said, I would be plenty comfortable taking the family here. Laid back, casual atmosphere, everything is fairly priced and staff is generally accommodating. Our waiter should've checked in more frequently and didn't seem to remember what we'd ordered, but nothing was lost in the process. Not a special occasion place, but everyone was pleased. After my last review, I was contacted by a manager about my experience and given a gift card to come back and try Cattlemens again. I gave it to my parents as they were the family members that were with us during the bad experience. This is what my Dad had to say "We went to the Cattleman's last night for dinner. We got a very nice young waitress who was excellent. Our dinners were hot and perfect. We also bought a couple bottles of cattleman's steak sauce and with the managers gift card, our bill only came to $27.00. How is that for a good deal" they were very pleased. SO happy we were able to dine here last night. There weren't a lot of customers as it was over 100 degrees outside. We ordered the dinner for two which included an appetizer, two entrees, dessert, baked beans, salad and sourdough bread. Everything tasted great l. Our server did a really good job. This was not my restaurant choice but rather my aunt who wanted to dine here for her birthday. We had a 6 pm reservation for 5. We arrived a bit early. Many, many people waiting in the lobby. No one told us when we checked in that there would be a significant delay in being seated. We had other people around us who had reservations who had been waiting an hour. They were telling people that there was a backlog in the kitchen, which was slowing everything down. Not only that but apparently they gave our table to another party, so when the hostess finally seated us she said she was very very sorry about the wait and hoped we would have a good meal. Unfortunately nothing could have been further from the truth. My mom had low blood sugar from waiting so long to eat, so when it was time to order, she actually scared me because she couldn't even form sentences to read off what she wanted. There was a long delay between the salads and our entrees-I would say at least 30 minutes. My Rustler Ribeye was supposed to come with onion strings-they weren't ready & I was told they were still being prepped in the kitchen so they brought my steak out without them but didn't say anything until I asked. Both my mom and I could barely cut through our steaks, there was so much gristle. I think I got maybe 4 bites of steak before I couldn't cut anywhere else to get a decent piece that would be chewable. My mom had basically the same issue with her Pete's Special. We both ended up asking if we could have them taken off the bill because we couldn't eat them. I let her take mine home to her dogs. The right steaks weren't taken off the bill, although they did bring my aunt a complimentary desert. Personally, I don't plan to be back EVER. I don't care if it's someone's birthday or not, if they want to come here then we can go celebrate another time because I am through. read more

This is my first visit to Cattlemens Steakhouse. I have heard good things from friends and family about this place over the years, but just never got around to it. Well the food quality is great, the customer service is absolutely stellar! I honestly have not had better customer service. The best Cattlemens I've gone to. The selection was huge, the service was super nice, the food was served fast and was delicious. All the Cattlemens are delicious, but what made this place stand out was the service. David was super polite and made sure to stop by often to refill drinks and check up on us, and the manager stopped by too just to double check if everything was OK. I had a Special 10oz sirloin, which I barely finished. My dad had a Sheriff and barely finished half of it. We also had the sampler appetizer platter, which was a feast within itself. We came away nice, full, and happy. Everything was great, even the music was cool and I'm usually not a country fan. read more

We went there yesterday and was very unimpressed!!!!!! The waitress was somewhat nice, but I asked for an extra well done steak, got a red steak. I mean which part of well done didn't they get? And the spices on the steak were too bland. The salad was wonderful, but it's just salad. And the fries were good. The steak was rare and the shrimps were slightly overcooked. We are hard pressed to do our special events anywhere else. I only have steak once a month and I always regretted going elsewhere. My steak at Cattlemen's is always cooked perfectly medium. The appetizers that we always get, the steak nachos and the beefy buffalo wings are so spicy and savory good. The staff is always great and we are often seated immediately. On busy Friday and Saturday nights I don't ever remember ever waiting more than twenty or thirty minutes. Wish I could give 3.5 stars. Pros: Large portion steak and all-you-can-eat salad (that any one can put together themselves). Like the numerous booths, and it's a large restaurant. Nice choices of beef cuts. Cons: Had one "off" waiter-- my prime rib came med instead of med rare, plus was hard to flag him down just to get him to take our drink order. Brussel sprouts side dish would be perfection if they were roasted longer. Have never had room to find out about desserts yet :( read more

Did the dinner for two, it's around 60 bucks. Not to shabby. Apps, entree and dessert. The waiter was very friendly but he was a bit sluggish on the service. Took quite a while to bring us our food. I got the rib eye which I ordered medium but it came medium rare. Had to send it back then it came back with out the onions on it. Ordered the side of mushrooms, very tiny amount. The steak was good so was the artichoke cheese dip. The fresh baked cookie with ice cream is epic. All and all I would say this place is very comparable with black angus. My family and I were so impressed with the large gluten free menu selection. Their gluten free menu is one of the largest selections I've seen locally. We were very pleased, and plan to return soon. I would have rated Cattlemen's with 5 stars, but the below customer service experience changed my mind. The service this past Saturday night was very slow. It took 20 minutes for our waitress to stop at our table, and overall our dinner took three hours from the time we sat down until we paid the bill. We were shocked and disappointed in the slow service, because this hasn't been our experience here. Also, I ordered a steak from the gluten free menu and requested no fried onions. The waitress brought me a steak with fried onions on top -- fried onions contain gluten. I explained that I couldn't eat them because it would make we sick. When the plate return to my table, I noticed the onions were scrapped off my plate, and I have to re-explain I couldn't eat it. I'm so glad I noticed this, because it would have made me very ill. read more

The 4 star is basically for our server, Pracilla. The hostess was unwelcoming. When we were taken to our booth, there were no utensils and no menu was handed out which surprised our server as well. Pracilla saved the night by being so nice about the birthday coupon, attentive and accommodating. I reminded her that it was my husband's birthday (October 21) since I was not sure the hostess relayed to her that we were celebrating, and they sang him a birthday song later. The bread was really good, same with the steak my husband and son ordered. My calamari was very good. My husband was already thinking earlier that we might not be back to this place because of the first few minutes in the restaurant. ( I though the birthday board would put my husband's name on it, but I guess that was just a decor). But thanks to Pracilla who attended to us the whole evening with such enthusiasm , not forgetting to check on us and refilled drinks. I would suggest Management to do a refresher course on your frontliners especially the hostesses. A smile and eye contact goes a long way, ladies! if your job is to put utensils on the table, do it well. They had not set up tables yet We were seated at a small booth barely large enough for four and we were five. Got re-seated Ordered 3 rib eyes. Not marbled as it should be, but fatty. This wasn't our 1st time having dinner at cattleman's, but this definitely will be our last period from the time that we were seated we received horrible service. Our main server Joanna was slow, was unable to take orders properly we received the wrong steak,we never got all of our food and it took about 45 minutes to an hour after our order was taken to even receive our food and When we got it it was cold . We thought that when Jennifer the manager came to help us that things would turn around but once again my sister's food came out wrong . We came there because my dad light the prime rib the last time that we were there and we were celebrating his 80th birthday, I felt badd that his day was ruined by this horrible meal he was really looking forward to it. We went to the Cattlemens restaurant Livermore on n Friday night for a banquet dinner for less than 35 people. The service was very slow , and no one was asked how we would like our steaks prepared, but that didn't matter because everyone's steaks came out extremely rare. We were all served at different times some waiting from 40 minutes to over an hour. I personally will never return. It was over priced and definitely not worth it. There are a lot of fabulous steak restaurant in Dublin, Pleasanton and San Ramon to choose from that provide great food and service at a reasonable price. Cattlemens is old and tired. read more

Their Ribeye steaks are cooked perfectly to order. I like that very much. My son can order a rare steak and I can have my med rare. The service was very cheery and attentive. The only downside is the amount of salt that is used with all of their sauces, and side dishes. I ordered whisky peppercorn sauce as a complement to my ribeye, and after one taste I had to forgo it. It was like eating a spoonful of salt. The twice cooked potatoes also had too much salt. I left it on the plate: doesn't the chef test taste what they are cooking? We walked in and there was a sign in front with our names on it ( I'm a twin), wishing us happy birthday. We ordered almost everything on the menu. We ordered Fried onion appetizers, soups, salad, tbones, tri tip, ribs, ny steak, fillet minon & I ordered a steak n lobster. This is a followup review after speaking with Miranda via email. After our previous dining experience, Cattlemen's invited us back with a voucher for our next meal. We arrived for a 4pm reservation on May 2nd. We were promptly greeted and seated. Our server was Tailor who was excellent. Within a few minutes drinks were served and our food order was taken, shortly after salad was brought out. Before our meal arrived, Ken the new GM came by our table to apologize for our previous experience and was glad that we came and gave them another chance. Shortly later our meal's came out. I had the 10oz filet medium rare, with crab legs, and the wife had the 6oz fillet, also medium rare. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We then ordered a Pete's Pan Cookie for dessert. While waiting for our dessert, Ken came by again and told us to keep the certificate he gave us for our next meal, and that he was picking up the tab for our dinner. This was completely unexpected and very much appreciated. Shortly after, our dessert came out, which was delicious. Just the right size to share between two people. All in all, this was the sort of service we expected and have received before at Cattlemens. Hopefully our previous experience was just an anomaly as we do enjoy coming here for dinner. read more

15 years loving the steak at Cattlemens, but probably never again. Would have been 5-stars, minus one very horrible experience and terrible service response from the manager. Thanksgiving 2014, having a typical family dinner 6 adults, 6 kids. We all ordered our typical steaks -- for me, the Cowboy Rib Eye which is usually mouth watering delicious. As usual, we get our bowl of salad to mix and share, and as we're enjoying, my brother-in-law spits something beige out of his mouth. Yup, it's what looks like a bloody bandaid. And yup, he was chewing it! The manager says, "ok, but why don't you call us next week?" Stall tactic. We've still never heard back from them, and don't really want to think about this more. At this point, everyone is staring in disgust at our food having eaten a salad that was mixed with a used bandaid. I ask the manager to clear all of our salads. Apparently, he's too good to do manual work because he stands there trying to call over a bus boy, then orders him to clear the salad while he walks away casually and talks to other tables.... all the while we still have salads on our table. We would have left by now, but our kids were starving and eating cooked food sounds better than a melt-down. The rest of the meal went ok. One of the steaks was severely overcooked -- just a bad experience which happens once in a while, but after this experience and mostly because of the way Cattlemen's reacted to this and didn't seem to care, I don't think I can stomach to go back. p.s. This is not a Michelin 3 star restaurant, but it is ideal for our family dinners once a month. We always get reservations without problem, we never wait long when we show up, the service is pleasant and timely, the quality of the food is exactly what they promise and the family atmosphere is perfect for those of us with young kids. The steak dishes can be bit inconsistent (in size, cut, cookness, flavor), but I expect some fluctuation with meat. We purchased Cattlemen's shirts last year for our kids which gives them free sirloin dinners with the purchase of each adult meal - this actually reduces the bill by around $20 each visit. If you're expecting perfection, this may not be your place, but if you're looking for a good steak/prime rib/rib/sirloin/etc dinner for a good value and family environment (this doesn't mean screaming kids running through the isles), this is a great place. Recommendation: I'd always advise getting a side of au jus sauce with any cut of meat you request. Also order red meat if you come here, if you want vegetarian, or fish, maybe choose something else. read more

I recommend making a reservation if you plan to come. Without a reservation, the hostess will treat you like a you are invisible. I would give the hostess 0 stars. This pace is so racist and unprofessional!!!!I went to this place for the very first time with my family visiting from out of town. My very first impression from them was like they saw a brown woman walking in for the first time.. we got such unwelcome treatment from the time we stepped in... I wanted to leave but again I had hungry out of town Eta., I had to actually go outside to take a breath of air before entering again in this shithole. The bar attender was so rude and racist !!!I order a afew drinks for me and my guest.. she took the we ordered our drinks snd she felt like I am bothering her from serving us. she took our order and then turns her back on us while we are waiting for our order and started texting or counting her tips. I had to ask her twice to see what the heck was going on!!!!I. The vibe there is so racist .. than 3 whites people walked in after us they got served with a smile and she still ignored our order and start to serve them immediately... I had families visiting us out of town so I had no choice but eat there which I will never ever go back there again unless i have a white skin. The drinks were finally made after the white people were served first of course... that had old dried up garnish or no garnish at all.. we than waiting 45 mins to be seated I looked around saw lots empty seats empty at the back. Finally we got seated in .. I ordered my drink finally and that took a long time to get to the table.. food was over priced, over cooked and burnt with no taste and served cold... wtf!! Is this what you get for pay $34!!! Come on!!! I came home and threw up after eating the disgusting food . This place is so racist, unprofessional the manager really sucks big time!!
