I have to say the two visits I came here with my family was very pleasant and welcoming. Both times we came here we had the same server! Tara is amazing. Oh my gosh, we have found our new spot. This is definitely our new favorite steakhouse, and for good reason. Endless unlimited salad (I know of knowother steakhouse that does this) to go with your entrées, enormous portions, a fun yee-haw aesthetic, and extremely friendly staff. I've been coming here for almost twenty years , I was a big fan . The last three or four visits have been less than satisfactory. Numerous times the food has come out way under cooked or stone cold . In the last visit three streaks had to go back because they were raw and a baked patato was stone cold . Their tumbleweed onion has come out with uncooked batter on it th last five visits , we have to always ask to have it cooked well done. I hope this place doesn't continue to go down hill . read more

I am updating my post once again. We have been back 2 times now and both times the manager Ashley has taken care of us 100 percent. The first time back we had a little problem with the cheese moons and Ashley took care of them right away and when they came back out they where perfect. My husband's birthday was on a weekday, so I took him out on the weekend for a nice dinner. Though we live in Oakland, he decided he wanted Cattlemans, so we drove to Livermore. Sadly we didn't make reservations, on a Saturday, during Christmas party season, and there were several large office/company party groups, plus holiday shoppers and many birthday celebrants, so we had to wait almost 2 hours, in hard chairs, next to the server's station. After waiting for quite a while one of the servers, Vera, came over and said she noticed we had been waiting for what seemed like a really long time, and if she could bring us anything, and chatted a little apologizing for the long wait. Very nice. She and another server checked back later, and offered us a table in the bar, but we declined, and were eventually seated in a booth. Vera happened by on her way to the kitchen and said "Yay you are at a table finally! I'm so glad, I feel bad you had to wait so long." Our server, Nicole, was super friendly, with a bubbly personality. We had already thoroughly perused the menu while waiting, and were very hungry, so ordered right away. Husband had Sirloin Steak and Lobster with a loaded baked potato, and I had the 6 oz Filet Mignon with a baked sweet potato topped with pecan butter. We shared a Mushrooms stuffed with cheese and sourdough bread appetizer, and the endless salad, which was very good. Everything was cooked properly and very flavorful. The warm sourdough bread that comes with the meal could be dangerous because you just want to keep eating it. Nicole made great suggestions about the food, and was attentive without being intrusive. We were both pretty full, but Nicole raved about the deep fried Apple pie so much we had to try it. Nicole was right, it was very good, and looked like a big Apple turnover with 2 scoops of Vanilla ice cream, and sprinkled with cinnamon. She brought 2 spoons and we scarfed it down with no problem! Food, and service was great. Price was very reasonable, not cheap, but felt it was fair for the quality and portions received. We will visit that location again, and will try to convince husband's office to have their Christmas party there next year! 1 star off because parking was challenging in the small shared parking lot, the bathrooms were pretty trashed, lots of dirty cloth napkins laying on the floor in the bar area, and insufficient waiting area for the amount of people waiting for tables. read more

Cattleman's has been one of my favorite places since I was a kid. I've always loved the atmosphere, great service and great food in grand portions! I had not been in quite some time and before flying out the next day I stopped in for a nice dinner. I ordered the prime rib which is always excellent and cooked perfectly, never been disappointed by the food! I must say my server, Ashley, was very attentive to anything I needed. She hustled and does everything with a smile, she was very nice and professional even for how busy she was giving every table the same great personality. You don't always see people hustling and giving it there all, that girl can work. Hope to get her the next time I visit that California location! read more

Came here with my husband and cousin, We had a 35 minute so we waited at the "saloon" and a table opened in the "saloon", so we sat ourselves. My first mistake was trying to make small talk with waiter and calling him a "busser" (someone who cleans tables). He cleaned our table and did not bring us back menus. Luckily they had a "Happy Hour" menu at the table, so my husband and i decided to order the Chicken wings and the Potato skins $3 each. Once our order was in we ordered my cousin another drink, that took a long time to come even though we were sitting directly across from the bar. Our waiter A**** finally returned after 15 minutes and took our drink orders and meal order. I ordered a sandwich from the "saloon" menu, my husband ordered the Dakota chicken and my cousin ordered the salmon with double veggies. It seemed like 10 minutes until we got our drinks (2 blue moons & a Jameson, cranberry, pineapple) The meals my husband and cousin ordered came with a very small salad that they had to share. Our waiter brought out 3 plates so i decided to join in on the salad, when our waiter returned with the appetizers and saw that i had joined in on the salad, the waiter said that he/she wouldn't charge me an extra salad! W*f! Then the waiter shouldn't have brought out an extra plate, i did not know i couldn't join in. Once i seen the $3 appetizers, i then knew why they were $3. There were two potato peels and four chicken wings! Disappointing! We had LOTS of time to finish off our appetizers and drinks. Until our meals arrived, the Dakota chicken was smaller than the chicken breast fillets Costco sells! The salmon was nothing special, the "double veggies" looked like a regular order and my sandwich was the only decent order. Our bill came out to $77 and some change. There was a time when my Husband and I were eating here once a week. We love the cozy booths they have so its more private for us. But sometimes it can be loud depending on what time you go, there can be a lot of kids. We love the food it's always consistent. Love the bread and salad that you get before your meal comes out. Stopped in for a quick meal at the bar after work. The food was good and they had a good Happy Hour.. I ordered 2 Lamb Lollipop appetizers because the first had such great flavor and found that they varied in size in a BIG way, one trio was tiny, the other big and juicy, even the bartender noticed. The main reason the issue with the food didn't bother me so much was due to the amazing and friendly bartender, Rebecca. It's just so hard to find good, let alone, great service anymore. Very rarely do I see someone who just "gets it!" She was super busy, covering a large bar by herself and she completely nailed it. When she was at the other side of the bar helping people down there, I could see her eyes constantly shifting back and forth to make sure she had everything covered, she hustled back and forth with a sense of urgency, helping every guest with a huge smile and warm attitude (and filling drinks at the service bar too) in a timely manner Nobody that I could see, had to wait even a second for what they needed. Sadly disappointed. Had not been here for years. Salad had spoiled, slimey cucumbers. Blue cheese dressing "stretched" with mayonnaise. Prime rib was so tough it was chewy and hard to cut. I made reservations for my husbands 40th birthday about a week before. So the day of I took my mother, husband and my 3 teenagers. We walked in and we were so surprised and happy to see the big Happy Birthday sign with my husbands name on it. So we were seated and greeted by our waitress about 10 min later. She took our drink orders, soda and water and that took about 15 min to get. Then a few minutes later she said she would bring some bread and butter. Finally that came and we asked if we could order. 2 of my teenagers wanted burgers and we were told they had no ground beef left. So they ordered Caesar Salads, they were a bit upset. I ordered fire grilled artichokes as an appetizer and my husband and mother ordered a steak and my son a filet mignon. When the artichoke came it was so rough and hard we could not pull the leaves off so we sent it back. Ended not coming back til after we got our main dish. My husbands steak looked so raw and full of fat. He just ate a piece of it. My mother's was so pink almost pale looking so we sent it back and they cooked it more and it became tough. Then my poor son's Filet Mignon was so tough and black. We are not complainers but I had to say something. We waited and waited between getting water, meal, silverware and no one ever cleared our table. Then last they forgot to sing Happy Birthday to my husband. So I had to remind them. We got our bill and she took off the $5 artichokes. I felt so bad for my husband. That's the one place he wanted to go for his birthday. The place was not even busy! read more

We are regulars at Cattlemens in Livermore. We probably eat here 3-4 times each month. Every time we go we ask for Stacy. Stacy provides 5 star service every time. We decided to have dinner at the bar. When we sat down, the barback didn't even bother to clean off the bar before taking our drink orders. We asked to have the bar wiped down. We ordered appetizers before dinner. However, we didn't receive one of the appetizers until after our dinner was delivered. I ordered a sirloin steak and asked for it to be prepared "medium". It was so well done, I could not cut it with my steak knife. We had to send it back and it took forever, so we had to pack it up to go. The service at the bar was just so-so. It seemed the bartenders were more interested in gossiping with each other than taking care of the guests in the bar area. Very disappointed. Even with a confirmed reservation, our seating was a 30 minute extra wait. Ok, it's Saturday at 5 pm.....forgiven. Ordered a taco strip steak appetizer, a side of corn, and a sirloin with baked potato. Salad arrives fine. Then a 35 min wait for app and main course. Taco app was cold an unappetizing....sent back to be warmed. A sirloin ordered med. rare.....arrived well done. (Dried out over cooked) They offered a new one....but we were not going t wait another 35 min. Can't figure out why the heck the place is packed...worst experience yet in a restrauant for dinner! Lots of folks in pickup trucks wh must totally be onto eating quantity, as there is no quality to be found. I always go to cattlemen for steak. but it is getting worse of the worse in service quality and today they topped it off with bad service and food. they typically mess up the order and delay but good steak make up for it. today was special. it was my birthday and I went to have a stake and I drove from Oakland all the way to Livermore. I asked for filet Mignon MEDIUM cooked and I said no bean with creamy horseradish. I order it to begin with and I said no drinks no appetizer. food did not show up until 1 hour 10 minutes later. Steak was over cooked and looked like rubber, no garlic mash potato as I asked and they brought beans as I emphasized no beans. I had it enough today. I said, I pay for salad and bread and leave. reading other peoples review ... it makes sense. how hard it it to take this order: No drinks no appetizer filet Mignon medium, garlic mash potatoes, creamy horseradish and no beans and after 1 hour and 10 minutes you get apiece of rubber.it looked worse than what I cook at home. This place makes me overeat all the time. They give you fresh baked bread and the soft churned butter to pair with the multi-ingredient salad with a gravy boat of salad dressing of your choice. Their steaks come out great every time and their sides are usually good too. I love their grilled artichoke appetizer and I just had their bacon wrapped shrimp last night which was mouth-watering. I usually get a steak and loaded baked potato which fills me beyond "stuffed." I tried their new deep fried apple pie and the crust is perfect with the vanilla bean ice cream. Went to have dinner to celebrate my cousins birthday. I ordered a rib eye (medium) with loaded mashed potatoes. I received a New York (medium well). When I advised the server of the error. She took the steak back to the kitchen and returned with it stating I checked with the manager and he said was a rib eye. I told her I only eat rib eye and I'm sure this wasn't it. Manager comes to table and says I can keep the wrong steak while they make me a new one. I declined because as previously stated I ordered a rib eye and that's what I want. Server took my plate after asking if I wanted to keep the potatoes. Odd but ok, at least I had something to snack on while I waited for them to make a new steak. After about 5 minutes the manager returned stating for a medium well steak it should be a 17 minute cook time. I reminded him I ordered a medium and he stated he would advise the kitchen. After waiting about 20 minutes (or at least until the rest if my party completed their meals) she returned with my plate. She stood there to make sure it was what I ordered and said that she would check with the manager to see if there was anything he could do because of the error..ok fine.No biggie, not looking for a free meal, just looking for what I ordered. My new plate came with regular mashed potatoes and not loaded like I ordered. My loaded mash was previously scraped off my plate while I waited for the new steak and were cold at this point. Oh well at least I got my steak. I didn't finish my food just asked for a box and check. Received check and did not receive any comp for the error and was charged for the cheese and bacon for the loaded mash that sat at the table while we waited for them to correct the error. To add insult to injury, we were also charged for veggies that my cousin ordered and never received. Horrible customer service. I recommended this place for our dinner this evening because I really wanted a rib eye. I regret every second of it now. Left frustrated and hungry. read more

8/1/19 I Was invited here by some friends for a goodbye dinner. We had two small children age 1 and 3. We sat down at 530, ordered by 545 and had an hour wait for our food. After our children were screaming because they were hungry I went to a manager who came back and said our food was coming right out. When the food came out the waitress then said that some of the dishes were cold and they were going to reheat them and took them back. We had two kids meals , Mac n cheese and a kids burger and fries, one appetizer of wings and a burger that came without a bun (not intentionally I wanted the bun).... The food came back luke warm and stale. I'm not sure if we should blame the cooks or the waitress but it was not worth the $60 dollars I paid. read more
