Normally, I love Cattleman's. My husband and brother and I went for our birthday dinner. The place was getting busy and we ordered our dinner. The waiter was great, but when we received our food, we were a bit disappointed. Both my husband and I ordered the ribs and my brother ordered the T-bone steak. He loved his. But my ribs were more fat than meat and my husband's was dry. The baked potatoes were not hot at all. I have no problem with the wait staff, but the food was not the greatest. read more

We had dinner at Cattlemen last night and, while the ambiance and service were lovely, my entree unfortunately missed the mark. I ordered the New York steak strip and my wife had her 9oz prime rib (we ordered the dinner special dinner for two), which was beautifully presented and very tender. However, the seasoning was heavily overdone. The meat was so salty that it overpowered all the other flavors of the dish, making it difficult to finish. I hope the kitchen considers adjusting its hand with the salt shaker, as the quality of the meat itself was excellent. Everyone was great and the place looks beautiful just like the first time we visited 8 years ago, both times it was just too salty. Yes I should've told the waiters, but in hopes they see this post they'll take it in consideration. But if you're into salty meats then this place is for you. We have been dining at Cattlemans since the 1970's. We ordered the Tuesday special sirloin steak meals. The salad bowl was light on lettuce and it was barely enough for the 2 of us. The thousand island dressing was not thick as usual, it was thin and runny. The steaks arrived with butter on the top. The butter never melted because the steaks were cold. They were also over cooked, and very well done, which makes these low quality steaks very chewy. The potatoes were also cold, and the butter did not melt. The bread and beans were fine. The service was good. We have had so many poor meals at Cattlemans, that we decided not to complain on this visit, and instead to never return. read more

Ordered my food online was told to pick it up at a certain time I came in the hostess didn't greet me so I asked about my order and told him my name and told him what time the food would be ready( Jacob) he didn't make eye contact with me and just told me yeah I'll check on that and he literally did nothing after that. So I sat down and waited. Five minutes, went by, and I went back and asked (Jacob) the status of my meal and he said oh let me check on that for the second time. He then walked away, and I asked another hostess if she could check on the status of my order and to let Jacob know that he needs additional training when it comes to interacting with customers the processes they ask a question can you give a response to let them know the status of their order communication is key in customer service. The medium well steak is medium, the baked potato is inconsistently cooked, the beans are room temperature, and the salad has some leaves turning brown in it. I'd have sent some of this food back but the waiter never returned after placing the order. It is the kitchens job to ensure the food is prepared properly and they failed but the server should have checked it before bringing it to the table. The medium steak tasted okay but nobody refilled my cup so it went down dry. I've had better food at a Texas Roadhouse and better service at a McDonald's. read more

I make it a point to visit this restaurant every time we go over the hill from Reno. We used to have one in Carson City, but we are now forced to go to Roseville as often as we can. This restaurant has the best meat I have ever had just about anywhere in the United States. They have several restaurants in their chain, and I have been to them all. Their salad is always fresh. Cattlemen's is my favorite restaurant and I have been coming to Cattlemen's since 1974. Wednesday February 11th we were celebrating a special occasion and our server Blaine fell short.. Real short. He seemed real put out by doing his job. Drinks were empty and had to ask numerous times for refills. Didn't clear dishes from our appetizers even as we stacked the dishes and put everything at edge of table. Had to ask him to take some away.Had to wait a long long time for butter, Coke Cola. Yes, The restaurant was busy but the prices were the normal price for inadequate service. Bad Service can make or break your dining experience. Asked for to go boxes (with a bag) Said I will be right back in a few minutes. He came back but forgot said he will be right back with the bags. Came back again, No bags. Finally got them. We won't sit in Blaine's section again. Someone in party got the end cut of a ribeye which she didn't want. The end cut i always thought was a no.no in restaurants unless someone specifically says I would like the end cut if possible. A lot of restaurants dont serve that cut (they use that for something else. That was weird. Where are the big salad bowls? Got a small salad bowl for 6 people which had to ask for more salad twice. Won't be sitting in Blaine's section again. Service has a lot to do with how your dining experience is. Blaine might need a Restaurant Hospitality course. read more

The service was great and wait wasn't that long on a Monday night. I sat in a booth and the lamp was bright which makes the red meat look brighter red. The sourdough bread was fresh and amazing with butter. The Salad though simple, but fresh and tasty. The ambiance and decor has a rustic look with old memorabilia. I ordered the Prime rib - "Cattleman's" cut on 10-28-24 at around 7PM. Medium Rare. It comes out looking purple, then there's a hot metal plate the server trickles some juice on and it sizzles slightly then the slab of prime rib gets placed onto the hot plate and sizzles maybe a tiny bit. The resulting prime rib was almost inedible how chewy it was. The spinalis part was even chewy and the outer seasoned skin was inedible. I had to chew it like gum until a ball of silver skin like material would be small enough to swallow. There were about 5 bites I'm pretty sure Gordon Ramsay would have blurted out a curse word and sent it back to the kitchen. Seeing as how I've always loved prime rib since I was a young meat eater, this experience had me questioning whether or not I should take a break from prime rib... I think it might have had to do with it being close to being raw. Now rewind time when I've been here before and ordered a ribeye and it was fantastic. It's just the Prime Rib experience needs some improvement. The raw horseradish was incredibly potent and nasal clearing, it also came with some tasty aus jous and creamy horse radish. The Garlic fries came out not very crispy, almost suspect that it was baked french fries and it might have waited a bit before being served as it was not hot. The thing is I've purchased Harris ranch beef before and have encountered similar "chewy" cuts of meat so it didn't really come as a Suprise if the prime rib did come from Harris Ranch plus it could have been undercooked with the intramuscular fat and tissue not rendered. I do have to compliment the attentive service, and I also disclaim that I did not have an upset stomach the day after. But for $39.99, i'm not expecting "steakhouse" prime rib, but at least give me something I'm not leaving chewed up connective tissue all over the plate. I used the included serrated steak knife to try and cut smaller pieces of prime rib but it required lots of tearing and pulling. On a good note, the small little kettle of smoked beans was tasty and perfectly seasoned so I gobbled that up. read more

I have been going to Cattlemen's for over 25 years. My son wanted to celebrate his belated birthday at Cattlemens. We got there Sunday 12/28 at 4:30pm and there was a 30 wait. We decided to take a risk and eat in the bar. We were approached by our server and given menus after I asked for them. We have eaten here some many times we all knew what we were going to have , PETE's special, 2 medium rare, (1) medium, (1) well done. After 45 mins , I stopped a busboy to check on our food, after another 10 mins, they finally came out, as a ex restaurant owner and employee, I could tell the meals had been sitting under the heat lamps on the line, mash potatoes were stiff , burnt and the juice from the steaks were burnt onto the plates, The mediums rare steak were now medium , medium steak was now medium well, 3 of the 4 steaks were so tough , you couldn't cut them, I found a manager and asked him to stop by the table to see the food quality. He agreed they were unacceptable and offer to re-cook anybody's steak, we sent back the (2) med rare steaks, 30 mins later, I stopped the busboy again to find the manager to check on the steaks for us. By this time we were tired,, it had been 2 hrs since we sat down and just wanted to go home. We had them box them up, the manager stated he would COMP the 2 steaks, When the bill arrived, he hadn't COMP the steaks, so politely , I stopped him again to review what he had told us earlier, he said I misunderstood him, he COMP the extra steaks he put in as replacements. I had to laugh and he said he would see what he could do. He ended up taking (1) $8 cocktail off and $10 off our $200+ bill. I was quite disappointed on December 8th when I ordered a bone on rib eye steak, which of course is more expensive than a boneless rib eye. I feel like everyone has seen this restaurant sign driving on the freeway . I saw some people on Yelp post about the happy hour and my husband's co workers like this place so we decided to give it a try . This building pretty much stands alone there is noting near it . Walking in it feels and it looks very old school . The hostess was really nice she let me know the Saloon area was all open seating which let me say it's a big area with a lot of seating to choose from . They have a very sweet Happy Hour from 4pm-10pm Monday-Friday - only in the Saloon area . So pretty much the Happy Hour is all day since during the week they are open from 4-10 . The Happy Hour is amazing with $6 dollar drinks $8 to $10 for appetizers. They have a nice kids menu as well . Just make sure when u order things off the Happy Hour menu to let them know it's from the Happy Hour Menu or else they will bring the bigger normal size . I wish the waiter would promote the happy hour more since it's such a good deal, but he didn't . I was disappointed because we really wanted to try the prime rib French Dip but they were all out of Prime Rib for the night he said it was as already later throughout the night. I told my husband they are only open for 4-10 how are they out of prime rib already ??!! We were bummed ! That means we couldn't try the prime rib tacos either. I also asked for a bowl of chili which he was also out of. So they were out of two things we wanted. We ordered a hamburger with some garlic fries, happy hour potato wedges, and the Beef Kabob . The burger needed more flavor the bun was very dry . The garlic fries were to much the garlic was massive and the Beef Kabob I did not like the chewing meat I did not finish it . I was not impressed with the food at all . It reminds me of a chilis but chilis is better. The food just doesn't taste fresh or flavorful. We also got dessert which even the dessert was dry. At the end of the night our bill came we got double charged for some things but our waiter corrected everything, and gave us correct check . Overall this place has a great happy hour. You get a lot for your money. With a regular menu entree you get a large salad to share. They also give you bread and butter at your table.
