We are staying in the hotel affiliated with the restaurant. Our food (dinner and a breakfast) were really not good. Our food arrived cold. Items in the order were missing. The staff person was very put out when we asked food to be replaced. They jacked up their prices during the pandemic. All in all, we are not coming back to the hotel or the restaurant. read more

Food selection seems pretty varied however, the items we ordered were extra bland.we ordered breakfast. The ham and cheese omelette and bacon and eggs. Another day we ordered room service coffee and toast. Coffee not good tastes bitter and like dirty tap water used. The service and location of this restaurant are good, however the food is terrible. I ordered Diablo Seafood mix which claimed on the menu to have a marinara sauce and fresh cherry tomatoes. Instead it came in this hideous creamy pink sauce. Totally misrepresented on the menu. My husband ordered a piece of halibut. It came smothered in tartar sauce which ruined the fresh flavor even after he scraped it off. The halibut was $36, a complete rip-off, and my pasta was $29. I don't mind paying high prices for authentically good food, but I don't like being deceived by an alluring menu item that shows up in a completely different form that how it's described. I will never return. We discussed this with the supervisor but I don't think she really cared. read more

I noticed there weren't very many customers And now I figure it's because locals know it's no good. I went in about 9 AM and ordered coffee and some breakfast. After the coffee arrived at the table, a full 45 minutes passed and I finally had to go to the kitchen to find someone who recalled that I had ordered anything else. No one else was in the restaurant and the staff were leaning against counters in the kitchen talking about their tips. Eventually I got my breakfast entrée and in the meantime I had not even been offered fresh coffee. Also, music was on so loud that you couldn't hear the nearby waves. All meals are take out. However, I've never had soggy cole slaw made with lettuce anywhere. The turkey and gravy were okay, but there were bones in the gravy and the turkey breast was just okay. The garlic bread tasted okay, just a little soggy. And the prices did not reflect the quality. Since it was cafeteria food, the prices were more than double what I should have paid. read more

After reading other reviews I wondered if I was at the same restaurant. We stopped in for dinner after a sunset walk on the beach. The first impression was that we were going to have to wait to be seated but were surprisingly seated immediately even though the restaurant was full of customers. Public areas were clean, restroom spotless. Wait staff in clean professional dress. Service was fast for as many customers as were seated. Salad arrived cold & crisp as it should be. Dinner rolls and butter was provided. Water glasses were always full. We ordered pasta. I ordered spaghetti with meatballs. The spaghetti arrived hot ( temp ) along with garlic toast the meat balls were very good and had a little different spice taste than I had tasted before, but very good. A nice meal in a great atmosphere. Watching the dining room staff was entertaining itself. They moved at lightening speed and appeared to all be working as a team. They never stopped moving! A pleasant dining experience and this a recommended stop when in the area. Price was reasonable. read more

We stayed at the San Simeon Lodge across the street and decided to skip across the highway to give this restaurant a try. I ordered the BLTA with sweet potato fries. Several other tables received their order before I received mine The bread was overly crispy and bacon was nearly burnt, very dry, and hard to chew. It was served with steak fries, not the sweet potato fries I ordered. I was reluctant to return my food because it took so long to receive it the first time. After a few bites , I gave up. Quite disappointing. Now I will looking for somewhere else yo eat for the remainder of my trip. read more

Food was just fine, especially considering you're in a very small town. We opted for pasta dishes because it's really hard to mess that up. Both dishes came with two big slices of garlic bread and it was delicious. One of us had the chicken Parm, the other spaghetti. The chicken parm was really excellent. It had great texture and taste, it was crisp but not overly so. The portion was great. The sauce was also very good. Very enjoyable plate. The spaghetti was pretty okay. We chose to add meatballs which I would definitely skip next round. They tasted frozen and probably were. They just were not that good. But the pasta, sauce and bread where great. Don't come to a place like this, order steak and then be upset that it's not an aged, prime cut and cooked to perfection. If you do that, the problem is yours and not the restaurants. Know your surroundings. The service here was also good and we appreciate they are open until a decent hour. We did attempt to visit a few other places that said they were open but when we arrive the places were dark. Everywhere here closed around 8. These guys are open until 9:30. read more

During our recent visits to the Cambria and San Simeon area, we happened upon this restaurant actually quite be accident. BUT, since I ate there twice in a 4 day period, I'd say that it was a positive accident and a nice change from the downtown Cambria dining scene. I enjoyed eating outdoors under the tent which had that open-air feeling, even though it did face the 1 which can be a rather busy road at times. I found the service to be prompt and friendly. The food (I had dinner) was really quite good. I had one of the specials at the time (BBQ Burger - it's much more than simply a BBQ burger by the way) which I thought was outstanding. Caesar Salad was solid as well. Their menu extends far beyond burgers, but that is what I happened to have so it's all I can comment on. The shrimp and grits looked good though. Wine list could perhaps be improved considering all the great choices in the vicinity, but it was OK as is. I'd go again next time I'm in the area. Oh and the hotel was in a nice location as well with direct access to the ocean only steps away. read more

This could be a very nice restaurant, but the food is terrible & extremely bland. I got the pacific halibut. It looked great when it was set down in front of me, but it had no flavor whatsoever. The "sauce" on the fish was just a dollop of tartar sauce. The only good thing about this experience was the server. She was very friendly and efficient. read more

Four of us sowed up for our reservation and it was not ready. Waited. Finally seated, but they dropped their regular menu and the Christmas menu was too pricey for what we were ready to pay. We picked this place because of their regular menu looked good and reasonably priced. We have been returning to the Cavalier Restaurant several times in the last year. Clean, comfortable and very good customer service. Our waitress was Gretchen and she was attentive to detail on made our experience very pleasant. I had chicken Marsala, tender and deliciouswild rice and mixed vegetables. My wife enjoyed a wonderful mixed salad with fresh salmon. Great views and chill afternoon with wine and a stroll. I also know that if clam chowder is your thing, then you have to get some. This place is a solid 3 stars. The food tastes just ok, it may even be called pretty bland, but their prices are decent and the portions are huge. I had the salmon burger for dinner for $15. It comes with a very large piece of salmon, albeit it didn't have much flavor or seasoning. However, in a burger with some onions and tomatoes, it was perfectly edible and what you'd expect in a restaurant like this. The fries were pretty soggy but with ranch dressing, they were fine. Overall, for the portion size and the price, probably can't really complain. Then for breakfast, I had the corn beef hash. Again, it wasn't all that special, but the portion was huge and it was $13 for 2 eggs, corn beef hash, hash browns, and an English muffin, so not too bad. If you drench the food in tabasco sauce, it's tastes alright and takes away the blandness. The service during breakfast time (9-10am) on a weekend is incredibly slow. read more

For having a restaurant right at the ocean we expected to have great seafood dishes with plenty to choose from. Nope. They had less than a handful of actual seafood options and a fishstick tv dinner tastes better than this place. The calamari was rubber, the fried shrimp was burnt and the clam chowder tasted like a tainted canned soup mixed with a bottle of clam juice. The only pro I can note is the ocean sunset view and our server was pleasant. P.s. Do NOT attempt to try the house wine pay the extra dollar and get the other stuff. read more

I ordered a New York steak sandwich without the bread. It had bread underneath the steak when I received it so I had to send it back. Then as I ate the steak, which was covered with cheese and grill veggies, I had a difficult time cutting it so I scraped off the toppings. The "New York" steak was very gristly. It was hard to cut the meat from the gristle. The flavor of the toppings and the sides were good but the quality of the meat was horrible. read more

Well let me start off with the staff they were very kind and anything we needed they would get. The food wasn't the best! I got clam chowder and it had a funny taste to it. My husband got hot wings and chicken strips the hot wings were pretty good and the chickens strips were watery inside and didn't taste good. This review isn't about the restaurant but the banquet room. I was responsible for a luncheon for 65 people. The room was beautifully decorated with white tablecloths and napkins. The setting is gorgeous with ocean views and we had private bathrooms. The food was delicious and plentiful and the catering staff were very attentive and professional. Everyone who attended was happy with the event. Jeanne Haegele, director of sales and marketing, and Ken, the catering manager, were especially helpful in making sure all the details were covered.
