This was the first place I went after landing on the island. We had a car, and although we stayed in Opd San Juan it was easy to get to Cayo Blanco in Cordoba. We enjoyed libations, the whole red snapper, an assortment of tapas and desert. The bill was "up there" but the quality of food made it worth it. The best part of Cayo Blanco were the people. The only reason my review is 5 stars is because the scale doesn't go any higher. What a dining experience! We got to the restaurant a bit early for our reservation but they seated us right away. Classy, intimate, delicious. We loved it! If you are looking for a place to splurge on a nice meal, this is a good place to do it. Cayo Blanco is conveniently located in the Condado neighborhood. Since there are a lot of tourists here, it can be hard to find a restaurant that is not just a tourist trap. Cayo Blanco was recommended to us by the hotel staff and we were able to easily book a reservation online. (This is a COVID review, so when we went I'm pretty sure reservations were required). Cayo Blanco offers the kind of restaurant experience that is hard to find these days. The restaurant is small and intimate, like you're in on a cozy little secret. It would make for a romantic date night. The waiters are absolute professionals who know the menu and want you to enjoy your meal. We ordered the scallops, empanadas, crab cakes, paella, and snapper. We enjoyed the food, the warm personality of our waiter, and the atmosphere of the restaurant. It is pricey, but like I said this was our one splurge. My one critique is that both the paella and the snapper were a bit dry and overcooked. However, I found the seafood in San Juan as a whole to be over-cooked, so I don't hold that against the restaurant because that was my general experience in the city. The sauce that comes with the empanadas was DELICIOUS. Even if you don't get the empanadas, get a side of that sauce to dip other things in! My wife and I sat at the bar and we where so glad we did.The bar tender was absolutely wonderful and gave us some recommendations on his favorite dishes.We had the pulpo(octopus)salad & then we both went with mofongos for the entree she had hers with more pulpo and I had mines with mahi mahi and I just have to say we can't wait to go back here when we come visit again. It's some of the best mofongo I've ever had in my life. I was afraid the fish wouldn't be tasty because of how "white" it looked but boy was I wrong it drove my taste buds wild! I also had a blue drink (can't remember the name) but it was awesome!!! The food and service was very good. Our kids also enjoyed what they ordered. The ambiance was nice, but if you didn't sit by the window you might feel a little tight. I would recommend making reservations and arrive a little early to find parking ahead of time. The one downside was that there seemed to be only two waitresses, who were very attentive, however, the restaurant should hire at least one more. It took us a while to receive our check before I had to ask for it. We ended up missing out on ice cream afterwards because of the wait. We got several small plates to share and were pleased by all but one, which was too salty (soy sauce), but when we mentioned that to the server, they brought an order of tostones to eat with it, which toned down the salt beautifully. This has been a busy week in San Juan with plenty tourists visiting therefore it's sorta almost impossible to find a table for dinner at most of the restaurants in Condado. Luckily, I was able to secure a reservation. I did notice from the moment I got to the door that it's a very small restaurant and the tables are pretty close together in a small establishment. With that being said I asked the gentleman that was going to seat us if there was a distant table since with covid at the moment I didn't want to be near others. Thankfully the reserved table was in a corner far from other tables since it was next to a pathway leading to the kitchen area. Hence seating capacity in PR is at 50% yet looked fully seated. They are following covid protocols in regards to requiring mask, checking temperature and providing hand sanitizer, however still think the restaurant had too many guests for how small of a place it is which was a bit concerning. Now lets talk about food... Their menu is great and have a big variety, it's all mostly seafood! I ordered several tapas and they were all delicious. My party was large 6 and that is the max number they allow due to covid. The atmosphere was of a modern traditional restaurant. Rarely does reality beat expectations, but after coming to Cayo Blanco 2 of the last 3 nights, I can say this place is a great experience. The food is incredibly well prepeared - my wife had the Lobster tail one night and the grouper the next, both of which she said was amazing. I had the Empanadas as appetizers, followed by the ribs one night and New Your Strip (both with Rice & Beans) the next. My favorite place in Puerto Rico so far. This place is a must try. It's excellent. It's really small so I would make a reservation. Although when we came in jt was pretty empty, but I think it's because there was a tropical storm going on. The service was great. My husband and I decided to do tapas only and we ordered 4 tapas: the avocado ceviche salad, the sampler, the steak empanadas and the scallops. Everything was really good but the sampler was the highlight, it had cod fish croquettes, crab tacos, a crab cake and a couple of shrimp. The fish croquettes were fantastic, I would recommend a whole order of croquettes. I really enjoyed the crab tacos and next time will be ordering a whole order too. It was flaky but it need sauce. There was no sauce at all with this dish where we've had several sauces at other restaurants here in PR. My 14oz steak was not Medium. In fact there was no red at all so it was almost like a well cooked steak. Not good. My friend had the halibut and hers WAS very overcooked. It was not flaky and dry. The presentation was nice but for a $38 halibut I expect it to be PERFECTLY cooked, NOT overcooked. The octopus appetizer we did ordered was, of course, also overcooked...and I love octopus.
