OMG. We were admittedly ready for some good food after being shut in with the torrential rain these past few days, but this place was truly great regardless. We came here after a lot of Yelp research and are so glad that we did. We wanted some food with unique Puerto Rican flavors, but not much frying. We had the Arañitas with 4 flavors (conch, blue crab, ceviche, and octopus), also the Octopus with mushroom reduction, and the mixed seafood stew. Coconut flan was also great! Everything was beautifully presented, flavorful, and just what we wanted. The prices where reasonable for the level of food and service, and the portions plentiful. This place has some hits and lots of misses. The appetizers we had were delicious: octopus, pasteles, shrimp with avocado. The entrees not so great. The fried snapper was overcooked as was the tuna. The mashed potatoes side that accompanied the steak were very salty. The service horrendous. Our waiter Alex was absentminded and dismissive. He got drink orders wrong, he got sides wrong, he made lots of sorry excuses for why our meals were taken so long -- it made what started as a wonderful experience turn real sour, real quick. The entrees all came with mashed potatoes, tostones or amarillos ... so why is it that the tostones that accompanied my entree came approximately 27 minutes after my entree. The service was really bad and it's not a big place... there's only seating for 35 people so there's really no excuse for the terrible service. At the end of the meal the waiter tried to make up for the terrible service by offering us two free desserts. We appreciated the effort, but by that point we had had enough and were eager to cut our losses and end what had turned into an unappetizing venture. Crab cakes was filled with actual crab meat no artificial meat and not a lot of breading, I like the sauce it comes with it. Ordered take out from this restaurant, expecting to finally enjoy a well prepared plate of baby back ribs. The disappointment was huge. They forgot my sides and did not sell me baby back ribs. These were not baby back, instead they appeared to be Louisiana style ribs. Too much barbecue sauce. No flavor at all. After my second walk back to the restaurant the owners failed to exchange or offer a refund. He then proceeded to tell me they were a seafood restaurant....Worst response ever. It was my birthday and our last night in Puerto Rico. I wanted a nice quiet seafood dinner with my husband. This place looked intimate and sure enough it was... barely 20 tables in the place and a handful of seats at the bar. There are 5 tables in the window, which of course is where we desired to be since we wanted to enjoy the atmosphere of the area. Folks this is not a place for kids (and I like kids!). The entire front of the restaurant is windows, and like I said, small so sound reverberates. I finally got my mojito but I do not think the mint was fresh. I could see some black pieces that looked like they'd gone bad floating in my drink, which I removed. On to the food... I ordered the Mahi-Mahi Filet which was Sauteed with butter, onions, red peppers.I picked sweet plantains as my side. I enjoyed my fish and the sweet plantains were a nice change of pace. I also got to sample my husband's mofongo which was really tasty. The service was really slow.and felt torturous mostly due to the family that was next to us who didn't know how to control their kids. I mean, audible difference when they left so much so that all the other guests looked around and gasped. Looking for a place to eat and stopped in front of their door drawn by the menu and signboard out front. We were looking for some kind of seafood and their prices seemed to be a little less that what we had seen online elsewhere so we decided to eat here. Its a small place, and judging by the menu and the ambience definitely not a place that was kid friendly so naturally there were two tables that had a several small children and we sat at a table in between the two. The dinner was really good but the free floorshow watching the parents NOT control their children was not appreciated. The collective sigh that those of use made when they finally left was borderline hilarious. The menu is a combo of Puerto Rican food, seafood, steaks and the like with select appetizers and a decent sized but not lengthy wine list. I still hadn't tried mofongo so tonight I took the plunge and ordred a shrimp variation with a tomato based sauce. It was really good and I'd get it again in a heartbeat. In the evening it has a dark, quiet vibe that I would have really enjoyed if not for the kids running around making a mess of things. It took a long time to get our food, but when it was received it was a quality product. I'd recommend it as a place for a dinner for two as I envision it as a great place to interact with your company. There is some nice basic decor that goes great with the subdued lighting. read more

Very disappointed, we went here because of the reviews and unfortunately we just did not experience a good visit. Seemed like they had 1-2 waiters that were responsible for the whole restaurant. It is a small spot but they definitely need more than one -two waiters. Food was not worth the cost ($175) for 2 people. My husbands steak was very rare, blood coming out of it when he asked for medium. We had rsvps for 8:30 and didn't get our food for a hour and a half. Waiter never gave us an update, never gave my husband a refill on water. Cups smelled as if they hadn't been washed. Will not be returning here. We've had the spicy calamari and shrimp avocado as appetizers, the calamari was mediocre. However, the shrimp avocado was tasty! For our main entrees, we had the seafood paella and their special for the night which was a Puerto Rican style red snapper stuffed with shrimp. After being VERY disgruntled and agitated from the wasted taxi fare and trying to get to that shack of a place over in Isla Verde, the husband was like lets go to the place cross from our hotel. He said let's give them a shot....I was VERY skeptical given the fact that we were given a small Postcard/Flyer from a very attractive woman. To be honest, we were planning on going there but the irony was the woman, the flyer, and the free first round on them promo. Small but cozy. Modern but very chill. Noisy but what do you expect from a small joint. The Chef was pretty confident in his food. Good sign- no salt and pepper shakers on the table. Pricey but the food was VERY good. BUT- what I don't get is why the mandatory 20% on the tipping? We were a bit thrown off by that and usually tip more than 20% every time we dine. We were just a party of 3? Confidence in staffing, waitering, hosting, and food should be enough for someone to figure out what they should personally give for the services rendered? Perhaps, maybe adding a mandatory 10% tip? I decided to have dinner at Cayo Blanco after walking by a few evenings. It looked like a nice restaurant and I didn't remember if from other visits so I was excited to try something new. I started my meal with a glass of champagne, then ordered a caesar salad and finally the skirt steak with beans & rice and maduros. The steak was really good, very flavorful and tender. The chimichurri had the best flavor and was a great compliment. The beans & rice and maduros were very good and the meal was an upscale version of my favorite meal, so I enjoyed it thoroughly. My server team brought a digestif that was so good, a nice ending to a good meal. The service here is very good, the team is very friendly and warm and they clearly take pride in working at Cayo Blanco. I will return here for dinner when I return to San Juan. read more

Went here for dinner after reading yelp reviews and it was such a disappointment! Waited for drinks for half am hour, they were terrible, no alcohol just sweet syrup and ice. Got food after about an hour. Ceviche in avocado half had small boiled shrimp, completely tasteless. When we received main courses we were in shock, white fish and tuna tasted like they have been in a freezer for a year!! There were pieces of weird and mad salty squid all over my plain and overcooked tuna. Not fresh at all and smelled awful!
