Place is hit or miss. When it is good, it's very good. When poor, it is uninspiring and over priced. Their burger is always solid and is arguably one of the top in town (second to Hudson House) and their brunch is filling and value packed; at HH it's half off and at 7.50 there are few better deals in downtown Dallas. Drinks are always well made and they have a decent list with original libations Instead of regurgitating the classics with one ingredient changed as most restaurants do. Stay away from the flat iron steak; it's probably the worst steak I've ever had in a restaurant; tough (barely able to chew) and was drenched in chimichirri to the point it was having oil pool on the plate. The rest of the menu is solid so just stay away from the grill. read more

Cbd is a great time and a great restaurant. I have eatin here a few times with others. I really have the same thing each time. It is so much fun. The Pig head. This time there were two Asian girls next to us. We had so much fun with them they ordered it too. The pig head comes out with all the fixing for tacos. The meat in that cheek area is so moist. I've been to this place twice, and each time, I've ordered the Berkshire Pig Head Carnitas. It costs $75, so I recommend splitting it with a couple of your friends. In my experience, it can provide a satisfactory meal for up to 4-5 people. I remember the first time I went with two other guys, surprisingly, we weren't able to finish it. Take all your friends and share it together! The ambiance is very nice on the inside, and the service we received from our waiter was excellent. If you have to take the Berkshire Pig Head Carnitas to go in a box, the waiter will carve it out for you. If this is your first time visiting this restaurant, you guys should order this iconic dish. Honestly a bad experience overall. Service was subpar. Not a single vodka drink on the cocktail list, my food came out luke-warm and the French fries were cold. My boyfriends food was good, bust still barely warm. Not a great thing for a hotel that has such a great name as The Joule. read more

The problem is everything just barely hit the mark with flavor. Barely! The jam could have been so good with just a pinch more of sugar. The Migas could have used some sort of pico blend or a red sauce instead of a green. The sausage needed a pinch of salt and pepper. The bacon was the only thing we felt was fine. Bottom line is - for the regular person this is a fine breakfast place. If your palette requires more elevated flavors I'd suggest skipping this one. read more

The staff ATE OUR BIRTHDAY CAKE we brought. This happened about a month ago and still bugs me. We decided to stay at the hotel and celebrate with a surprise birthday dinner for my husbands birthday (nothing about this was cheap). Somehow the back staff ate the cake before it was even presented. Therefore we did not get to sing happy birthday, take pics, eat cake and celebrate his 40th in the way any normal birthday dinner would go. The staff had NO explanation for how this happened and was a very bizarre experience. They tried to bring out two sliced mangled pieces with a candle in one. Amazing Berkshire Pig Head Carnitas! All I needed was a round table and a few of my best Knights to complete this homage to a grand meal from the medieval era. Although, I seriously doubt they were able to have an end result that tasted this decadent or cocktails crafted to this perfection in their era. I wanted to order this during my last visit, but a friends wife was not a fan of the presentation. This was a "guys night out" however and we were all hungry. Our waitress, who's name I have lamentably forgotten, was unfazed by my 2000 + questions about which cheeses had been made with pasteurised milk, and worked super hard to make sure my annoyingly specific pregnant appetite was sated (a carefully selected 4 side dish hotchpotch) - and she got the bar tender to make me an actually delicious savoury mocktail. Huge bonus points for making me feel like part of the adult world rather than a round sulky teenager. The pork chop was extremely salty. The first bite and the salt was just posing out of the meat. The consistency of the food was good, but it was over salted. I wonder if it was just my dish or this is how they make it. We asked the server if this is how it's supposed to be made and he said yes... This place is great. I've experienced both brunch and dinner. After (complimentary) valeting, you can enter through CBD's doors or through the Joule hotel. CBD has staples as well as a rotating menu. As far as dinner staples, you will always see the pork carnitas (half pig head) they've come to be known for. I am curious but not curious enough to try it. You can't go wrong with the steak or lamb. They were both tender and cooked to perfection. The TX charcuterie board was ok but I wouldn't order it again. I wasn't a fan of the thick toast or bland sausage served with it. The mushrooms are a great starter but it is a small portion. During brunch, you have several sweet and savory options. I had the Cuban sandwich with a side salad and loved it. They have many local beers to choose from and have concocted a great cocktail list. Their spicy bloody Mary's are well prepared. From valet to waitstaff, personnel is top notch and attentive.
