Went here two weeks ago, and I've already been back a second time because The Oak Hill Tavern is just that good! They have a great menu with pub style apps, burgers, and delicious entrees, a comfortable atmosphere, live music on the weekends, and just an over all great vibe. On my first visit, my friend and I both ordered the prime rib, which is a special on Saturday nights. The meat was tender, flovorful, and the portion size was great. It was served with a baked potato (with lots of butter and sour cream), and roasted green beans - all were delicious! Service was perfect - we never had to wait long for anything. Our server was friendly, prompt, and we couldn;t have asked for anything more. My second visit was with my husband and our two daughters. My daughters split the fish and chips and they said it was really good. My husband got chicken and waffles, and I got the prime rib again. Once again, the service was perfect, and the prime rib dinner was outstanding. My daughters went home after dinner, but my husband and I moved over to the bar as we wanted to stay for the live music. The band was called Rash Cat and we really enjoyed their performance. They were super talented and had great classic song choices, and the music was loud enough to provide a fun atmosphere, but also quiet enough that you could still carry on a conversation. I'd definitely go back to see them again. I'd like to come back again to try more of the menu items and to enjoy the outdoor patio & fire pit. What a great RI tavern for all seasons! read more

So I've always wondered what it was like inside, as the outside looks sketchy. Inside seemed nice enough. Food was ok. I had the Cuban sandwich, and they did have my favorite whiskey. Service was very slow and as a result tables were coming up to the bar to order making waitresses confused. I asked for a glass of water. First glass had a little friend swimming. Nothing has changed here since my last review, I even had the same rib eye steak sandwich, and just like last time, it was like butter. No need for the steak knife it came with! My husband had a Reuben, which he said was very good and chuck full of meat. The music tonight was outside, but there are only chairs and the fire pit. Tables are on the other side in the back, so not sure if you would be able to hear the band very well. We had 2 waitresses trying to take care of us, but they figured it out and we were good to go. $12 for a can of beer! There is a reason they don't put beer prices on the menu. Only after I got the check that I found out the can of beer was $12. I guess the old saying that if you have to ask you can't afford it. It's a shame but buyer beware. read more

Food is a 2 but the service was good. The buffalo wings were terrible. The chicken almost tasted like it was left out too long before cooking. I have nothing good to say about the food. My elderly friend wanted to take home the 75 cent wings in a box which is they do not allow. The waitress lost her patience trying to explain this and made a huge scene slamming plates into the bus bin before storming off. I was really shaken up and embarrassed. My wife and I stopped in for the first time and I would same the last times the food was horrible. I ordered a rack of ribs that were very tough, it is sad to say but for a place that says they are a BBQ joint the meat was not falling off the bones. Stopped here for lunch on our vacation travels. Funky little roadside tavern. Atmosphere is cool. Great for little ones during the day. Food was very good. Staff was friendly and everyone was nice to my kids. Popcorn machine and barrel of peanuts. Had a great burger. The homemade chips and the cucumber salad are fantastic. Prices are reasonable. My wife and I have lived in RI for the past 6 years. We've passed this place on numerous occasions. We met some friends there last night to listen to a band, not knowing if the food was good or not. This place has been here forever and I remember the complimentary popcorn/peanuts from my childhood! There's an old fashioned popcorn popper and barrel of whole peanuts - serve yourself with little red baskets... nostalgia! Throwing peanut shells on the ground in a restaurant is not really my thing (and peanut allergies beware) but my 8 year old son loved it and the paper tablecloths there work great as a sketch pad for doodling. Went for early dinner yesterday and the place was not busy at all and our service was prompt and friendly. Chicken fingers and outstanding fries for the kiddo were abundant, extra crispy and piping hot when brought to the table. I had a mug of the RI clam chowder and K and I shared a stuffie to try. The clear brothed chowder was simply flavored and nicely briny and a tasty stuffie dotted with green peppers. I went with the Mediterranean salad with grilled shrimp (in lieu of chicken) for my entree. A huge fresh salad with roasted red peppers, feta cheese, black olives, sun-dried tomatoes. I think a bit too heavy handed with the sun-dried tomatoes but a tasty Greek dressing and the shrimp had a nice wood grill taste. K had the star entree - the 1/2 rack of ribs. Fall off the bone, smoky, sweet, deliciousness. The barbecue here is the way to go! A small side of pickled cucumber salad was a nice pairing. The prime rib special and cook your own steak night sounds like something to come back for too. Fish and chips, wraps and burgers passed out table and all looked great. We are not drinkers but there is an outdoor bar/fire pit/corn holing area looks like fun for a nighttime crowd. They have live music here too. read more

First time here. Had lunch at the bar. Started with the pretzels and cheese sauce, which did not disappoint. Pulled pork sandwich was amazing. Just what pulled pork should be, tender and flavorful before you even hit it with the sauce. The sweet potato fries were super crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Went in for Friday night special, and I " got" the special, NOT. Had been there 2 nights before, we're 3 people total, each a meal 4 drinks and bill $51. Ok given food etc. Go in to get fish and chip special, tell girl we want a salad for condiment and will pay upcharge, no problem she says. We get 2 salads, 2 fish and chips, 1 draft beer and bill is $54??? When questioned waitress says oh they don't do upcharge on salad, charged full price for them AND I got no condiment with my meal( salad was to replace it). Waitress says she'll check walks off to serving desk and then after waiting and doing absolutely nothing cones back to say I checked and they won't allow salad as upcharge, my mistake,and owner recently increased all thevpricez???no discount nothing but basically getting what I guess is their "Special" of the day. Caught one of them rolling their eyes at another table, and ours was just plain old miserable. I've been here a few times because it's very close by. The food is pretty good, they smoke the ribs in house from what I understand...tasty stuff! They always have some special thing going on like wing Wednesday or whatever. The reason I have to leave 3 stars is because the service is usually non existent. So disorganized and we always seem to get the same MISERABLE LADY. Tall, blonde usually has a streak of purple in her hair and looks like her face would crack if she ever smiled!! Super short with everyone and just kinda tosses everything at you. IF YOU HATE SERVING PEOPLE DONT WORK IN A RESTAURANT!! She doesn't even try to fake being happy! She was so rude to my wife she got visibly upset. We never complain because we both work in restaurants. This time we did, the bartender/manager legit said. My husband and I went in last Saturday afternoon for lunch. The place wasn't very busy. We noticed the menu says home of the award winning BBQ. So, I ordered a barbeque chicken sandwich. The chicken was so tough I couldn't chew it. It had no taste whatsoever. I had hubby try to make sure it wasn't just me...he agreed. ****ALERT**** Missing waitress! Last seen: serving our food then never returned. Seriously though went yesterday (Sunday for lunch) our waitress gave us our food, then she never came back. We finished our meals and never got asked how it was, if we wanted dessert, refills on our drinks, boxes to go, nothing. We waited about 15 minutes after we finished eating, and never saw her. Finally I waved down another waitress who cleared our table and got us our check. We left the money on the table and left... We never saw our original waitress again. The food was very good that's why I'm still giving this place 4 stars and if I'm in the area again I will probably stop back in and hopefully get a better waitress.
