Oh wow! Definitely a gem in the Financial District for a quick happy hour! We came in on a Thursday afternoon during Happy Hour (4-6 PM). We got a sangria and margarita and chicken nachos. The drinks were about $6 and the nachos were $8 with protein. The value for the price is unbeatable. The sangria was strong and a pretty decent serving. The nachos were a perfect size to snack on with our cocktails! The chips were crunchy and the chicken was well cooked. The food went great with the drinks. The ambiance is nice and well decorated. We were out and about, looking for a place to have dinner on a Wednesday evening. We didn't expect that most restaurants were only taking reservations. On our way back to the hotel, we came by Cenote. It didn't look like much from the outside. It only had a few small tables with hard stool-style seats, fast food style. However.... The food was incredible! The four of us had all a different dish, and all four dishes looked beautiful. The flavors were fresh and very tasty. No disappointment! If you are looking for a mid-range priced dinner with awesome flavor in that neighborhood, this is your place! We all paid less than $20 for a fabulous dinner. What a wonderful find, this is my go to work lunch when I wanna eat something tasty yet still feel pretty healthy/good about myself lol. Cancun bowl with carne asada is THE BEST but also hurts the bank the most ($18-20). Get this to treat yo self. Carne asada is so tender and juicy. The chicken is also very good and cheaper ($16). It's thigh so ya know it's juicy and tender but personal pref hands down is asada. Comes with a bunch of colorful goodies like black beans, guacamole, mushrooms, peppers and rice. The restaurant is great for dining in with a small group (ample tables for 4, with one larger table that can accommodate 8) and also convenient for takeout (can order online or in person). Service is always speedy. Want a healthy lunch? Their salads are delicious, fresh, clean, and filling. My personal go-to is their Avo-Cabo salad ($9.99) with chicken al pastor (+$3). For ~$14, it is certainly well priced for SF! Want a more hearty lunch? They offer bowls and burritos that will certainly fill you up. Although I've never ordered a bowl/burrito myself, my coworkers have only had good things to say about the portions, taste, and food quality. A new counter service Mexican joint in the FiDi that will serve you on actual plates with silverware if you choose to eat in. So a great fast casual vibe. The food is better than Chipotle for sure, though I can't think of one dish that's really wow-worthy. Cenote Elote: Very creamy. Very! The corn seems fresh since it has a nice snap to it and I saw some piece still together like it was freshly shaved off the cob. The is a decent amount of crumbled cheese and spice on top to give it some nice flavor. Though the cream (or mayo?) underneath mixed with the corn is a bit intense. And that's kinda all you taste after the topping is gone. Carnitas Street Taco: The heartiest of the meats. Think I got in one more bite from this street taco than the others. Though not as much flavor going on as the other meats. Carne Asada Street Taco: I like the taste of texture of this one. Though not sure if it's worth an add-on fee compared to the pork or chicken. Only issue is that the meat seemed a little cold while both the pork and the chicken were nice and warm. Maybe since it's made earlier, but not sitting in any warm sauce? Chicken Al Pastor Street Taco: Not quite like the spicy nicely crusted pork al pastor I'm used to. The chicken wasn't that seared at all. The flavor was a little tangy and a little sweet. Probably my least favorite of the three meats. Baja Breakfast Burrito w/ Chorizo: Very filling. Even more filling than the lunch options. Pretty much hits all the right notes with eggs, melty cheese, potato chunks and chorizo. Though some of the potatoes felt a tad too firm. Lots of flavor oozing out of that chorizo, so I didn't need to add too much sauce. Crispy Chicken Milanesa Torta: I ordered this sandwich primarily because I'm a big fan of queso fresco and there was supposed to be a big chunk in the middle. Got my torta and no queso fresco! But upon raising my concern, they added some. Overall, a decent sandwich with all the toppings. Though the fried chicken was kinda thin and dry. Watermelon Agua Fresca: Very refreshing. Tasted like a lot of watermelon juice was in this and it wasn't too diluted with water. Though the portion felt kinda small as I found myself running out before I finished my 3 tacos. Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice: Tasted very fresh, with a few big chunks of pulp. Perfect to contrast the richness of the breakfast burrito. Cantaloupe Agua Fresca: Mild and a little bland. The watermelon agua fresca was definitely more interesting. read more

Stopped by around 5 pm on a Tuesday and it was not too busy. Cenote is a new restaurant that opened up a few months ago. The interior is very nice and clean. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Came here to try their Happy Hour items and it did not disappoint. Tried the flautas ($5), sangria ($6), chips and salsa ($2), and chicken quesadilla ($4 + $3 for chicken). Located in the San Francisco Financial District Cenote is healthy more reasonable option for eating out. Minutes from the Ferry Building we walked down Market to Pine. I order the Yucatán Bowl with Carne Asada. This was very flavorful with diced jicama , broiled pineapple over rice and beans with the Carne diced on top. My husband ordered the shrimp tacos which was good. The place was bustling and there was enough seating. This is a casual restaurant where you order/ pick up from the counter. Downtown sf is full of sterile dining options like chipotle, sweet green and other generic but decent dining options that are economical for lunch. This place recently popped up (probably in the last few years) and their burritos are great. What do I like about them? They are simple, flavorful and taste nutritionally balanced. The construction and ingredients are well polished. Did I mention this place looks nice on the inside and has a solid happy hour and liquor license? As a protein the chicken is a hit nicely charred and apparently has pineapples in it. I appreciate the tulum vibes this place has, it's always clean and the food comes out reasonably quick even during the lunch time rush. Please do yourself a favor and request for both the salsas as they are excellent: the green is a nice mix of spicy and smoky while the red is more acidic but also lovely. Sure the prices are little high for a burrito, but retail and wages are expensive in Fidi and I think the portion size justifies it. read more

The fried garbanzo beans had the moistened soggy feel of candle wax, not crispy fried tortilla chips. It was like eating discarded theater popcorn after it had been left in a theater cardboard box overnight at a beach with giant surf misting it and in foggy weather. Popcorn, and fried garbanzo beans, are meant to make crispy noise when chewed with your mouth open. Did I say open? Well yes. How else can you possibly make enough noise to annoy theatergoers sitting near you? As I was saying, I had to dig the garbanzos off of the other layers of food including tepid rice and browning salsa so I could then kind of redeem a meal out of it. Mind you those G beans went uneaten (see pic) and were the only source of protein on the plate. Alas! The rest of the food was in three star category. I never give three star reviews though, because, they are mediocre. Take the G beans plus add the aloof, distracted AND pushy cashier, plus the temperamental server that all he had to do was call my number twice, and they have tipped this from a category 2.8, to a clear crisp 2.0 star night. Note the stars are in a crisp night, which is far removed from the G beans that lost crisp to San Francisco fog weeks ago. And what ever happened to drive-in theaters? By the way, the name of the restaurant is Cenote, which means a sinkhole partially inundated with water, mulike my Garbanzo beans. read more

I walked in on a Friday afternoon to order the Street Style Tacos and went with carnitas. I ordered a trio of carnitas Street Style Tacos to go. I didn't have to wait too long to pick up my order, maybe 5 minutes? The food was still nice and warm by the time I arrived back at my office. Oh boy! These were some big tacos with the filling almost spilling from the sides! The tacos were almost as scrumptiously delicious as the tacos I've had in San Diego. I basically inhaled the tacos and didn't even think to save or share with family. I gobbled up all 3 tacos in less than 15 minutes. Cenote is a great place to get a fresh and filling lunch for $11-12! For the plant-based folks, no need to fret because Cenote has quite a few vegetarian and vegan options on their menu. Good flavor in the bowl - it wasn't mind blowing but it was miles better than Chipotle and a great & easy meal for a quick work lunch in FIDI. Steak wasn't chewy at all and was nicely cubed. Inside of the restaurant was clean and a worker cleaned my table and picked up the dishes right after I got up (this was at 1pm so probably past the lunch rush so it wasn't busy at all). There was also self serve water (with lemon) that you can grab with your meal. Would definitely come back again if I went into the office more often. read more

My torta was good, but not a standout for the type. My friend described her salad as "one note" and debated taking the leftovers home with her. She did, eventually. Service was super friendly, I asked the cashier what salad she recommended and she said all were good and after asking for her favorite she said it was the Rancho, so of course that's what i ordered. I got the Rancho Salad with Carne Asada and it was tasty. I'm usually not a salad girlie but felt like a lighter lunch typa day and this really hit the spot. The salad comes tossed so if you don't plan on eating the whole salad in one sitting, definitely ask for the dressing on the side as the salad has tortilla strips that will get soggy if you save it for later.
