Imagine this, you wake up and realize you forgot to order Mom's favorite carrot cake for her 73rd birthday today! You hustle to Certified Kitchen Bakery and yup, your fears have become a reality. These carrot cakes sell out quickly. In comes "Lola", who's all hands on deck on a Sunday morning with all 16 arms doing all sorts of things as people just kept coming in through the door. I asked Lola if they had a carrot cake in the back by chance and she tells me she will check and she comes back and tells me there is one getting finished in the next 15 minutes and I tell her I will wait for it so in meantime I'm order a Certified breakfast sandwich and a chai tea latte and it was the most delicious waiting I have ever done and while I enjoyed my yummy breakfast sandwich I got to see the kitchen staff (army / soldiers) put on an amazing performance. The brownie was *very* rich and we both had a hard time eating our fair half. I would say it would be best split between 3-4 people if you want a taste but not a taste bud obliteration. I don't know what happened to this place; we used to go to Certified every week, but I'm never going back. We tried to call for an order and were told they don't take online or phone orders on Mother's Day. I drove to order in store, which meant less time with my family, and the server walked away from the counter for several minutes, leaving me standing there like an idiot. It was much less busy than a usual Sunday, so I was surprised they didn't take orders. I spoke to a manager to tell them I was disappointed they didn't take orders even though they weren't busy, and she responded that they've already made $2000 that day. I guess they don't need my business. Oh, and the oatmeal was cold when I received it. So that was fun. For your own mental health, please don't go to Certified. A fun and trendy place to stop for a quick bite. On a Sunday morning, my friend and I stopped in for a coffee and a breakfast item and it was very, very busy. Each of these food items were eight dollars. We rounded it out with some hot drinks; a cappuccino and a hot chocolate, which were just what we needed on this cold blustery morning. Delicious coffee! My husband got a mocha and I got a hazelnut latte, both of which were very good. You can tell that the beans they used are superb quality -- both lattes tasted sooo smooth. Whatever chocolate they used for the mocha also was great quality. We both liked that the lattes had just the right amount of sweetness, and still had that prominent coffee taste. We also got a breakfast egg sandwich (bacon) with their sourdough English muffin, and the heuvos rancheros breakfast burrito. My breakfast sandwich was so good and the arugula added a nice peppery flavor to it. The English muffin itself had great texture. My husband had the burrito and he loved it. We couldn't not get baked goods while we were here, so we also got their chocolate chip cookie with pecans and their blueberry crumble bar. They were both huge! Cookie was good (although nothing extraordinary), and the crumble bar was also good. You can tell there was a bit of lemon used with the blueberry filling -- which is what you should always do! Yummy yummy! Stopped in for brunch while in the area. There are so many delicious sounding menu options that it was hard to pick! The English muffins being homemade sourdough sold me though! The breakfast sandwich was amazing, and they even sell packs of sourdough English muffins to go! The breakfast grain bowl was also delicious -- warm, fresh, and tasty. They have a variety of drink options, coffees made to order and cold beverages in the cooler. We tried two different kombuchas, one canned as well as their on tap option, and both were delicious! I couldn't pass up a baked good, and the chocolate cake with flaky sea salt on top was wonderfully rich! There are a variety of other baked goods to choose from as well. While service was quick, to go is the best option as there is not much seating room. (Although there is a small bar if you're in a pinch). Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area! read more

Came by here for some sweets/pastries. Poorly ran line and overall inefficient flow of traffic. The staff member that assisted us was friendly. Our order was poorly packaged with little thought to quality. Tried the sourdough brownie. It was over cooked as was the lemon bar. Pretty disappointing. I've had both of these items in the past and they've always been top notch. Well not today. I ordered a "fresh squeezed orange juice." There wasn't a morsel of freshness about it. Bottom of the cup even had a sell by date that was dated for tomorrow. This one really irks me. False advertising. I don't want to pay $4.50 for some subpar OJ. Can you give a place 10 stars? Katie and her team deserve every single one of them. Our daughter had a custom cheesecake made for her wedding at a French/Italian restaurant just down the street from Certified. Unfortunately the restaurant had already sliced the cake into wedges, preempting the bride and groom from being able to "cut the cake." When we explained the problem to them, they shrugged their shoulders and said their baker didn't work Sundays. Offered no help whatsoever. Certified Bakery to the rescue! We called to see if there was any way they could help us. Moments later we arrived and Katie met us at the door. She said they could try to see what they could do. An hour later we picked up the cake, beautifully restored to look like a whole cake again. The entire baking staff was there to give their congratulations on the day, and so thoughtfully didn't charge a dime! And all of this happened on a very busy Sunday morning with many customers in the bakery.... We can never thank Katie and her fellow bakers enough for their efforts in rescuing the wedding cake. Came here for a grab and go breakfast and was excited that we beat the morning crowd. They have some amazing premade salads, delicious chocolate chip and pecan cookies (Starchip cookies), and their sandwiches are phenomenal. I really really wished we could have gotten the pre made chicken pot pie or lasagna! You have to bake it at home but we ran out of time. Everything here looks delicious. That said, everything is fresh. You get to watch them prep the food, bakery items, and ingredients while you wait for your food. Update 'heads up' for a new "Thursday Family Meal" that Certified offered for the first time this week (8/20/20) as delivery - including for a nominal fee to my distant from Boise location of Eagle. Most of the quality ingredient Boise eateries we enjoy don't deliver to our neck of the woods and that Certified is on our quality list and delivered for only $10 gets a "woohoo" from us! Delivery in Boise proper is only $5. Or you can pick up the meal at the eatery. We are 'well seasoned' home cooks who source mostly local ingredients (so we have high standards for take away) and enjoy cooking a lot (it keeps us sane in crazy times). But it is lovely to have good food at home that one neither has to cook themselves nor make the almost one hour round trip to Boise locales to pick up! (We choose not to use Uber or GrubHub knowing how they financially bleed independent eateries already working on slim margins.) Certified offers this family meal sized to serve 2 or 4 people. I hope it is wildly successful so they'll continue to offer it and we can continue to use it. Check Certified's Facebook page or website for more information. But the basics follow, keeping in mind this is a new program for them and so subject to change. HOW IT WORKS: *They announce the menu on Friday or Saturday with orders needing to be placed (by email) by 5p Sunday for the meal choice for Thursday delivery. Tip: Get on their email distribution list to receive this directly. *Confirmation of order email is by email. Tuesday or Wednesday they call to collect credit card payment information and confirm the Thursday morning delivery time. * Delivery was spot-on on time in the Thursday morning window, the delivery person - who was owner in our case - wore a mask and stood back after ringing bell to see if we had any questions before leaving. *The packaging was perfectly done - not all takeaway orders from all places get this right and it is so important. All items are refrigerated on arrival and with clear, easy to use instructions on how to reheat those that need reheating when you're ready to do that. *Dinners can be enjoyed day of delivery or up to two days later per the instructions. THE EATS: *On inaugural week there were 3 options to order: roast Mary's chicken with chimichurri, brisket with gravy and veg lasagna. All came with salad of super fresh mixed greens with grilled nectarine, goat cheese, toasted almonds. The chicken and brisket options also came with an orzo side that had fresh cherry tomatoes and corn in the mix. (We chose the chicken option and Mary's is a quality brand we use too.) *Prices were $30 for service for 2 or $55 for service for 4. Pencils in at $15 or less per serving. My absolute favorite thing to get here is their breakfast sandwich. The sandwich comes with egg, arugula, white cheddar cheese, and a delicious sauce. You can also add bacon or avocado for an up charge. The sandwich comes served on their homemade English muffins, which are to die for!
