I really don't like giving ratings like this but when a company tries to steer me wrong it really frustrates the heck out of me! I was recommended to go to this shop from what I consider a very respectable shop. So we set up an appointment to have 'Vinny' look a my break system. Vinny looks at my set up, runs a quick compression test and says 'this set up is not good and we can do something's that would cost you a couple hundred bucks to get it ok but what you really need is a hydro boost system and it will cost about $4000!' Ouch! Vinny did seem trustworthy initially, the shop look the part and I considered the investment since I've invested thousands of dollars into my classic ride! But I've always been told believe but verify so I called up my good buddies over at Mustang etc and inquired about the hydro boost and asked how much would they charge me to install this system. Well come to find out they stop installing them in Mustangs and didn't recommend them. The service advisor asked me to bring it on down and let them have a look at it! Well after a new brake pedal adjuster, brake booster hose to the intake fitting and some brake adjustments that 66 Mustang stop exceptionally well for under $400! Maybe Vinny didn't have the time to work on my vehicle or something but I am happy I went elsewhere! read more

Vince Sr, Vince Jr and Frank are absolutely the best at what they do, brakes and customer service . I bought a 1991 Toyota FJ80, the previous owner had just had the brakes done at the dealership Toyota of Buena Park. What's huge $942 mistake ! They actually caused more damage than good. Vince and his team threw away all the dealer parts and started from scratch. New brake hoses , new pads and shoes. Rebuild the cylinders added a new booster and master cylinder with new vacuum tank. Now the big SUV stops! They also changed the bearing and front axial spindle and hub bea use the dealer didn't tighten them and they rubbed and caused warping and metal grinding. If they don't feel that the car is safe they won't let it go! Most important to know that not only do they do brakes on classic cars and customs, they can also do them on your daily driver or even your propeller plane! I bought a front disc brake conversion kit from another company for my truck and CH Topping made it all work with a new master, booster, and splitting lines. I could have done the job myself but did not want to (time, space, etc), but I have done it in the past. I am only saying that because I know what is involved with the job. Price was spot on and their knowledge and experience is outstanding. When I picked up my truck and we opened the hood, all I needed to see was the stainless steel brake lines bent to perfection. I basically said stop talking, I can see what amazing work they do just from that. Vinny was great to deal with and everyone was friendly and professional. Quote was super reasonable and he was spot on with his estimate of how long it would take. This is an appointment only brake only shop that has been a round since the 30's. Specializing with I assume older classic cars there was a modern SUV there. With a history servicing the Long Beach area, I felt their knowledge and understanding and timely attention is well worth it. The main entrance and counter is on Esther, the vehicle drop off is in the back from the alley. Took me a minute to find it as the tree out front was blocking the CH Topper sign. I was recommend by a close friend. I called CH Topping in Long Beach 40 minutes away from my house to get help with a very easy and small request. I needed my brake pads riveted on to my shoes. They said no problem. The employee ask his boss and he said $40. But when we get there the boss ( owner) said they don't have time and wanted to sale me his brake shoes for $80.00 . The shop was empty. No one was working. They all where just sitting at the counter. Then I asked to purchase just the rivets the boss told me because we took 20 minutes of his time. Now it will cost me $25.00 For $3 worth of rivets. But after some discussion with the employee he let me have them for $15.00 Unbelievable Also the shop was empty and no work going on. Do you drive an old car? Do you still have drum breaks? If your answer is yes to both questions, then this place is where you want to go. We had recently purchased a 1962 Chevy II Nova, and for the most part it is pretty clean but the breaks would screech randomly and when applying the breaks. We though that the fluids needed to be checked and a adjustment would do the trick. We had try to take it to our local Allen Tire & Break shop but we had it there for five hours and they never even looked at it. Luckily we have a few friends that drive classic cars and our friend Bob had refereed us to CH Topping. My husband made an appointment, so we dropped it off on a Monday so they could do an inspection. They went through the whole car, and this baby needed some extra attention. We pretty much needed to replace the bulk of the break system. So he added some fluids, and were told all the parts that we needed to order (Cheaper for us to order they told us, since they would add a $50 ordering fee), and we scheduled to bring it back once we received all the parts. Unfortunately we could not find replacement drums for the back breaks for since they are no longer made but we were told they could work with what we had to make everything safe. A few days later our baby was ready to go. My husband was thoroughly impressed with CH Topping, Vince and the staff are extremely knowledgeable and know exactly what they are doing. They can even make some parts if they can't find them. Pricing is fair, all things considered there is a lot of work involved in what they do so we didn't even flinch at what the final cost came to. Price gouging at its finest, I had a power brake booster and master cylinder replaced in my 1956 ford F-100 P/U. Parts total approximately $400.00 and the install couldn't take more than 3hrs. at the most. I was speechless when I received a bill for $987.00 approximately $550.00 for labor. The best! I had some braided brake lines made for my 1959 Austin A-40. Also had some brake cylinders sleeved for the same application. Awesome price for great long lasting work. BTW: I was referred by a Rolls Royce dealership. The service guy told me a little secret. They use Topping often, and for almost everything! Happy Motoring! CH Topping is the best there is in brakes and service. I have been using them for more than 10 years. I used to go to Toyota but my brakes never last. CH Topping made my brakes a lot better and it last 2 to 3 times the Toyota dealer brakes because Vince, the owner, only used the best quality materials. M&G Brake System Installed By C.H. Topping & Co. Just before I damaged our motorhome [http://rvdogonblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/some-days-are-just-plain-bad.html] we took our '08 Honda CRV "toad" in to C. H. Topping & Co. in Long Beach, CA to have the M&G Engineering proportional brake system installed. The work was done in two days and was a "first class" job in all respects including the re-routing and support of master cylinder hydraulic lines which is necessary because of cylinder repositioning due to installation of the M&G components. We were to return the following week to complete the work on the motorhome. Unfortunately, our motorhome accident caused a bit of a delay. The folks at C.H. Topping were more than accomodating even though the lions share of the job had already been done and they had yet to be paid. Their response when I called them to announce the postponement and offer partial payment was unexpected but very much appreciated. "No problem! Just give us a call when you get your motorhome back. You can pay us when the job is done" Last week we returned to complete the installation which they wrapped up in about three hours. I was referred to C.H.Topping to have my brakes checked on a 2005 VW Toureg. I had a brake light check on the dash. I talked to Vinnie and he was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. He called me as soon as he could verify if both the front and rear brakes needed to be replaced (and if the rotors were affected or not). Only the front brake pads and sensors needed to be repllaced. He also recommended a brake fluid flush (which I have never had done since I've owned the car---oops!) Frank and Vince were also very nice. When I picked up the car Vinnie showed me the brake pad and sensor he removed from my car. I wasn't too sure what to excpect when I went there, but once I was inside and spoke to the staff, I was confident that they would do a good job.
