Came here around 12PM on Chinese New Year and the place was packed. Luckily, our party arrived before the wait became unreasonable. This was my second time here and I decided to try some of their lunch items instead of the HK style breakfast. Not sure if it was due to how crowded the place was but they kept getting our orders wrong (wrong drink, toast with peanut butter and condensed milk arrived without the peanut butter, someone else's drink orders were delivered to our table, etc). They do manually take orders but you have to wave them down. If you're tech savvy, order via the QR code since the food comes faster. We ordered 4 items and it was enough to share amongst 3 people! Rice noodle w/ mix sauce and the French toast was my favorite! The ham and egg sandwich was okay, it lacked seasoning (salt, need more mayo), I've had better sandwiches elsewhere. This is a great place if you'd like to have the so called "fast food" in HK (茶餐廳). I have been craving for baked pork chop with rice for a long time, and this is what I wanted! At first bite the sauce was a bit too salty, but then I mixed it with the rice and it was alright. If only they put more cheese on top it would be even better. The HK style milk tea was very tasty. 1 star for the audacity to label themselves a HK cafe. Their food is inedible - everything is either too sweet or salty. Curry fish balls are supposed to be savory but these were overly sweet, why?! To be fair, the only dish that was tolerable was the beef chow foon but it was not enough to save this establishment. read more

Definitely worth a try with this new revamped menu with a twist of what was traditional Hong Kong tea house favorites. Menu is somewhat limited but pretty good. The curry triangles came first and was a pleasant surprise, followed by chicken wings and the rest. Portions were decent size and our party of three satisfied and had left overs. read more

Cha Kee is a Cha chaan teng or HK style diner type food. it's supposed to be cheap, easy and filling with a lot of "Western style" food. So for HK people western food is made up of cheese, overcooked pasta and portuguese sauce but not all at thr same time. Portuguese sauce is like very mild curry with cream. The pastas are well- overcooked usually. I usually skip that. But hey, if you like that go ahead! I would just look for the Cantonese dishes like the shrimp omelette and the chinese noods- there is plenty of that on the menu! read more

We were looking for an HK cafe for lunch and stopped in here. It's a cute spot and pretty inexpensive, which is great but the servers weren't responsive and the food was just alright. We ordered a decent number of items (not pictured are the rice rolls and pork chop with macaroni and tomato sauce) and everything tasted okay but nothing really blew us away. The two noodle soup dishes just needed more flavor, and the tomato sauce on the pork chop tasted like canned tomato soup. We ordered with the QR code online and the servers brought the food out fast, which was great, but when we tried to get the check, it took so long to flag someone down and then just as long to actually get the check and have some one tell us to go to the front to pay. It looks like this restaurant completely transforms into a different spot at night, so I think we'll still be back to try that as well as maybe give the day time menu another shot. read more

Thought it is a new Hong Kong restaurant place so gave it a try - but it definitely is the same as the other one called "cha chaan tang" which closed down lol. The satay beef noodle tasted exactly the same (and I am still bothered that they put spring onion on it) - the broth is a bit unflavourful and the noodle a bit soggy, but overall not too bad. The pineapple bun is surprisingly good though with crunchy top and fluffy bun - could be a bit hotter so the butter can melt a bit more though. read more

This place used to be called "Cha Chan Tang" but it's now called "Cha Kee" and has a noticeably different menu. I loved Cha Chan Tang and thought it would be fun to go back there dinner on my first night in NYC. Cha kee is a more different vibe and much more catered to the New York dining establishment than its predecessor. Cha Kee didn't really have any classic Cantonese style foods for dinner and what they did have, was not what I would consider "cha Kee" food. I ordered the Dan Dan mían and the waiter served it to the table sitting next to me, so I ended up waiting a REALLY long time for my noodles. It's okay, the food came to me eventually. They also brought me some crispy bok choy to make up for my wait time. The vibe is really aesthetically pleasing with tons and tons of monstera leaves and a cool lighting fixture in the center. But it's RLY different than Cha Chan Tang and I was quite disappointed in the change. I will be going to KST around the corner! read more

I came here on a weekday at 4:15 but had to order really fast because the servers let us know that the kitchen closes at 4:30. During the afternoon, they serve Hong Kong styled food. I guess they serve a different menu at night because the menu on their website is completely different. There are QR codes on each table that you scan and then you place your order online. I guess since we came in so late, they placed the bill right on our table after we placed our order. The food came out really fast, within 10 minutes. We got the fried chicken wings, minced beef on rice with fried egg, ham and cheese spaghetti with cream sauce, and HK styled milk tea. I was surprised that the cheese on the spaghetti was literally a slice of american cheese but cut up, but it was good. Service was fast, but it was probably because they wanted us to leave. I was a patron since they used to be Cha Chan Tang next door. The decor is great - modern and sleek. It resembled a hotel lobby lounge feel with an open kitchen. The menu scan code lets you also order directly so that's convenient. However, the service just didn't meet standard expectations. The staff was polite when we were able to flag them down, but they weren't very attentive. You would imagine that the self-ordering app would alleviate their bandwidth, but we waited a good 10 minutes to get our check and about lost patience that I walked up to the cashier myself to pay the bill. Raising the ambiance and the price bar also raised my expectations on food quality. I ordered 3 items: xo steam rice noodles, baked pork chop over rice and milk tea. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with 2 out of 3. The xo steam rice noodles tasted as if they just scooped the xo sauce on top of the steam rice noodles, something that I could have done at home. The portion for baked pork over rice looked like it belonged on the kids' menu. The sauce was flavorful, but it came with one slice of pork chop. And of that one slice, I spent most of the time navigating around the pork fat, trying to hunt for a actual meat, which was less than half of the chop. I want to support, but there's just much room for improvements. I was a big fan of Cha Chan Tang, but I'm quite disappointed with the new spin. read more

We were happily surprised with their fun interpretations with many different styles of food that left with every plate fully savored and enjoyed. Can't speak to the food, but we popped in because we saw an espresso machine. We were charged $27 for 4 single espresso shots. Even by NYC standards, that's obviously ridiculous. Their menu prices showed a lot lower, but the man pushed some buttons on his iPad without transparency and when questioned blamed it on the 3.5% CC tax. Which means without that it's $26.05 for 4 espresso shots or $6.51 each! I don't know if I've ever paid half of that for one despite frequenting some of the world's most expensive cities, and I strongly believe it was just deception to charge us more. read more

This review has nothing to do with the dinner, which I'm sure is as lovely and delicious as everyone says it is. It's more about this being a gigantic bait-and-switch prior to the dinner menu coming on line. I didn't understand until I'd already spent 30 minutes waiting in a completely unattended line, but there are two different restaurants occupying the same space. There is one that has gotten rave reviews from various outlets that starts at dinner time. Then there is the one that I just ate at, which is a pretty standard Cantonese restaurant serving decently cheap fare. Both go under the name Cha Kee. I wouldn't ordinarily give this a one star review - the Canto spot isn't bad by its own lights. But it's pretty frustrating to realize you just waited a long time in line for what you thought was going to be a high quality, imaginative meal, only to find out you're eating at the equivalent of a McDonald's instead. read more

The food was overall very good. Everything was well seasoned. The taste of the cheese and sauce on the Brussel sprouts were there, but the dish itself is too salty at times. The Garlic bread was very soft and tasted well with the tomato sauce that accompanied it, it just had too much cheese on it. The Spicy Wings weren't really spicy but were well seasoned. They were big, crispy, and juicy, and having all three of those combined is a hard thing to do. They were served with chips which tasted fine and ranch which helped cool down the wings as they stayed hot for a while. The fried rice wasn't anything speacial, tasted like any generic fried rice. The Beef Pho had great taste to it, a lot of MSG was added though. There was a good amount of broth and noodles. The Bone Marrow was a great add with it's soft meat. It looked like there was only one server working but he was doing an amazing job. He kept up with all the customers as the place was getting packed. The place was big and could fit a lot of people, I give it to him that he kept up with everyone. All in all the food was great and the service was amazing, I would love to come back and try their breakfast and lunch menus. read more

This a review of their day time menu/service. Overall probably one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. Toast with Peanut Butter & Condensed milk - probably the best thing I had. Chopped shiso in the included fruit salad was a nice touch. Curry Brisket on Rice - Giant pieces of ginger, like 1/2 inch thick, 1 1/2 inch in diameter, mostly potatoes, and carrots, no actual brisket, except the connective tissue, which I would be okay with if they braised it longer than half an hour. Some fork tender brisket and tendons would be nice. A well executed version can be had down the street at Noodle Village. Service - why is everyone here so mad? Why is the menu in 6 pt font, single spaced, and has over a 100 items? Why is the chef wearing Beats and instagramming the evening specials instead of overseeing the kitchen? Really appreciated the ambiance and elevated fare at this cute Chinatown restaurant. The Dan Dan Noodles, Gyoza and mushroom fried rice are all musts. The soy milk braised romaine was a first time experience for me and one I'd gladly try again. The creamy, crunchy and slightly spicy depth of this dish was really interesting. Service was friendly and the bill was affordable -- 6 of us ate for under $150. Don't really know how to rate this but figured a three star is in the middle. Came in but Did not eat here. I was told that cha chan tang had moved here. Imagine my surprise when I saw the menus revamped and nothing like it used to be. I think this place is catering to more high end pricing. They used to have baked pork chop rice for 8 bucks . The current menu has a branzino for 26 dollars. Just posting this so other fans of the cha chan tang realize their dinner menu is totally different from the prior cha chan tang. Buyer be warned. I am so happy they renovated because the seating arrangement is so much cleaner and they have a lot more space now. I'm continually a fan of their full day menu and drinks. This is not your standard Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Can here for dinner and was really pleasantly surprised. In my opinion, Chef Akiko makes a bold attempt to elevate very traditional, standard dishes found throughout Chinatown through the selection of ingredients, preparation, and presentation. Not to say that standard Cantonese dishes are bad or pedestrian - they have a very special place in my heart, my palette, and my stomach. However, I think there is a desperate need to make people recognize that Chinese food is more than $5 pork fried rice and chow fun. Anyway, philosophical kudos aside, Chef Akiko makes some seriously good food. I was always a fan of the jelly fish in the middle of the cold cut platter at Cantonese banquets, but change that up a little bit and give it a ma-la twist... *chef's kiss* The pork jowl sweet and sour pork was nicely fried and the meat was soft and packed with flavor. The shrimp was worth getting your hands dirty for... and I hate eating with my fingers. This experience kinda reminds me of eating at Mr. Jiu's in San Francisco... with a more relaxed ambiance. If you're looking to switch up your Chinatown experience and try Chinese food taken up a notch, I would recommend giving Cha Kee a shot. You won't regret it. read more

Breakfast was okay at best. Came over on a quiet Friday and we ordered off the breakfast menu. I did notice that other patrons have stuff at their tables that weren't a part of the breakfast menu so who knows if you can order off menu... The sitcky rice and soy sauce noodles were subpar. There was barely rice and the noodles were broken up as if I had the bottom of the bag of noodles so they're all bits instead of strands. New restaurant, staff really nice and friendly but still figuring out how to do things. Dishes are on the small side and meant to be shared. Started with pork and chive gyoza which were good, not great. Super deep fried. Then we had pork cheek and Jowls which were very good, nice and crispy on the outside, not fatty, really tasty. Then we had Dan-Dan noodles, also very good, had a nice meat sauce and good spice. Then we had lobster and uni fried rice. Definitely much less crazy about this dish. Did not taste much (if any) lobster, and Uni just has a strange consistency in this dish. Not a fan of this. I LOVED this place. Very good and creative Chinese food. A lil more schmancy than is typical of the neighborhood but great flavor, inspired combos. Loved, loved, loved it and will be back. This is what my group tried: Jellyfish salad -- I ate this so my friends didn't think I was a wuss. It's an interesting texture and was pretty good. Get it so that you can say that you did. Chicken wings -- amazebalz I will be dreaming of these forever, maybe my favorite chicken wing of all time. Dan dan noodles -- yes definitely get this. Fried rice with uni and lobster -- omg so delicious. Sweet and sour pork jowl and belly -- super good and interesting, will 100% order this again. Macao curry chicken -- this was written up by the Times, and it was beautifully cooked and well presented but for me the flavor wasn't as interesting as the other stuff so I would skip in the future. I was so excited to eat HK style breakfast. But this place was just alright. Cash only! They sat 4 of us at the table in the back corner where it's half lit. The food serving was quite small. We order breakfast set B and H. I noticed other tables when they walked in that they were offered water with actual cups. All of our food arrived and when we were almost done eating we finally got our drinks. Not sure why they gave us disposable cups for our coffee and lemon tea. As other tables had actual metal cups for water and coffee type mugs. Overall I give this a C. read more

Haven't revisited this for more than a year and a lot have been changed. The milk tea is still legit but the quality of the rest of my favorite items like butter pineapple bun and the beef instant noodle are down the hills. The butter oil bun still served crispy but the thick layer of butter were gone, instead it was just looking like bring spread on instead. As for the beef noodle, the sunny up egg done well, the soup base I have no issue with, but the beef was dry like wood taste texture, very dissatisfying! And for the service, I gave the the minium 15% for self phone order, rushed twice for clearing my table when more sits were still available, and one of there male staff with no positive gratitude and a cold attitude.
