The smell of the restaurant reeks like dumpster when you have to roll down your window and the walls and doors are a disgusting sight. Ordered fajitas and all the fixings, rice, beans, tortillas and fried papas. Well the steakhouse beef fajitas are NOT WORTH the extra charge. We got thinly cut beef that was OVER SEASONED AND SALTY. The drive thru order was badly packaged as the containers were placed badly and leaked all over making the different bags tear when unpackaged. So here we go.... Steakhouse fajitas are a JOKE, over seasoned and barely cooked, rice and beans are passable if you have never had good Mexican food. Guacamole is overpowered by onion and gross, I did not even eat the soggy looking enchiladas that we ordered. Yucky and nasty I should have stuck to my guns and told my old man to go to Las Palapas. Chachos food is great when you're drunk off your ass otherwise it's shit. It had been a while since we got food from Chachos and we went cuz the hubby recently gotten over covid, I still have all my taste buds though and it was not worth it. This is the averaging out of two trips to this location. The first visit was pretty good--a 3.5 star visit. The food portions were generous and left me full with two tacos. I was also happy about the free chips and salsa bar. The margarita was good and the environment was solid. The next visit was terrible. We walked right up to the register, but no one was there to take the order. There were people working there, but no one who acknowledged our presence. We finally flagged someone down, who only said that the guy would be there shortly. Well, that took 7 total minutes. I should have walked out. The food was just okay this time. The salsa bar was scraped bare (it was 10 am on a Saturday) and every other table was dirty. No one was bussing tables and it just felt gross. The restroom was dirty. There was no soap and no hand sanitizer. I miiiight try one more time, given that the brisket tacos were so surprisingly good. read more

OMG! There is so much material to work with for a Chacho's review it's a shame to only be able to write one. Chacho's has been with us since the mid-80's and has 80's fried into its core. Back in the old days Chacho's was the alternative to Sombrero Rosa, and a place you could reasonably expect to get shot late on a Saturday night. This place was built for two things: a late night feasting palace for the drunks that didn't score to go stuff themselves after the bars closed, and a next day recovery feast for the hungover. It did these things well. Today the place is run down, the floors are un-level and frequently sticky, the tables wobble because they are old and because of the floor, there are patch-fixes everywhere, it frequently stinks of stale beer, and the crowd can be kind of rough... ...but the food kicks ass. 35 years of accumulated flavors have built up on the vent hoods and have permeated the very foundation itself. There's a little bit of 1985-2019 in every bite. The most incredible nachos ever to touch the lips of mankind. Brisket nachos are where it's at. I think Chacho's food has actually gotten better over the years as those flavors have accumulated. Now, I couldn't help reading the one-star review below of a sad vegetarian who somehow thought that Chacho's was a good idea for them. I assure you, it is not. If you're a tofu-fartin' vegetarian, stay away. Chacho's does meat and cheese, on everything. When this patron announced "We're vegetarian!", the proper thing for the Chacho's staff would have been to tell them to go elsewhere. "We are not for you..." Uh, re-fried beans are made with LARD you know? That's why they're way tastier than just mashed up beans. One look at the Chacho's crowd should tell you that vegetarians don't go there. There are no "Light Options" on the menu. You will get fat if you are a Chacho's regular, and if you are fat, you probably are a Chacho's regular already. Accept Chacho's for what it is and don't think you're going to motivate the owners to do something different after all these years. Despite some bad reviews, they still pack in the crowds and that's not changing. The food is great, but it is heavy. Maybe a once a week, or once a month kind of place. Just know and understand what you're in for and adjust your expectations accordingly BEFORE you walk in. But then, I kind of doubt many people are consulting Yelp prior to a visit to Chacho's. read more

Me and a couple of friends went to the Chacho's off I 10 and Callaghan at about 5pm on a Saturday. It was moderately busy but we were able to find seating right away. We ordered our food and half or the order came out with in 5 mins. The other half took an addition 10 mins to come out. On looking at the 2nd half of the order we noticed it was wrong. Instead of brisket we had beef fajita on the nachos and it was missing a few items. We notifed the kitchen staff and we received a lots of attitude and resistance form the staff. They agreed to fix the order but was not happy about doing so. It took an addition 10 mins for the correct order to come out. I approached the counter for a refill of my soda and was yelled at by the Chacho's staff for going to the wrong counter. The restraraunt it self is pretty basic. Tables and chairs not frills which is fine. But the floors were wet and slippery in many areas and no one was tending to this. For customer service and cleanliness Chacho's need lots of work. The service we receive was really bad. The food how ever was good and the prices and portion sizes were ample. Chacho's you have great food for great prices, but your horrible customer service will make me think twice about returning. read more

This is my favorite steak fajita. The steakhouse beef fajita keeps me coming back. I had a taco shell salad. There is definitely a lot of flavor but I didn't like the bowl was broken like a peeled back orange. The chicken tortilla was packed with flavor and was a perfect size. Not too small or big! It was my first time eating inside. Had a self serve chips and salsa area. The windows/doors open up for a nice day. Probably won't eat inside again but will be back for drive thru! read more

Visit Date: 12.14.2019 I am a huge Chacho's fan because generally the food is good and they give you great portion sizes at an incredibly reasonable price. This day was a good day. The food was amazing. My previous trip to a different location didn't go so well. I highly recommend the shredded chicken puffy taco. Yes...yes...and a little more yesssss! So good! This poor chap at the table next to me ordered a whole burrito and had no idea what he was in for. Of course the puny man couldn't finish it - It's a meal for 2 :). LOL. Where they can definitely improve is in cleanliness and service. This location has free chips and salsa station available for paying patrons. That would be great if the actually kept chips in there. There was a lady that worked there that basically ignored peoples request for chips for over 20 minutes. She had super IDGAF attitude and was just an all-around a nasty person as she walked back and forth half cleaning tables and stacking dishes ignoring patrons. Anytime we're in SA we make sure to come to a Chacho's. Last summer we went and dining in was not an option and a whole year later dining in was STILL not an option. The nachos and puffy tacos are just soggy when we get back to our hotel or air bnb. The quality and experience just isn't there with this take out option. When will construction be done? This place has potential but management needs to step it up. They know how busy they get on the weekends yet they fail to plan for it and it shows in the customer experience. Every weekend the place gets packed and every weekend they run out of salsas on the salsa bar, you never know if you're going to get a full plate of food or half because they ran out of eggs or potatoes, they may or may not have butter for your tortillas or pancakes. Your refried beans may be running all over your plate or it may be a cold lump they scraped off the bottom of the pot. It's a total shot in the dark if you're going to have a good meal or not. One thing you can count on is visually irritated food runners screaming in customer faces for "Batman!!!" or "Sleeping Beauty!!!" How about you turn off the blaring jukebox during peak times instead? Better yet, get a speaker system or monitors so people know when their food is ready? Lastly, how about hiring employees that look like they actually enjoy serving customers? If I ever walked into this place and saw a pleasant, joyful, helpful or happy employee I'd probably run outside to check the sign to make sure I was in the right place. Seriously, prep enough food for your shifts, hire happy people and use some common sense practices. None of that costs a dime more than what you're currently doing and it will help your customer experience that feeds your revenue growth. This place was DISGUSTING! We sat on the patio, and there were pigeons and crows EVERYWHERE, picking off the leftover trays. They were pooping all over the place. GROSS. We got two tortas (without cheese) which were SMOTHERED in cheese. And a shredded chicken taco. I swear the slimy chicken was from a can (I hope, otherwise Eeewww how old is that?!) Went thru drive in last night about 9. Order was fairly simple, enchilada plate and some a la carte items. First go through, enchilada plate was missing from order. Go through drive through again, 90 seconds later. Tell them, politely, that ench. Plate is missing. Get argument from server over speaker. Woman server walks out from side door, very disconcerting, extremely beligerent, and demands to see our order and receipt. After searching the bag, and identifying food, she snaps, "I owe you an enchilada plate!" , which is what I told her at the window. "With ranchera sauce instead of chile gravy." , I reply. " The second time through, they put chile gravy on the enchiladas, instead of the ranchera sauce I had ordered. Go through the drive through a third time, get argument at the speaker again, woman comes out side door again, just about spittin' mad, raising her voice, and demands to see food, says, "That's chile gravy!.", which is what I had been trying to tell her. So three trips through the drive through, and being yelled at and treated like a thief, to get an enchilada plate. I realize you are busy, everyone's short staffed, etc, but you'd be a lot less busy if it didn't take three trips through the drive through for one order! The sad thing is their food is pretty good. Much better than TC for 24 hr Mexican. TRAIN YOUR DRIVE THROUGH PEOPLE TO CHECK ORDERS BEFORE THEY GO OUT. I have a love hate relationship with Chacho's. I love the variety of Tex-mex food, I love the cheap food and big proportions, and I love the strong drinks. I don't love the facilities--I think this location was sited for having unclean environment by a food inspector. I typically take my food to go. In addition the crowd can be a bit rough later in the evening if you choose to dine in, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. If you want to order one thing, make sure you try the monster nachos. almost anything advertised as positive here including the health and food safety scores is almost never accurate. at all. ever in the entire history of chachos. this place is a hit one day and a miss the next. just because you have a great experience one day you can guaranteed the next time you come here it will be almost nothing like it was before. that one or very few times you actually had a good experience here will only serve as a reminder of how great chachos was or could be if they ever decide to get their crap together and keep it that way. I would honestly only recommend coming here at least once a month because the more often you come here the more likely you are going to be subjected to something or someone horrible and you will regret ever setting foot in any chachos location. almost everyone who works at chachos hates their lives and the working conditions are no different than working in a coal mine other than the change of scenery. almost everyone who works at chachos is a mindless restaurant zombie who hates interacting with the public almost every time and if not every single time because they ironically are anti-social employees who work in a social business and they chose a job that does nothing but interact with people they dont want to talk to in any way. that and they hate their lives and take it out on the customers with crappy service, food, and drinks. but sometimes once every full moon when the clouds have parted away from the nightly sky and the stars align properly you will get great customer service, great food and drinks out of this place because they all decided to away put all their problems aside for the day and for the sake of great business to give you a great experience that you can take back home with you to share with everyone who will listen. read more

This is indeed my fav location in SA- cleaner than the Perrin location- and its around the corner from my sisters house. The other great thing is it is open 24 hours a day.. Think of Taco Cabana but with WAY better food. Yeah- there is a funny smell.. but it goes away once you have been in there a few minutes. The very first thing you will notice is the bar on the right- try the frozen jack and Coke- and that's not a typo! Then you will see the salsa bar in all its glory- i like mixing them to get the flavor and heat I'm in the mood for that day. Last is the crown jewel- the sweet little lady's making the tortillas and gorditas by hand.. JACK POT! I don't care if the place smells like rotting feet.. if they are making the tortillas by hand I'm all over it! I have a place in my heart for the puffy tacos thanks to my loving father whom was raised in SA on the local delicacy. Don't let the prices fool you- the portions are huge. My fella's brother brought us out here when we were visiting San Antonio for the weekend. I was dying to try the Monster Nachos, but the guys weren't optimistic we would finish it, since the portions are enormous. We instead tried the half order, which we devoured with gusto. The queso dip is great. Next time I'm in town, I'll be getting my nachos smothered in that!!! The salsa bar was phenomenal too. This is one of my favorite fast food places. So why only 3 stars? Their food is a mixed bag. I LOVE their taco salad with chicken fajita. Very large and the chicken is delish. However, I can't be as positive about other menu items. I dislike their cheese enchiladas. I found them oddly sweet. Their crunchy, picadillo tacos are just OK. Again, a touch sweet but it wasn't as odd here because the spicy picante offset the sweet. One of my tacos was so greasy that I ended up dumping it out onto the plate and eating it with a fork. The other tacos was stuffed so full it was hard to eat with my hands. But they were tasty. They also have one of the best b'fast tacos in town...potato and egg. Ever since I moved to San Antonio, I've heard people raving about Chacho's and how great their food is. After numerous people at work encouraged us to go, a coworker and I decided to give it a try. So, one day when the boss was out for a long meeting, we popped over. Chacho's looks pretty much like a typical fast food restaurant from the outside, but the inside is actually quite large. I got a pretty basic dish, enchiladas, but was wowed by the sheer enormity of my plate. My refried beans alone probably could have been enough to fill me up. I also liked that they had a buffet style area with fresh topping and different varieties of salsa, like a cilantro one that was incredibly tasty. On several nights of the week, they have bands or karaoke, which I imagine could be fun to watch for about 15 minutes or so (not a huge karaoke fan, my friends). My coworker said they have great margaritas, but as we were going back to work, she didn't indulge. Given the sheer size of the restaurant, the line was a little chaotic, but we got through in a reasonable amount of time. We opted for seated in an area with lots of window for some breathing room. I wasn't disappointed by Chacho's and their prices were great. I wouldn't mind going again, but I haven't made it a priority. read more

I visit chachos from time to time but this particular last visit wasn't a really pleasant one. The cashier was a middle aged woman and she was relatively rude. She didn't bother to engage in eye contact, which made me feel incredibly awkward to say the least. I asked her if the large chicken fajita nachos would be big enough for my family of 4 (it was) which resulted in her insisting I order their Monster Kong nachos vs the fajita nachos. SHE COMPLETELY avoided the question at hand... this was frustrating as the Kong nachos include ALL meats they have available. That wasn't what we wanted. If you have employees that are genuinely TUNED IN / LISTENING to what it is customers are SAYING/ASKING, you can avoid situations that frustrate all parties. Chachos ought to reevaluate some of the people working the night shifts. The food took forever to come out which frustrated me even further. I was displeased upon the arrival of my,'chicken nachos' because it was mainly all cheese and beans. I had to go back to the food line and ask if I could get chicken as that's what I had paid for. Overall rough place to eat at night. As mentioned before, I visit during the day and it's always been great. PSA: you will have to wipe down your own table. So get ready to clock in. I was introduced to the glory that is Chacho's back in 2010, shortly after I graduated from college. My friend lived around the corner and this was our spot for late night eats after I drove down to San Antonio for weekend visits. Six years later, this place is still a must for whenever I visit San Antonio. Now, I must say, Chacho's is not your fancy dining place like a number of restaurants downtown. But I'm not that kind of girl. I'm down for good old Tex Mex that's reasonably priced with a variety of drinks. Chacho's is that place. Their nachos are my absolute favorite of all time and they have the option of melted cheese or queso. Being the queso lover that I am, I chose queso. Sooo very good. The nachos also came with guacamole and sour cream. Sweet. For those of you Jack and coke lovers, they have frozen Jack and coke. I've not tried it but I've heard that it's pretty tasty. My personal favorites are the frozen margaritas (which are really strong) and the frozen piña coladas. Off the beaten path (somewhat), this Chacho's is a longtime San Antonio favorite of mine. If you prefer cool restaurants, fine dining, or the type of service characteristic of a restaurant with hostesses and a maitre'd, this may not be the spot for you. But if you like reasonably priced Tex Mex, a nice salsa bar, and some killer frozen drinks then come on to Chacho's. read more

This place has gone to trash since the pandemic.... The staff is sloppy and unprofessional, making jokes while taking my order(beef fajita nachos) screwing it up in the process. After receiving the wrong order I sent it back thinking this time is was going to be right. I decided to drive home finding queso not even cheese poured all over my nachos. It was a soggy nasty mess. Love this place, good food, good drinks. There have been changes due to COVID 19, I can understand the need. My husband & I walked in to place our order. My husband had his mask down but was quickly told by an employee that he had to pull his mask up. Sorry, our bad. BUT, they had a worker, working the front line, preparing food (red mask), who clearly had her mask covering her chin! Really? Ur gonna call out your customers but not your own employees??? And I stood there and waited to see if she would fix it (she did not). I asked why she was above the mask restrictions, but I was ignored.
