    Birria papusas

I've been wanting to try Chalateco for their papusas for a long time now. This weekend was the perfect chance. Parking was easy right in front and there was plenty of places to sit. We sat facing one of their big TVs playing football . Our eyes were DEFINITELY bigger than our stomachs but the leftovers the next day were delicious. We order the large platter to share, a HUGE michelada with a 32 oz modelo in it, a pastor papusa and the birria papusas. The server was encouraging us despite knowing we'd ordered way too much. She was super attentive always offering more chips or extras sauces. As we sat more and more people started to grab and table. So it was lively but not loud. We'll definitely be back to try more.

Came here for dinner to catch up with a friend. She loves this place, and vouched for this, while this was my first time. I had a chalafajita, which was very filling and fresh, and a great source of protein with beef and shrimp. Great hole in the wall for delicious Salvadoran and Mexican food.

I have been to their Mountain View location and absolutely love the taco Tuesday deal. You can order five tacos for $10! That's an insanely great deal and so hard to find nowadays in the South Bay. I love the fact that there's a location which closer to me that I can dig in right off Camden Avenue. They offer 10 different protein options and if you don't know the names of the meats, you can just ask the staff and they can tell you which one is which. My favorites are the carne asada which is the steak and the al pastor which is the marinated pork. Both comes loaded with lots of meat, onions, cilantro and some limes. They also bring out chips and different salsas to dip. It's a no frills place and that even offer a $10 burrito deal on Mondays which I haven't tried yet. I will definitely be coming back for their Taco Tuesday deals and I absolutely love tacos!

    Shrimp Ceviche

My go to meals here are the Ceviches, Papusas & Tacos... Always flavorful and served with great presentation which is always appreciated! It's not just for looks, the food tastes fantastic and I feel like it gets better and better every time we dine here. On this day I had the shrimp ceviche and it was made perfectly! Lots of flavor, topped with fresh avacado with a side of lime, chips and crackers make it perfect! Everything fresh, fresh, fresh! If you're on this side of town (Camden & Union in San Jose) stop in for a great meal and friendly service! We will be back!

    Torta (carne asada) small

Small hole in the wall, staff is always friendly. My go to is their torta with carne asada. I've been on a mission to find the best torta in San Jose; and so far I haven't found any place that beats this! It's so big and the bread is soft and it always has the right amount of spice and flavor. I haven't tried anything else; but for tortas- they can't be beat

We ordered the carne asada, tripa, pollo, and chorizo. My favorite was the tripe, then the carne asada, then chorizo and chicken, in that order. The tripe was so good! Next time I'd love to try the lengua and cabeza and al pastor. The tacos are 5 for $10 on Tuesdays so I recommend you come on Tuesday if you want tacos. There is indoor seating and a couple outdoor tables as well. They also currently have someone cooking outside. The food come with complimentary chips and salsa. The tacos came with onion and cilantro on top, and the sides of grilled onion, lime, cucumber, and radish. My only gripe was that the floor was pretty dirty with trash on the floor - napkins, water bottles, wrappers, etc, and was not being cleaned. The menus also were a little sticky/worn and have no prices on them, so it's difficult to order if I don't know how much stuff is.

How sad this place has a great food but the service is terrible chips and salsa is leaking out of cup Manager of this place need to training their employees how to take a care of their customers 7-21-25 10:40 am I was trying to order hot chocolate and burrito I ask nicely question how is your hot chocolate ? Quesabirria Tacos so Yummy
    Sunnyvale Review S.

Walked in for a late lunch yesterday around 4pm. They had menu's stacked on the counter and the first thing I noticed was their menu was very large. The second thing I noticed was that their menu's had no prices. It took quite a long time to decide what to have for lunch. I finally pulled the trigger on their Quesabirria taco's. I sat in their dining room which was very clean and was brought chips, salsa, and a water while I waited. The food was so delicious. If You have never had these, they are cheese fried tacos with a generous amount of cheese and meat in each taco. The dipping sauce along with the orange-colored sauce provided was delicious. I would highly recommend this dish and will plan to go back soon. 5 stars for presentation & staff. Thank you ...

I tried the popular baleada, which is a home-made flour tortilla filled with a layer of mashed red beans, queso fresco, eggs and with or without meat (I got it with carne asada). The flour tortilla was just as other described - soft, buttery smooth, almost melt in your mouth goodness. The carne asada was dry and hard so I could've gone without. I bet a braised beef like barbacoa would've been perfect for this item. It also came with salsa and I selected mild which gave it a nice bright flavor. I also ordered a chicken tamale (they also offer pork) and I was surprised to find a whole chicken wing (no skin) stuffed into the tamale! I broke into it using a fork and hit something hard which turned out to be the bones. But honestly, this was one of the best tamales I've tried in a long time. Flavorful, moist, and a nice sized portion. It came wrapped in what I think was banana leaf. The service was fast on a Wednesday night and there were a handful of friendly patrons seated nearby. You could tell that they were regulars. The space was intimate with around 10-15 tables seating about 4 people each. Maya's Cafe menu has a wide assortment of dishes to choose from: serving breakfast dishes like chilaquiles, lunch items such as burritos, or soups and full on dinner plates with rice, beans, and choice of protein. There's even more selection and the whole menu is in Spanish so I'll be sure to use Google Translate next time!

The food truck is parked in a gravel driveway/parking "lot". Look for the tall billowing sign boasting "Pupusas" and three flags along the fence. My curiosity finally got the best of me when I saw a stand-up sandwich sign on the street saying, "Open Now". We drove in and parked behind the food truck although you can park on the street. We were handed a menu and were told "Solo pupusas". I suppose they offer other items in other locations, but I was fine just trying a pupusa, having never enjoyed one before. We ordered two carne asada w/cheese pupusas, $4 each. I paid with cash. The young lady had to dig into her purse for change. LOL I tipped the change into the tip jar. They have some tables and chairs under a canopy to wait or dine. There is also a portable sink to wash your hands and a porta potty nearby. It took maybe 10 minutes to get our order, as these are made-to-order. Our to-go order was really hot and came with a bag of ice-cold tomato salsa and a bag of slaw, (which I later learned is curtido.) Since this was the first time trying a pupusa before, we had no idea how to eat it and what to do with the curtido and salsa. Eventually we figured it out but no matter how we ate them, these pupusas were delicious!!! Will we go back! Absolutely!!!

My family liked them, but they said they weren't the best. For the price, they were okay. A little smaller than what we're used to. The only bad thing I could say is they didn't like the cheese. They said it wasn't the same kind of cheese, and the meat wasn't very seasoned. Other than that, they're pretty decent. I probably won't go back again, but they're not bad. Just, they're not just what we're used to. A little bit more flavor, a little cheesier. Not as much filling as we're used to. Being from El Salvador, I just have a certain expectation of food specially Pupusas.

I thought it would be hard to search Mexican restaurants one by one to pick out the ones that serve empanadas; I was wrong. One easy search and BAE pops up. I was very happy to arrive at a private parking lot instead of looking for street parking or desperately searching for a parking structure. BAE is clean, organized, and neat; the interior is more like a cafe than a messy mom-and-pop restaurant. The empanadas are clearly displayed on the cashier's side, each with a label underneath. There are corners decorated for selfies or simply a good mood cheering. Overall, it's visually appealing. We ordered the Chicken and Mushroom, Potato Egg and Cheese, and Bacon Egg and Cheese. The cashier was polite and offered us some sauce choices. They are $0.5 each. We chose Tsatziki which has Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, olive oil and dill. It wasn't our cup of tea. We chose take out and each empanada was nicely warmed, wrapped and clearly labeled in each paper. The empanadas I would rate them in this order: potato egg and cheese, chicken mushroom, bacon egg and cheese. The Potato Egg and Cheese has diced onions inside, but it's soft and warm, very balanced in flavor and texture. Top notch comfort food. The Chicken and Mushroom filling was creamier than I thought. I was not expecting a white cream cheese element in it, nevertheless, chunky chicken and mushroom slices are solid. I was most disappointed at Bacon Egg and Cheese. It was too salty and the egg looked and tasted like those overcooked dry breakfast eggs from Comfort Inn breakfast where it came out from some kind of liquid egg box. In summary, location, service, interior 4 star; food 3.5 stars.
