We tried this restaurant by chance. It's not often that I am impressed with authentic Mexican food, but this place literally blew me away. The food is AMAZING and fresh - and I'm so happy they have blue corn. Did I mention they make their tortillas when you order. Been here twice in one week and already looking forward to coming back. This is my 2nd time here and I've enjoyed the revuelta papusas both times. I brought family this time and each of us had the papusas except my son who had the fajitas. He said the meat was good. I also liked the horchata. Free chips and salsa. Service was good. They had a soccer game on multiple tvs and music (a little too loud). We paid about $60 for 8 papusas, steak fajitas and a horchata. Went here for the first time yesterday as this restaurant just opened 3 days ago. The service is top notch, and food is outstanding. Parking was easy. It's on the corner of Union & Camden. The only downfall is (a) they don't except credit cards (cash only), which was a pain as I had to make a special trip to the bank, (b) food took 25 minutes (hopefully they will get the kinks out) and shave the time down to 10/15 minute, (c) they can invest in some nice wood tables instead of the cheesy dozen plastic folding tables from Costco which are on display. If they can tweak the inside eating decor it will enhance the ambiance. I will next time come prepare with cash so I don't have to make a special trip to the ATM, and I will call in my order to save me time instead of waiting the 25 minutes, but all-in-all I will be back based on the quality of food, great service, big menu with many choices to pick from, and reasonable prices. read more

From the outside this place doesn't look so hot but we decided to try it out today the food was amazing. The steak nachos are the best I have had in this area the pork she's in being pupusa was so tasty a great size. The portions were huge very impressed with the food. The menus don't have prices. That's annoying because prices help to know how big a meal is going to be, and of course so I can budget. But I get that prices fluctuate and so they don't put the prices. But what's not okay is charging a CRAZY amount for something small without notice. I got a side of guacamole with my tacos. I looked at the bill and thought it must be a mistake. $8 for a size of tacos. Charging someone THAT much without telling them the price is not okay. I work in the food service industry so I didn't say anything to the server, but I need the manager to know that this is NOT OKAY. I'm honestly pissed. read more

My wife and I came over about a little over lunch time to check out their new branch. My wife is little excited hoping there's a new taco place added in our goto place, but we were disappointed with the food quality. We ordered tacos two of each like pastor, asada and suadero. Meat is very dry especially the asada and pastor. No grilled onions? Yeah no grilled onions on the side. The serving is quite small for the price. First impressions does really matter and It will take sometime and a lot of convincing myself to return. read more

If you're looking for a burrito try another place! 5/10 no flavor and I'm surprised with all the stuff on it still not hitting right

No fresh salsa, instead they bring something like tomato sauce with cilantro chopped in. The salsa rosa lacked any characteristic smokiness. It's all grocery store quality, as are the round tortilla chips that don't fit into the tiny to-go plastic cups. There is no salsa bar. No squeeze bottles. Everything comes in those insufficient little cups. Don't the servers ever get tired of hearing customers ask for another thimble of salsa? There are no prices (!) on the confusing menu. When asked about that, they pointed to a QR code on the bottom corner that we could scan. The seat back supports, where they connect to the seat bottom, dig into sides of your butt, forcing you to sit forward to escape the growing discomfort. Our taco's asada meat was under seasoned, we detected only salt. It had melted cheese and and was okay overall and the portion was reasonable. But this place is amateurish and uncompetitive with the nearby Burrito Factory, amongst several others. It's new, so there's hope they'll make the necessary upgrades and changes as time allows to help them stay in business. read more

First, the place is pretty messy. It was Sunday afternoon and maybe bcuz it's family time and many of their clientele's were families/groups. Secondly, their menu is full of mystery, no prices at all! Be careful here! It's looks fishy. And the service is very poor and sloppy. Their salsa was douched with salt. Didn't enjoy our chips at all. We ordered 2 pupusas, 4 tacos Al Pastor, plantain with sour crème and beans, a beer and a guava juice flavor drink, all for $52 dollars! without the full disclosure of their prices/showing the price on their menu nor the breakdown of the receipts. Honest businesses should be glorified for their transparency but for this Restaurant, I'm a bit suspicious. Noticed too that most of their customers are Hispanics that maybe no one questioned their mysterious "no price" menu? I absolutely love the food at this restaurant. I know and love Salvadoran food and have sampled the cuisine at restaurants from San Salvador to Miami to the Mission in SF. The Pupusas at Chalateco was so delicious, the yucca con chicharonnes was cooked to perfection with the chicharrones crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside, the yucca crisp and perfect, and the plantains with frijoles and cream were absolutely heavenly. You must try this place! This is the perfect place for those who don't know much about Salvadoran food to try and enjoy, or for those who enjoy Salvadoran food cooked to perfection to get a taste of the old country. The family who owns the restaurant is so nice and accommodating. I'm really happy this place opened up near Campbell. read more

Food was ok but as others noted, the prices arent listed on their menu. Prepare for some sticker shock! This ain't not cheap taco truck place. The chips are lame factory made round ones that are super salty. Staff was friendly and answered questions. Unfortunately the service was super slow. Took almost 30 minutes to get out food! This was the very first time I ate at a Chalateco restaurant. I ordered 3 carne asada tacos at $3.75 each. They were so tiny with barely any meat, but freshly made. I have ordered tacos everywhere, all my life, and felt these were way too expensive for the tiny size. I was still hungry and could of easily ate 3 more. The bill was $12.38 and 3 more would have cost $25 for 6 tiny street tacos. I really wanted to try their Quesadilla Gus and a Pupusa, but they wouldn't let me order individual items to try different things.
