We've passed by Chalateco a handful of times and decided to stop by this past weekend and it was a wise decision! When we first walked in at 2pm on a Saturday it was pretty empty, maybe only 2 tables taken. We walked to the register and the hostess handed us a fairly extensive menu. Honestly, everything sounded great and I didn't know what I wanted, but eventually had to pick. What was ordered: + Carne asada taco - This wasn't too bad, but I think my entree really blew me away so I wasn't drawn to the taco as much. + Al pastor taco - There wasn't a lot of flavor to the al pastor. The meat was a bit on the dry side but decent overall. I really enjoy the tortillas they use for their tacos and their sauces were great as well. + Chicken enchilada - I LOVED THIS! I haven't had a whole bunch of enchiladas in my life but these were amazing. The chicken was cooked well and didn't taste dry and the green sauce was a perfect balance with the enchilada. The beans and rice, which simple, were great complements to the enchiladas. + Agua fresca - I opted for a guava flavor, which was super refreshing. The hostess was excellent, she was very patient with us as we perused the menu and brought over some complimentary chips and salsa! Their salsa was really good, we basically finished 2/3 of the chips before our food came because it was that addicting. The place started to fill up a bit more as we were heading out - seems like a great local place! Overall, I'd say their plates are the best items here. hmmmm i'm a bit conflicted about this place....i wouldnt say i really liked the food but i am open to trying other stuff again. we ordered a mega quesadilla with tripas, 2 asada tacos and 2 suadero tacos as well as 1 reveulta (pork, cheese and bean) pupusa. here are my list of likes and dislikes: Likes -clean restaurant -food taste clean and not greasy at all -corn tortillas Dislikes -corn chips taste like store bought -had to ask sauce and cabbage for pupusa -pupusa was good but the filling was sad, i couldn't even taste any pork, just saw very few sad strands -felt a bit rip off with my megaquesadilla, i should have taken a picture. but it was barely any tripas and cheese in there and felt like it wasn't really a "mega" quesadilla, what would be different from regular quesadilla size wise but it literally was jus a bunch of lettuce and sprinkles of cojita cheese with tripas...n add the green salsa in. i don't know if i'm missing something?? read more

If you can get past that, then here is what you need to know before visiting here: This is a legit true Mexican Food restaurant, no "Americanized Mexican", which in my eyes is a good thing. Service was substandard, had to track down waitress to ask for napkins, and more chips and second beer. I don't get this, but when I asked for a lime for my Corona was told they don't have any, and was then brought an oversized (mostly rind) lemon that wouldn't fit in the bottle. read more

I love the tacos here! We like to order Carne Asada and Carnitas Tacos majority of the time. The meat portions are generous and just falls out of the taco. Last time we tried the Costilla (Beef Rib) Tacos (pictured) and before that we got Al Pastor Tacos (not pictured). We typically order to-go but they always have fun and festive music playing inside. The staff wears masks and practices social distancing - overall great atmosphere. Even the tables inside are far from each other. Radish, cilantro, grilled onions and limes are included + sides of green and red sauce in condiment containers. read more

One of the better Mexican joints I've tried. I came in and asked what time they closed and the worker didn't respond he just said they're ere open and then said we close at 9pm tonight. Odd it seemed like he didn't know. I ordered guacamole and chips the guacamole was super delicious! The chips were not and came from a bag, mass produced and one of those salty brands from the store. I ordered huevos rancheros and this was also good and cooked fresh but not exactly what I ordered. They fried an egg, placed it on a tostada and then put red salsa on it. I'm not a stickler for interpretation but golly the pic definitely did not have this image. The food was good, customer service a bit odd. read more

Super good food! Ordered the mole and green sauce enchiladas and it was a huge plate, super yummy and well priced. We got that plus a shrimp cocktail and both got drinks plus the chips and salsa and our total was $50 which seems ok since both of our servings were pretty big! Great service, attentive and nice. Place smelled like cleaning products at first but probably because we came late so they were likely closing up. Overall tho, come by the food is delicious. My partner loves the breaded shrimp and I liked the fried fish last time too. read more

Overall I really like this place in regards to food, but today the service at this location was awful to say the least. I ordered enchiladas Suiza but wanted to substitute for shrimp. The waiter was like nope we don't do that they only come with chicken but he was willing to add cheese Inside the enchiladas. Huh? Why can you add cheese Inside but not shrimp? I was willing to pay extra. Then he took forever to place our order because he was talking with some people, dancing and just taking his sweet time. The food came out quick so kudos to the cooks but then the waiter didn't bring us the utensils nor napkins. We Asked for salsa and well that came later later. Came here with my friends last night (wednesday 8pm). Sign said wait to be seated but it didn't look to be the case so we seated ourselves. At first it seemed like we were being ignored, but in actuality the front of the house guy was running around like crazy; clearly somebody called out and he was just juggling extra tasks as best he could. My friends ordered chicken enchiladas and both of them Loooooved the mole sauce. It was incredible! I ordered sopes con tripas and a papas/chorizo pupusa--again, absolutely amazing! my friend loved my tripas so much she said she was gonna order it for herself next time. and TRUST, we will be coming again and again. The chefs on the grill were killing it. high Quality food coming out of that kitchen. Even their complimentary chips and salsa is phenomenal! There was not a single crumb or sauce left on our plates. I had to leave a review to say that Claudia was our server and she had the most pleasant demeanor and sincere smile. I placed and order of 6 pupusas, 1 order of chicken nuggets with fries, 2 fruit waters and 2 horchata waters. I requested a water cup holder to placed the 4 waters that I was holding with my two hands while my mom help me carry the food bags. On the way out of the restaurant the cup holder broke/ripped dropping one of the horchata waters. One of the cooks stated I was going to receive a new water without charge as it was not my fault, but the cashier Gaby stated I had to pay for the new horchata water as the waters were on my hands when the incident happened. The cashier was kind of rude since the beginning when my mom was asking for salsas since the cashier Gaby only gave us 3 salsas for a purchase of $57 dollars ( I don't know if they have a limit on the salsas). I showed Gaby that the cup holder she gave me was broken or it ripped and are made of a very cheap material ( it happened 2 steps heading out from the counter) . Best pupusas on the block! Ever since they opened I can't resists their pupusas. There aren't many salvoderian restaurants around where I live, and once I found out they opened one down the street from us, I just had to try this place. Their pupusas are tasty!! They make them fat too. I've tried almost all of them and they never disappoint me. I love fried plátanos, but sometimes they are hit or miss. Sometimes they are not ripe enough, but I'm fine as long as they keep producing good pupusas since they are the star of the show. Try their taquitos dorados those are yummy too. I ordered 7 tacos because I wanted to see which would be my favorite. They have a large variety of meats. I ordered pollo, al pastor topped with pineapple, cabeza, asada, suadero, beef ribs (I forgot the Spanish name) and lengua. It came with sides of jalapeños, sweet white onions, grilled green onions and radishes. I think that the cabeza taco was the most flavorful out of the other flavors. When I placed the order, it took less about 10 minutes for it to be prepared. I'm pretty content with the service as well, it is pretty empty. Three employees and only two other customers. This place is legit! We ordered the Calabaza, Pollo y Chorizo & Revuelta pupusas and these are no ordinary pupusas these were the biggest pupusas I've had and they were delicious! My partner ordered some tacos and appreciated how they were not scattered all over the place on the to go plate! (The little things) they have a plastic bag of the cabbage slaw and lots of salsa!
