Drunken Noodles and Tom Kha soup

I've always had great experiences here. Whether takeout or dine in, their staff is so sweet and friendly, and the food is wonderful. Super flavorful, mild spice is mild and medium is toasty, but that's on me I have some room to grow on spice. Our servers have always been attentive and kind, and it's just an overall positive vibe. I'm celiac... and I've never been sick here. They take gluten free to heart and really make sure that I'm safe. For me that's 5 stars in itself. But the rest of my family who isn't celiac feel the same (: Great spot.

My mom's birthday week merited her choice of lunch one day, so we ended up at Chandara. Refreshing iced Thai tea started us off right. We had the appetizer spring roll - insides were tasty, but rice paper was very tough (maybe they make the rolls ahead - could benefit from another dip in water just before serving so they would be more tender). Plenty of peanut sauce. We paired that with a yummy chicken pad Thai and cool sweet/sour cucumber salad (and some more peanut sauce!). We will be back!

My first time trying Thai food and my friend recommend we visit here based off other reviews. The décor resembles that of other higher quality restaurants, featuring newly installed flooring and dining tables. I wasn't the biggest fan of the food, but the customer service was friendly and exceptional. My friend mentioned it was of good standard compared to other Thai food. If you're looking for Thai and are in the Grass Valley vicinity, don't be afraid to stop in!

This place is so delicious! We were just visiting grass valley for the day and found this place and we are so thankful we stopped in. My 10 year old daughter is just raving about the vegetable soup! It is her favorite soup she's ever had, she said! We also got the drunken noodles, egg rolls and fresh spring rolls. Everything came out quick and cooked just supremely! We absolutely had an amazing dinner! The vibes in the restaurant were super relaxing with birds chirping and calming serene music. The decorations are super adorable and the atmosphere is calming and also welcoming. The people were really great as well! Everything about this place is 10+ stars! Even the restrooms are nice ! Thank you Chandara Thai cuisine! We will definitely be back soon! We are two happy campers for sure !

We were a group of 11, and I had to say our experience was very similar to another reviewer here, (Elite Marlane R.) The guy punk white dude taking our order was also the one bringing out the food, and his attitude was honestly shocking. When we politely asked if we could switch coffee to Coke, he immediately said no in a loud, irritated tone, saying Coke costs more than coffee. For us, the price difference wasn't even an issue, it was the way he spoke to us that felt disrespectful. At one point, I was just looking toward the door, and he suddenly asked me, "What are you looking at?" in a loud voice, as if I was staring at him. It was uncomfortable and unnecessary, especially since it drew attention from everyone around. Despite the poor service, we still made the effort to clean up after ourselves, busing our plates and making sure the table was neat before leaving. To the owner of Thai Noodle Express, I hope you can train your staff on how to properly treat customers. Good service goes a long way. On top of everything, the Pad Thai did not taste authentic. Very disappointing overall. I wouldn't recommend this place based on our experience.

The inside has concrete floors and a long counter with a few Thai decorative. There are green blankets covering the back area but you can see supplies like paper cups, sodas, etc. not what I expected for the only Thai place in Tahoe City. I ordered the Thai fried rice with chicken and neither the rice or the chicken had any seasoning or flavor. The rice seemed straight out of the steamer and the chicken cooked but again, absolutely no flavor. I asked for hoisin sauce to give it since flavor but I've never heard of Thai fried rice with no flavor (and I do mean NO flavor, not even salt). Bland is the only word I can think of. It was explained to be by the waiter that this is how Thai fried rice is made. My wife had pad se ew and it had flavor. I've had Thai fried rice in a number of other places and while the flavor varied, there at least was flavor. I can't say anything about the other dishes but don't order the Thai fried rice unless you want something with no taste or flavor. Service was ok, ambience urban, my food bland but my wife liked hers.

The Tom Kha, Papaya Salad, and Mango Sticky Rice were all delicious--I genuinely had no complaints. We did order a House Fried Rice as well. I do wish it was more stir fried with soy sauce to give it that dark caramelization flavor. I appreciate this little gem in the heart of Tahoe.
