First off, let me say that I have been working in restaurants for years. Many of which have been as a server, and I can't help but explain the service that my girlfriend and I received tonight at Chan's (Bend) as deplorable and utterly offensive! It started with the table we were seated at. Mind you, it was conveniently located next to the host stand as well as the entrance to the kitchen, and yes there were other tables available. The waitress, (unfortunately I wasn't there long enough to get her name), started by coming to our table which we had now been at for maybe, and this is pushing it, two whole minutes. Normally this would be a good start to the evening, but not when the first words out of her mouth were, "You ready to order?". No, "Hello, welcome, thanks for coming in, can I get you something to drink?", even if it is the most cliche approach at greeting a table. Anything would have been better than the snappy line she chose to open with. Don't worry people, it gets worse. From there we decided that we better hurry and make our decisions so the next time she came by we could be ready for our impetuous waitress. When she returned we ordered both our appetizer and entrees at the same time and the appetizer came out very quickly as a fried appetizer should, which was fine, the entrees came out when we were about halfway through with our appetizer, all the time I couldn't help but notice the lack of complimentary tea that had been served at every other table near by. What happened next is what really pushed us over the edge. We hadn't had our food for five minutes when our waitress came by our table and handed us boxes and a check! Are you ****ing kidding me!? I sat in amazement for a few moments, which was interrupted by our discourteous waitress making sure she had already brought us boxes! I got up and walked (the two steps) to the host stand where I asked for a manager. The lady at the host stand told me she was a manager so I proceeded to explain my experience to her, telling her that seeing as I had been in the restaurant for maybe 15-20 minutes and had already been given boxes and a check without being given the time to simply begin our meal. She tried to ask why we had already eaten some and I told her what she was referring to was the few bites we took before having our check thrown at us and I walked out. Never have I witnessed a worse display of hospitality than I did tonight. This is all very unfortunate seeing as Chan's has been one of my favorite places for Chinese food since I started coming here as a kid with my parents. I do not plan on returning. read more

Years ago Chan's was the best. Last week 3 of us met and ordered 4 dishes. The service was superb. The orders are still huge. Very huge. We took home enough for 4 people. But---where were the vegetables? Even in the chow mien there were few, and none on the other 3 dishes. The Sweet and sour pork pieces were hard and could not be cut with a fork. The sauce on each of the 2 other dishes tasted the same. We could not find any sesame seeds on the sesame chicken. Prices range around $9.99 for order, rice and tea. And that is easily enough for 3. Once Chan's was the best, now, they need to clean the air ducts and buy more vegetables. read more

I was craving Chinese food, which I rarely do. Grabbed some sweet & sour chicken with white rice. That night I woke up with stomach cramps and profuse sweating. The next day I had the worst bout of diarrhea I've ever had. I have been told to NEVER eat at Chan's. Now I know why. NEVER EAT AT CHAN'S!!! read more

We've been enjoying Chan's for years. We like their green bean in black bean sauce, their bbq pork and crab/cream cheese wonton appetizers. We ordered the usual and were quickly disappointed and disgusted with the quality. We soon realized that under the top succulent layer of pork, was pork that looked like it was a few days old, VERY VERY dried-out and tough. Usually it is quite moist, tender and yummy. Obviously, they have resorted to the old trick of hiding the "day old crap" underneath the top fresh layer. Boy were we upset, we hate this kind of thing!!!!! Then the crab appetizer was next and was barely warm, usually it is piping hot and fresh. The mouth feel was yucky and hardly edible. Chan's used to be a very good place to get an enjoyable meal, but not anymore. We will not be returning ever!!!!! We both absolutely hate this type of deceptive practice, hiding crappy leftovers underneath a fresh layer. This is not an acceptable way of doing business. So, beware if u choose to eat here, the quality is obviously not the best anymore, like it used to be. Chan's management has lost our business for good. We will look for a new Chinese restaurant!!!!! In addition, our waitress was embarrassingly unprofessional and completely ignorant as to what was truly going on, the poor gal didn't have a clue. If we could give Chans a "zero star", we would. Their quality and service deserves nothing more than a big, fat ZERO!!!!! read more

I have lived in bend all my life, I have seen as the land and culture has grown and developed into a thriving and peaceful place for those who not only love the out doors but enjoy a friendly smile and enjoyable service. Chans will offer you nothing but a mediocre excuse for Chinese food and horrid customer service. When I was a child, my family had gone to chans frequently. It has been a place of many precious moments and memories. However, in the past few years the service and food of this restaurant has plummeted to a stain in our beautiful culture. I had an experience where my wife had called in to set up an order and was "greeted" (I use the word hesitantly since it was more a demand for money) after which she was rudely disconnected. I immediately called back and demanded to talk to a manager after which I was given to a woman who not only said that I had no grounds to complain but also would not give me a name to complain directly about. The only reason I gave two stars is due to the fact that I enjoy the food but the service has become such a mockery of our culture that I can promise each and every person that I will never step foot into this establishment again. read more

I am not impressed with Chans, as the food and service were poor. Last time I went there I tried the gluten free noodles and they were gummy, obviously overcooked, and frankly they were inedible. I let the server know and asked to switch to rice instead. I was charged for the noodles and had to bring that to the attention of the server, as well. She did not want to take them off my bill at first, but once I refused to pay for them and asked to speak with the manager, she had it removed. Speaking of service, I waited twenty minutes after being seated before anyone came over to take my order and they had only about three other small tables of people, and all of them had been served their food. My server only checked on me one time, and I had to get the attention of another server to ask for a refill on my water and again to get her to send my server over to make a substitution for my poorly cooked noodles. When I was ready for my check, I had to go to the register where my server was hanging out talking with another employee. Needless to say, it was not a good experience and I have not been back since. read more
