Today, instead of takeout we ate in and it sure makes a difference. The food is all piping hot and fresh off the wok. It was amazing. Take home continues to steam in the box and the flavors meld together in each box and you lose the crunch of the veggies. It becomes steam cooked rather than stir fried. So we are just not going to order take out if we can possible go in to eat. Among the very best Chinese food that I have ever eaten (and I have eaten a lot). Had the General Tsao Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Deluxe Vegetables. Both the chicken dishes had no breading on them. Instead they were stir fried and came out perfect. Crispy on the outside and you could taste the spices. The fenugreek on the General's chicken gave it is a mild licorice flavor. In my entire life I have never had better General Tso's chicken!!! Stopped in last week on a road trip thru town and figured we would just get something to eat and hit the road. While that started as the plan, after eating here, my dad and I are still dreaming of and talking about how amazing this place was. The potstickers were the size of a small burrito and clearly more well crafted than any others we have ever had. The General Tso's chicken stands alone on the peak of perfection. The staff could not be more friendly and welcoming! We felt right at home here. Anytime we head to the Madras area, this is now a mandatory stop on the trip. Had to put a star to enter a posting. I didn't want to! Just got home with a take out order of Moo Goo Gui Pan Chicken and Cashew Chicken. It was $40 for 2 take out containers. The food was terrible! So SPICY with some sort of ginger and/or sauce that we couldn't eat it. I called to tell them we want to bring it back and get our money returned. They argued with me and REFUSED to accept that we said the food was spicy and if we didn't like ginger to just pick it out. WTF??!!! They told me it was take out and they don't do refund then hung up on me. They were rude, belligerent and didn't even offer to make us something else. So, my sister has left to take it back and leave it on their counter. Don't know what will transpire there when she does. To be continued... Update: My sister took the food in and they opened the containers and saw that we didn't eat but a few bites of the one order and never touched the other. The woman there saw that there was ginger in it. She gave my sister our money back. We've lived in Madras for almost 4 years. It's been almost 1 year since we had eaten at Hunan because the food quality was never really all that good. We thought we would give it a try and have simple and mild dinner and chicken with veggies sounded tasty. But, wow, tonight was a bad experience!! We will never go back to Hunan. Ordered the classic General Tsao's and iced tea. The tea in a plastic cup was barely yellow and had to add sugar to ice water.. we know how that works. $4 for that. The Tsao's came with half a head of steamed, bare broccoli. The Tsao's was hot and tender. That's the ONLY good thing about it. When the Cheshire Cat waitress asked how it was, I explained that the copious sugar was not dissolved in the General's sauce and I could feel the grains as I ate. She proceeded to argue with me that sugar is not good for you and that the flavor of the sauce is very good. What? "You are the first to complain" she said. No kiddin? Because 1. Every batch is different. 2. 1 out of a hundred customers will tell you how they really feel. I'm pretty's sure I was their 100th customer... this year. I do NOT recommend! Went here on a suggestion from the budget inn attendant. Glad we did, great service received from Annie. Food portions were good size, very flavorful. Inside it was well maintained, well decorated, and also very importantly in the winter months... Well-heated! :-) yes, as people say, it doesn't have the best exterior, but I kind of prefer that. Save your money for continuing to serve amazing food, because you're really freaking good at it. I want to go back again already just thinking about the egg drop soup and hot and sour soups. I recommend asking for a 1/2 & 1/2. I was blown away with the delicious perfection- Not too gelatinous eggy, and not too sour. It's hands down, leaps and bounds better than any other 1/2 and 1/2 egg sour soup I've ever tried. I'm surging w yum endorphins just thinking about it. We also had to try the orange chicken after another Yelp reviewers suggestion. Like the server warned us, it's not like other orange chickens- The breading was thinner, and the dish was spicier, and... holy whiskey tango foxtrot... that was the best orange chicken I've ever had too. Drove into town and didn't expect to see a Chinese restaurant. Luckily, Hunan Chinese Restaurant's' signage was viewable from the main highway going through town. It's family operated from the parent chefs to the daughter servers to the son cleaner. Service was impeccable, food delicious, and prices just right for the huge servings. The family was friendly and are from the same region of China as my ancestors. I had mother's chicken, Hunan sizzling plate with shrimp, scallops, and chicken, and stir fried green beans. The vegetables are fresh, the staff is friendly and remembers me every time, and it's always very clean inside. We read the reviews and felt hopeful. When I called the man who answered was very friendly and effecient. We ordered the chicken chow mein, sesame chicken, and egg rolls.
