Tonight, for our anniversary, we decided to forgo the more expensive restaurants and dine at Charleston's. We have eaten there in the past and the food and service was great. Tonight, however, we had a very underwhelming experience. Our waiter was not trained well and ghosted us after our entrees arrived. They did not bring our salads first and my wife's salad was delivered to the table across the aisle. Our baked potatoes were a little dry so we looked for our waiter to bring us some butter, which they should have come with. Again, our waiter was no where to be found. We finally got his attention when we were half through with the meal. My wife had the salmon, which she said was good. I ordered a Hawaiian ribeye steak that was tough and grisly. I have never had a medium rare steak that tough before. To top it off the steak cost $48. I don't usually write poor restaurant reviews but considering A $150 tab for two entrees and 4 glasses of wine they need to step up their game. read more

Was visiting from another state, a family member who lives in OKC suggested this eatery and they did not disappoint. Very popular with the locals, there was a 30 minute wait for our party of eight with no reservation's, good seating and very pleasant wait staff, ordered a whiskey sour first on was kinda off after that they where spot on. While enjoying my cocktail I took a look around, very relaxing mellow atmosphere. I went today as a solo diner for lunch. Staff was all very friendly and quick. I got the dynamite shrimp as an appetizer and they were fine with my request to have it grilled instead of fried (tasted wonderful with the sauce and the veggies). However, when I did "Billy" was calling within minutes....impressive. Then again another nose dive. He was respectful and mindful of my experience, indicating that someone would be responding with an email first thing the the morning as he doesn't "do that". Sure, no problem. Next morning....no email. Later in the day, I called and spoke to the "person who does that". Unfortunately or fortunately for him, I can't recall his name. He acknowledged the issue and said that it could take as much as 24 hrs to receive their email. At this point, I'm skeptical, but okay sure. This is now another 24 hrs later. Nothing. Such bullshit. Sad to see that I think they've made their crescent rolls smaller than in years before but still yummy! I really love their food, albeit a little pricey. That being said the volume of music was entirely too loud. I requested that the volume be reduced to a still very audible range but also to a level that one didn't have to shout to their dinner companion in order to be heard. They were obligatory and lowered the volume, which made for a very pleasant dinner. This is a good place for a quick lunch. They have a variety of salads and sandwiches. Today I choose the chicken salad Sandwich with fries. The chicken salad was ok. Defiantly not the best I've ever eaten. The bread was fresh and toasted. It came with too much lettuce for my liking. Certainly did not taste homemade. I would opt for something different next time. When I visit my family back home in Oklahoma, we usually end up at either Ted's Cafe Escondido (check out my review for that) or Charleston's for dinner. I've been here many times growing up in Edmond and my dad happens to be a huge fan. While I love the ambiance, I'm not entirely sold on the entrees. I've never had anything that kept me coming back for more...and there are probably at least five other places I would choose to go to before Charleston's, but I tend to go with the flow when I'm back home. I've had the blackened chicken caesar salad but noticed the dressing was a bit too intense (make sure you get the dressing on the side). The salmon is actually pretty delicious but I prefer it as an entree, not with the salad. The most recent trip I ordered the grilled mahi mahi with steamed veggies served on a bed of rice and I would have to say that it was probably the best meal I've ever ordered from this restaurant. It was delicious and the portion size was so big that my brother took half of it home for his lunch the next day. My mom ordered a burger and it was large enough to split the meal with my grandma and still have leftovers. They serve warm loafs of bread and butter when you arrive, and warm croissants with pre-dinner salads. They have a full bar but I've never had anything to drink here so not sure how their cocktails taste. The prices average anywhere from $12-$30 for an entree and they have everything from soup/salad to steaks. Overall I would say that Charleston's is a decent choice if you want a variety of American food options, definitely worth checking out but don't expect anything extraordinary. read more

Wow!! I don't know why it's been so many years since I've been to a Charleston's! We were wanting to eat lunch after church & was wanting something new and I thought well we haven't been to Charleston's in ages so that's where we ended up! First the restaurant was busy, clean, nice atmosphere and we were seated immediately! Thank goodness they have lots of seating since they were only seating at every other table/booth due to Covid19! They were playing some light music in the background that was enjoyable! My husband ordered the catfish platter with the fried okra and brussel sprouts while I had the chicken piccata with brussel sprouts! My chicken picacata was so amazing! The chicken was cooked perfectly and was tender and juicy while the veggies (artichokes, asparagus and tomatoes) with that lemon caper butter sauce was just so full of flavor! The brussel sprouts had a nice tang to them from balsamic and we didn't leave any on our plates! My husband enjoyed the fish and okra! We both made "happy plates" as our grand kids say! You step into Charleston's and are transported to a time where organized crime wasn't in movies and "the Mafia" was unknown to the general public. You assume there are back rooms with poker being played by people like Tony and Vinnie. They aren't betting chips but businesses and buildings they own to launder money. Yes this place does in fact have a distinct and cool vibe that any regular person would love to sit in a corner booth at. Now don't mistake my ambiance description as that of a scary place you wouldn't want to take the family. No, this is more like the kind of place only the high rollers would be seen at, except now it is totally open to the public and very friendly for everyone! Similar to the first half of every Jurassic Park/World movie; you know before the dinosaurs break loose and begin the killings and what not. I began my meal with a glass of pink lemonade because I am sophisticated, but am still here to party. (Hence the addition of the flavor "pink") This drink really does wonders to open the pallet and make it more susceptible to those deep flavor nodes I keep hearing about. I order pork chops with glazed carrots and mashed potatoes for my sides. Let's dive right in. The trick to a carrot, potato, meat plate is to have them mix together in your stomach without mixing the flavors on the plate. It also needs to be eaten in a very specific order so you don't have to finish a half order of carrots or potatoes after you have eaten everything else. The eating sequence is as follows: One medium bite of pork chop, one small fork of potato, then 14/15ths of a carrot. I realize this may seem arbitrary and difficult to follow but if you simply have faith in my words you will have the picture perfect plate ending! The pork chop was well cooked with the perfect amount of "yeah this touched real life fire" char. As you take each bite (spaced out by carrots and potatoes) you slowly realize that these chops are the equivalent of betting on black at the roulette table. You might not win as big as you could, but you feel safe in an unsafe world. These glazed carrots may be the best glazed carrots of any restaurant that serves glazed carrots, and that I ordered glazed carrots from that there is! I typically rate glazed carrots at a 6-6.5 out of ten on the perfect glazed carrots scale. Charleston's glazed carrots however were closer to an 8 or even 8.15 out of ten on the glazed carrots scale! I am serious, these glazed carrots were sweet, but not too sweet and that is the true test for any glazed carrot dish! As most people's great grand pappy would say, "The taters make the meal." I tell you what, you're great grand pappy Milton was right! These mashed potatoes are flavorful, smooth, and have bits of heart in each bite. (Not real heart this isn't the 50's!) If you consider yourself a potato aficionado and skip on Charleston's....well, you're just flat wrong because these may be the best things on the menu. Consistently good service with good food. My favorite is the salmon cesar salad and their Flint & Steel. They have really delicious key lime pie. Their appetizers are lacking. I'm not a fan of any of them and I've tried just about all of them. Steaks are good and aside from the extremely low lighting in the bathroom (twice as low as the restaurant) the ambiance is nice. It's not cheap but I appreciate the general manager checking in on every visit I've had this far. Only had one snag where my fiancés ribs and chicken took almost an hour and 10min to be done.
