The cheesesteak is pretty standard...until you misread the part where it comes with lettuce, onions, and pickles with mayo slathered onto the bread. While this may be enticing to someone who wants to eat a cheesesteak in sandwich form, this was a little off putting to me. The heat of the steak made the lettuce wilt, so with minor modifications (I just took all the veggies out), it was a pretty good mall cheesesteak. I think I made mine a combo for an additional $3-4 dollars. I dressed up my fries with the fry seasoning and it was delicious. Honestly, the food is your basic Philly Steak Sandwich place that's been a little "Americanized", meaning it's a fairly simple Philly and not the true kind you'd might find in Philadelphia or New York. That's doesn't deter from the fact it's still pretty tasty. I actually enjoy their turkey and cheddar sandwich more. Love their fries, especially with cheese and bacon. Unfortunately, the better it taste, the more unhealthy it is, but what's a splurge every now and then! Never had a problem with their service. It's fairly standard for a mall shop. I've been going to the Brea Mall for my entire life and had never eaten here...and it should have stayed that way. For a Wednesday afternoon it was definitely not busy. But the wait for my one sandwich and fries was 15 minutes! Plus another 2 minutes when I asked for a side of ranch and the guy said okay but then walked away. They were short staffed since someone was on break but perhaps instead of one guy ringing at the register and one guy "cooking", they should have managed their tasks differently. Unlike most reviews this has nothing to do with the food. I actually enjoy the food. The reason for my 1 star review is due to not following through on commitments. A couple weeks ago I was going through some cards and came across a buy 7 get one free card. It had the required 7 purchases stamped Since I was going be be at Brea I thought I would redeem it for my free sub and purchase a fry and drink to go with it. Around lunch I. Went to the cashier presented my card and was told it would not be accepted. Something about covid and I had to do everything online. Tried to explain that I had already purchased the necessary sandwiches and just wanted my free one. He could have easily verified the card and either thrown it in the trash or had me do it. We love Charley's since the food is generally good but on our recent visit with a different staff we seem to have issues. The mall was clearly busy but the location had 1-2 patrons in front of us that ordered. Generally I would think the orders of food being made should be according to who ordered first. This wasn't the case. Several patrons after us received their meals immediately compared to how long we waited. The cashier was friendly but the cooks on the other hand were not. When our order was called we were missing some of our order. We informed them that we are still waiting on the other item and was willing to show them the receipt. Instead of rechecking the order the cooks said no we weren't and continued to finished the other orders. We waited and then they relooked at the order according to the monitor they were using and said then after giving us trouble oh i just saw it now?! How do u make an order yet not pay attention to the entire order?? Our sandwich's got cold by the time we got the rest of our meal and the quality of food was average compared to our previous visits to this location and the other locations. Clearly this location needs to rearrange how they manage the orders. read more

I walked up at 7:50 but they refused to take my order because they were "already closed" even though they don't close till 8. They seem to be the only one in the food court that served unsweetened tea that night. My hubby decided to get something else in the food court and couldn't find any at three other places. I always regret eating the subs at Charley's. At the split moment when my mind makes the decision to eat there, my eyes visualize something delicious through their pictures and free samples. My nose smells the tasty aroma of their subs and before I know it, my fingers are already reaching for my wallet. By then, I'm as dead as a doorknob. Even after the first 2 or 3 bites, the sub is satisfying but soon after that, my stomach remembers what it's getting and then the gurgles begin. I think it has something to do with their bread because it's never that soft and really just sits in your stomach. The meat, veggies, cheese, and other condiments are fine but I'd to be stupid to not think that I could get it better somewhere else. Maybe, my brain thinks that I'm still eating at the Great Steak and Potato, which was the former business that owned the real estate. I also think that the color scheme has something to do with it as well since the venue is highlighted with red, yellow, and orange - colors which stimulate the need to eat. So these days, It's not that hard to resist their subs. I consider their prices to be expensive and I don't even want to look into their calorie content.
