I always regret eating the subs at Charley's. At the split moment when my mind makes the decision to eat there, my eyes visualize something delicious through their pictures and free samples. My nose smells the tasty aroma of their subs and before I know it, my fingers are already reaching for my wallet. By then, I'm as dead as a doorknob. Even after the first 2 or 3 bites, the sub is satisfying but soon after that, my stomach remembers what it's getting and then the gurgles begin. I think it has something to do with their bread because it's never that soft and really just sits in your stomach. The meat, veggies, cheese, and other condiments are fine but I'd to be stupid to not think that I could get it better somewhere else. Maybe, my brain thinks that I'm still eating at the Great Steak and Potato, which was the former business that owned the real estate. I also think that the color scheme has something to do with it as well since the venue is highlighted with red, yellow, and orange - colors which stimulate the need to eat. So these days, It's not that hard to resist their subs. I consider their prices to be expensive and I don't even want to look into their calorie content. If anything, I get their cheddar & bacon fries with ketchup, which is not that bad when I have a french fry craving. read more

I miss The Great Steak & Fry too! It looks like Charley's has replaced a few Great Steak & Fry locations. So I tried it today. They had a turkey cheddar melt that just had meat & cheese. I told them to add mushrooms & onions & that I wanted provolone cheese rather than cheddar. I also got lettuce & tomatoes on it. It's good, but NO Great Steak & Fry that's for sure! Service sucks. Management is horrible. I ordered the special $5.99 sandwich & fries, along with everyone else in the line. My request on the sandwich was that it was on the multigrain bun and that there was no cheese. Since all the customers were waiting in a line, I could tell which order was mine. I noticed that the man cooking my meal put cheese on the sandwich and when he passed it on to another employee, the employee pointed out that the sandwich was supposed to have NO cheese (he said it in spanish, "no queso"). Well, cheap labor and poor training , burnt bread, process is all off- I placed my order and they just put the drink on top of the soda machine and walked away. Within 20 seconds they gave me my fries, but had to wait 10 minutes for my sandwhich. And they destroyed my sandwhich, burnt bread.
