I went here Sunday,16th, with my family who were visiting from Ohio. We had 10 people and two little ones. I don't feel we waited too long for our table. Our server was awesome. Sadly, I can't remember his name. I want to say Steve or Donnie. Food was great with great prices. I got the fried fish platter with fries and there was a lot of fish. The only downfall was my food was room temp, probably because it finished before some of my tables food was ready. But it was still good. Someone got the grilled mahi and another got crab legs. This place is across from our place in Ormond beach. It stays busy. It is rare i look out of my window and there isnt a line waiting ti get in. Yesterday we went about 5 pm and waited about 20 minutes. The food and service is quick and good. We had the fish fry and the fish and shrimp. Both was about as much as we could eat. Out grandkids got shrimp and fish also and had a hefty portion. This seems to be a popular place for tourist and locals alike. I recommend. read more

My wife and I ate there tonight and these reviews clearly are written by locals. We were seated right away, but weren't helped by anyone for the first 15 minutes. Two separate waitresses asked if we been helped and when we replied, "no." They would say they'd be back... The third waitress to ask finally helped us. The food was sub par at best as well as staff friendliness. We had peel and eat shrimp, clam chowder, mahi-mahi sandwich and their "famous" wings. The shrimp was good, waitress brought out melted butter for dipping (weird?) Had to request cocktail sauce. My wife said the clam chowder was good nothing special, her mahi which she did get fried was way too greasy(she literally went to the bathroom to spit out grease) the bread was under baked, and they only gave lettuce and no sauce which again had to be requested, ultimately she ended up eating her fries which were good. I tried their wings, mild, I may have well just ordered butter and grease because that's what I got. I got about 3 wings in before I couldn't stomach them anymore, I asked for some medium sauce and it tasted much like every other wing sauce. Lastly if you go do not get seated with Elaine, she acted as though we were a pain in her butt, we never complained to her about the food or made any negative comments. She clearly didn't care about our experience or if we'd ever come back. I saw every waitress at least 3 times before we saw her. She'd slip by, trying not to make eye contact. My wife and I visit this restaurant each time we are in Daytona. The services has always been very good and always attentive. This restaurant serves an array of sandwiches, fresh seafood, steaks and everything in between. The also have a full bar. On this visit we had wings $9.99 and as always they were very good. They are non breaded and have a nice hint of heat as well as tang. They came out piping hot. They have a great atmosphere but go early because they usually have a wait. I ordered the Haddock Fish Fry $12.99. Lots of fish and sides to go with it. The fish was flaky and had just the right amount of batter. My wife had the fried oysters $13.99 and they were 12 good size oysters and tasted very good. We have tried numerous items on the menu and have never been disappointed with any of the items. They also offer All You Can Eat Crablegs for $49.99. My wife also had a mixed drink recommended by our server that was very good. This restaurant is on the north end of Daytona. It does sit across from the ocean but you are not able to view the ocean from the restaurant. Locally and owned and operated and proud of ownership shows in all they do. The service was excellent! Food was prepared quickly and was very good. I had the 10oz sirloin, garlic mashed potatoes and a cup of the homemade crab bisque. Everything was great. My wife had a chicken salad and it was huge! My kids had the chicken tenders with two different wing sauces, another 10oz sirloin with rice pilaf, and mahi mahi with mango pineapple salsa. The three of them said everything was awesome! My daughter said the mango pineapple salsa was "the bomb"! The only issue was my son's 10oz sirloin was supposed to be medium rare but came out rare. Great service and friendly casual atmosphere. Reasonably priced for the area. The food is better then most in the area and the new shrimp jalapeño poppers are really yummy. I love crab legs and I love this place. They have all you can eat everyday but on Tuesdays, the price is reduced from $29 to $24. Such a deal. The best part is that the server brings them to you, hot and fresh. Our server just kept bringing them when he saw our tray was low until we yelled "ENOUGH"...The interior is very casual but clean and they do have a full bar. The other food that was coming out of the kitchen looked really good and the place was packed on a Tuesday in Nov. so I guess they are doing something right. read more

Had lunch with Marina at the Charlie Horse in Ormond Beach and it was a great experience. On Tuesdays, they have a $25.99 special, 2 lbs of snow crab legs and 2 sides. Great service and the food was good. My major detractor was that the equipment for cracking the crab open was a little worse for the wear and could definitely use an upgrade. I went here last Saturday during a weekend vacation to Daytona Beach. It was a few blocks away from my hotel, so I decided to give it a try. The food was excellent. I had the Crab Legs, which at $29.99 for all-you-can-eat, is a pretty good deal, IMO. The crab was cooked to perfection and each additional order took only a few minutes to come out. They start you out with 1-2lbs and bring them out in 1lb increments. The side of vegetables were not so good, but i guess you don't really eat all-you-can-eat and worry about a side of green beans. My girlfriend had the ribeye steak, which was done to perfection as well. You really can't go wrong at this place. i'm sure it gets quite crowded during peak times, but it is worth the wait if you are in Daytona Beach. read more

While staying a weekend at the beach my husband and I decided to check this place out. I really don't have much to say except everything was just OK. They had your basic bar selection, but I was disappointed with their beer selection. The food was just also OK. I ordered the mahi-mahi fish dinner and my husband ordered the chicken pasta dish. Both dishes were decent. I've had better mahi-mahi and the pasta sauce tasted like something out of the can. I came here tonight based off of the reviews here on yelp. The atmosphere is an awesome family type atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They work together to take care of their customers. I sat at the bar since I was alone. Kenny was tending the bar and was very helpful. I was considering the 1.5lb crab leg dinner when he suggested the combo with 1 lb of crab legs and half pound of peel and eat shrimp. Great value at $21,99. The red potatoes were perfect and the Cole slaw made fresh was great. My drink glass never went empty and they kept the top clean. I highly recommend the Charlie Horse. We happened upon the Two for Tuesday-which is 2 pounds of snow crab essentially for the price of their regular one and a half pounds. It's a lot of work, but fun and delicious. We got crab legs. They weren't extremely great or bad either...but they were $21 which seemed extremely high-priced. The place was pretty packed and the service was ok. I had a Malibu Baybreeze....there couldn't have been any alcohol in it at all. Came here during summer vacation. The place was packed at dinner time (they do NOT take reservations). Took 45mnutes to get seated. Ordered 1.5lb snow crab dinner and hush puppies. Also tried the New England clam chowder. Snow Crab was excellent. I think they stream it instead of boiling so there is no watter logging like in the Chinese buffets. Great hush puppies. Wasn't crazy about the clam chowder. They used red potatoes that were too sweet. Idaho would have been better. Overall it was worth the wait. Ended up going back a few nights later. read more

One of our favorite places to eat. The tery-garlic wings are amazing! And the snow crab is super fresh. We also had coconut shrimp and peel and eat shrimp. If you're not used to Old Bay I wouldn't recommend putting it on your shrimp (they ask before they do) they are heavy w/the spice (which we like!) The only downside we found was the chairs are super uncomfortable, they only have bar chairs, it makes for great conversation at a long table, but it hurts your back and legs after a while. Annual tradition of eating at the Charlie Horse and was not disappointed! We started with corn fritters (my fave!! which is corn breaded and deep fried) and bottle caps (breaded and fried jalapenos). It's dry) and the atmosphere is always nice. Good prices too! Disappointing. The photos were misleading. I ordered snow crab clusters, steamed shrimp, crab bisque soup and red potatoes with a side order of corn nuggets. The snow crab was over cooked, making it impossible to get the meat out of the shell. The shrimp looked great but was seasoned with a distasteful seasoning. I ate here with my wife and we started off with a tap yuengling ($3) and a delicious georgia peach($6). The appetizer special for the evening was fried calamari, and it was thick but not chewy so delicious. I ordered the mahi mahi Cajun style, and the portion was generous and the seasoning not too salty. I wanted the crab bisque as an upcharge to replace my side but they wouldn't let me, so I had to order it separately, and I chose red potatoes for the side, which came without butter or sour cream (I did ask for butter but shouldn't have to). The crab bisque was excellent, the potatoes were standard fare. My wife ordered shrimp scampi with rice and a side of garlic bread (for specializing in seafood I find it odd to not have hush puppies or Italian bread as a side) and she also received a generous portion. She couldn't eat all of her shrimp so I had some and as I am quite particular about my shrimp, I can say with confidence the shrimp was not very good. Overly chewy with an odd taste. Overall the experience was good with a home town restaurant environment, and I definitely would return again. read more

In a town where it seems like every restaurant is a seafood restaurant (and there is nothing wrong with that) it is nice to have a little variety. This is a very casual bar / restaurant with a laid back ambiance and a varied menu. The service was a tad slow for a mid afternoon lunch but the food more than made up for it. The flame broiled hamburgers were perfectly juicy and cooked to medium as we requested. The Mai Mai was moist and flavorful. We will return on any subsequent visit to Daytona. read more
