This could have been a great experience except for some Russian owned business dont know the limit! Food was very fresh and everything tasted great that is why it's still three stars. We ordered 5-7 appetizers and were happy with all. Our waiter was very pleasant and service was very good overall. The surprise came with a bill, what was supposed to be a $28 appetizer, became $95, when I asked why, waiter said he thought it's for everyone...as one order has 2 pieces. It's was 5 of us, still didn't add up in my math, maybe I need to look into common core. But the cherry was the fruit plate for $50, just few pieces of watermelon and pineapple with grapes. My job has me on the road a lot and finding good food is hard.I came across Chateau de Capitaine on a recent NY trip and immediately fell in love with the place..the decor ,the atmosphere and staff we're 5 star, and the food...oy vei I couldn't get enough. From the crab salad to the lobster bisque, then I had to try the grilled rainbow trout which I topped with shrimp in cream sauce. Simply delicious. To top it off there was live entertainment with artists that actually sounds good. All I can say is whenever I'm back in NY this is where I will be eating. To : Stunska I You must be a virologist to possess such vast knowledge on food poisoning. FYI regular food poisoning can take a few hours to take effect, but a virus such as vibrio vulnificus can take 1-7 days to incubate. So go figure what the virus actually was when only those who consumed the oysters were affected. I would never want to knock on local business, especially considering that I frequented Chateau De Alik a lot in the past and always bought my seafood from 7 Seas on the corner. My bf and I came here for an anniversary a few months ago and it was perfect. We had the fois gras, calamari and fish and everything was delicious. The decor was beautiful and not overwhelming like most russian restaurants and they had English translations on their menus in case you bring someone who doesn't read/speak russian. What started off as great birthday party and great Monday evening, ended ip as myself, my wife and 4 of friends being sick after eating what ended up not so fresh oysters. We were celebrating my birthday party. The food served on time, the waiters were super attentive and food was great in general. I did't even argue 15% of service charge and tipped the waiters 20% off total on top for what I considered a great evening. 18 hours later I start a getting sick, few hours after that, my wife gets sick as well, and then like a clock work, one after another, get the same symptoms.All 4 my friends who had oysters got sick that evening. The funny thing is the owner of this establishment owns a fish store on the same block where I always used to by " fresh seafood" When I called to voice out my disappointment , the manager or the owner was rude and unapologetic. Came here once for dinner except they never gave us a table. The RACISM I experienced here was disgusting and made me never want to go back. I was dressed nicely and came with my newborn and bf. I was waiting for a table but not a single person approached me, except they just stared. Went on 2/24/15...the place wasn't super busy, I'd say about 10% of the restaurant was occupied....no reason for the food to take sooooo LOOOOONNNGGG to come out, it was ridiculously slow service. Now, I'm a reasonable person and I understand that good food takes a while to prepare, but this was just way beyond that. We ordered two salads and an appetizer, all of which came out fairly quick. Then the service hit a roadblock, waiting and waiting and waiting for two soups and two entrees. Food was good for the most part. Skip the lobster salad, the portion is atrociously small and not worth the tiny barely-there lobster crumbs. Waiters were confused and all over the place, our waiter honestly admitted to us that it was his 2nd day on the job, I'm not holding that against him, at least he was honest. But the manager failed to do her job. On two occasions, they brought food to our table that we did not order (yes I'm sure we didn't order that) and we laughed as they took that same food to another table who also said they didn't order it, waiters huddled to figure out which table the food belongs to. This happened twice, all while we're waiting for the food we DID order. Overall, food was good but nothing spectacular. Decor is nice but you'll pay for it in the prices of their dishes. Service is atrocious, slow and unorganized. I wouldn't return. read more

If you really miss obnoxious and overly rude "russian" style service-that's your first choice. I came here for a friends birthday party. Yes we were a large group. However I have never had such a horrible experience in a restaurant in my entire life. Especially a restaurant that puts itself out there as a fine dining establishment. Let's start with the drinks. The waitress went around and took our drink order. We then waited at least 20 minutes for her to start bringing the drinks, one by one. It literally took forever for everyone in our party to get their drinks. Everyone ordered their entrees. This is when the next waiting game began. About an hour passed until they started to bring the entrees. The servers didn't even know who ordered what or even what the dish they were bringing out was. Someone was served he wrong dish and was told that it is what they ordered. The whole experience was just pure chaos. When I finally got my entree is was just okay. Nothing special. When you add that to the atrocious service it was just bad. There were two ladies sitting behind us who apparently had a similar experience. They left after eating there appetizers because they couldn't wait any longer for there next course. I heard them cancel their order. Horrible. Also the guy who was apparently the manager didn't seem bothered by anything at all. Horrendous service and horrible management. These people do not know how to run a restaurant. We were there this past Sunday for a birthday party. We got there at 6 and were surprised that the restaurant was almost packed. We were a party of 20 and luckily sat all the way back by the windows. The decor is basic, wide open space, nice table cloth, narrow tables, quite noisy even before the music.The food was really fresh and tasty: oysters, salmon and tuna tartar served in individual spoons, Greek salad with good feta, eel salad, lobster salad, sea food salad, steak salad, smoked fish, goose liver pate, good fresh crusty bread, to name just a few, can't remember everything. The hot appetizers were made fresh right before the service, not reheated: perfectly cooked home fried potatoes with abundance of buttery chanterelle mushrooms and then kutabi, thin fried dough stuffed with either meat or greens. Then came the goose liver on toast, perfectly cooked filet minion served thin sliced with Israeli couscous. Oh and there was seafood: the assortment of salmon, shrimp, whole langoustines and king crab legs with the best fluffy cheesy polenta I've ever ate, and then if somebody had any more room, came out delicious lamb chops, chicken, lamb lula and quails with a side of shoe string potatoes. If that was not enough, for desert we were served petite french pastries with tea and coffee, sour cherry dumplings and plates of fresh fruit. I may have forgotten a few items, it was just way too much food. Again, not your average run of the mill Russian restaurant food or service. My experience at Chateau De Capitaine was excellent! My family and I were celebrating a birthday and could not have been more pleased with the service and quality of food. We ordered a variety of salads, escargot, oysters, as well as fish for entrees. Everything was fresh, flavorful and seasoned exceptionally. The fish was grilled perfectly. The waiters were knowledgeable about how everything is prepared which was very helpful since one person in our party has food allergies and needed certain ingredients to be eliminated or substituted. They were happy to accommodate any changes and did not mess up the order. As if we weren't already stuffed from the appetizers and main dish, we decided to try a variety of desserts. The desserts are all homemade and ALL of them we're delicious-- not overly sweet but just right and full of flavor. We had a great experience here and will certainly return. We felt so welcomed and our stomachs were very happy :) highly recommend! read more

It's date night!!! We had to stay close to home so we went to a place that' we havent been to in few years. We had a great time at this restaurant the food was amazing had a little arugula goat cheese salad and had some octopus thank God it was amazing bec it took forever to get to the table we even forgot we ordered it. It was really good super tender we ate it so fast that i didn't even get a chance to take a pic. For the entree my hubby got the rack of lamb it was very good cooked perfectly but too much fat. I had the salmon it was melt in your mouth kinda amazing with cream sauce and grilled veggies I ate the whole thing and of course washed it down with some well deserved liquor.
