Yesterday my husband and I went to use a $75 Restaurant gift card my aunt gave me for my birthday. We went for lunch while our kids were at school, a rare midday date We were looking forward to. We thought an hour and a half would be enough time to sit at the lounge enjoy some food before picking up our daughter from kindergarten. We ordered two apps and the daily special of chicken Parm. Also two rounds of drinks. Like some reviews have said it wasn't the easiest to get a refill on our drinks but I was OK with that since I'm not a big fan of chains where the server is down your throat. It also took about 40 minutes between appetizers and the lunch special. That was surprising since the place seemed pretty empty and it was a special not something exotic. We had about 10 minutes to eat our food before we had to go and we asked to pay the check with the gift certificate and a more than 20% tip because despite the long wait I was having a good time. Then the bartender said she couldn't get the gift card to work. She went to get the manager who said in front of everybody at the bar, " This gift card has been used before But you can pay with a credit card." We would not have spent $100 on our lunch had we known we would have to use a credit card. However, since we really need to pick up our daughter my husband said fine and gave them a credit card. They then were saying that they couldn't get the credit card to work. At this point it looks like our card is being declined and we look like major sketch balls in front of a lot of people which was very embarrassing. Finally we tell them we will get our daughter from school and return to the restaurant while they work on getting the card to work. About 25 minutes later we return to the Château lounge with our five year old. The bartender said, "sorry we did get the gift card to work after all, our system was down it turns out." While the apology was some thing, A good manager would have came out again and said sorry himself as well. He might've even given a token like free appetizers or made it good somehow since we literally had to take the rest of the afternoon off from work ( needed to pick up son after round 2 at Chateau) and our day would've been better off if we never went on our date. My family has been loyal customers at Chateau for years and we were treated pretty poorly yesterday . It's sad. read more

The delivery is done by Door dash, who is NOT charging a delivery fee right now, yet the Chateau website/app IS charging a delivery fee (found this out after I ordered) Also, no where to enter special delivery instructions on their website/app and there IS a place on the Door dash app (again found out after). First time I called the restaurant to discuss delivery instructions, woman told me to call Door dash. I had trouble getting through, due to COVID-19, so called Chateau back. This time I got a woman who was actually helpful, but my order was already out for delivery, so she couldn't do anything. Five stars for the 'kitch factor' but overall, a 2.5... I practically grew up at the Chateau (this location, the original...) From births, to deaths, and everything in between, we celebrate here. Last night a group of us got together for Dad's 75th birthday and it was good. It's always good... not great, and not bad either. We were a party of 11 and were able to call ahead for a reservation which was great because even at 6:00, this place was packed!! It's definitely more of an "early bird special" type of clientle (our party included)!! We were sat in the famous Gold Room, filled with pictures of your favorite Italian actors and actresses of the '70's... From Frank Sinatra to John Travolta. Good times. Overall the food was good, we stuck to the basics; chicken parm, eggplant parm, toasted ravioli, some seafood-alfredo casserole special, and I had a pizza of ricotta and polpette, cooked crispy as requested. It was enough food to take home leftovers for all... We had a good time. My only complaint is that our server had too many tables. Not only did she have our party of 11, she had 2 eight tops, a couple four tops, plus tables in another part of the room. Service was a little slow, I had to get up and ask our server for an extra side of pasta sauce as she was in a different room most of the night. We were never offered drink refills, etc. We skipped dessert as it was almost 3 hours later, got out of there will a bill of $200.00 or so, 18% grat included. I can say with certainty that I'll personally be back (it's a given) but there are other places to go to for good Italian. My Dad has been going here since he was little, and naturally he's been taking me here since I was little. Any time I get together with friends and they want to go somewhere "new," I take them to my favorite Italian spot. Surprise, it's the Chateau. The sauce is great. It reminds me of the sauce my grandmother used to make; a family recipe passed down through the cousins. Every time I come here it feels like coming home. I love all the portraits of family all over the walls and the displays over colored placemats from the children. Get the toasted ravs with meatballs. They're not fried, they're toasted. I have complained before about my delivery meals never arriving as ordered. Once again tonight, I added a "REMARK" on my order to "please put lots of gravy" on my pot roast dinner. It arrived with barely any gravy. Last week I ordered the same dinner with the "REMARK" to "please put lots of gravy on the meat and mashed potatoes". It arrived with no gravy on the mashed, but more gravy on the pot roast than tonight. I've flagged them in the past about someone doing quality control on their takeout orders, but obviously it's still not being done. It's really too bad because their food is very good. Called to confirm after getting nervous that maybe they had missed the note- nope- they saw the note but had run out of gluten free so just sent regular. First they told me they could fix it when I told them I couldn't eat the regular (obviously)- then after I called to just cancel they told me they had actually already sent it out with the non- gluten free option. I just wanted to add an update. A little over a year ago my mother passed away. After the funeral we held an afternoon lunch gathering for family and friends at the Chateau and it was a beautiful lunch. The Chateau do many of these and it showed as they had excellent suggestions and handled all the details. We ended up with a menu giving guests a choice between steak, fish, or an italian platter, plus salad, bread and spumoni for dessert. And coffee, water and sodas. My son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren recently moved to a suburb of Boston, MA. This was our first visit to see them. My daughter-in-law made reservations at the Chateau Restaurant for the seven (7) of us.. When we arrived, we were immediately seated. Once seated, we were greeted by the waiter, who took our drink order. We ordered a variety of entrees including lasagne, spaghetti and pizza. When the food arrived, it was very hot. We recently decided to check out The Chateau for dinner, and we really enjoyed it. The first thing we were surprised by was how gigantic the restaurant is...they have multiple parking lots and multiple large dining rooms. If you need a place that can accommodate a large group, this seems like a good option. It's clearly a very popular restaurant, too, as it was really filling up by the time we left despite its size. I'm not sure they're necessary unless you have a large group, but they also do take reservations. Our waitress was very nice, and we enjoyed our meal. I'd highly recommend the fried calamari appetizer...it was cooked perfectly, among the best I've ever had, and the size of the small was pretty generous for $6. For entrees, my husband chose the Italian Platter and I ordered the Haddock St. Germaine. My husband really liked the meatball and sausage in his dish. The Haddock was good, too, although very oily and salty from the cheese. Overall, this might not be the best Italian restaurant around, but it's definitely a good option. read more

The food was typical Chateau fare. My negative review is because of the manager on duty, Karen I believe her name is. Mind you, for all our occasions there, we've always sat at a grouping of tables configured as one long table... For anywhere from 10-30 people. Last night, we made a reservation for 12. When we arrived, they split our group into 2 separate tables. One of the family approached the hostess and said, My son is a Marine and this is his first time home in 5 years... Can we put the tables together?... She was told "No". Others in our party were not aware she had spoken to the hostess and rearranged the tables into a long table like we always do. We sit down and start socializing when the manager comes over to us. She began very loudly berating us and made a scene for everyone to hear. Said we were told "No!" about re-arranging the tables. Scolding us like children. Than ranted how difficult it would be for the staff to work around the set-up (Which our server had no difficulty at all)... Then went on to say how the set up made access to the fire door difficult. (The access was no different than the 2 separate table set up)... Then she said... Well, you've already done what we told you not to do, so we'll just leave it this time. I very nicely said "Would it help if we moved the setup a little back?... She scowled at me... and said "You got away with it this time"... Then something to the effect of how would we like it if they came to our house and started rearranging our furniture. She stormed off leaving us silent with everyone around staring. Never have I been to a restaurant and treated that way. Never have I been to a restaurant where management did not go out of their way to accommodate their guests. Especially when we were celebrating a homecoming for one of this country's service men. After decades of family celebrations (all at a long table), it looks like we'll be ending a tradition and finding some other more accommodating establishment. Oh... As a side note: If I were having a dozen or so guest to my home for a celebration, I would have no problem rearranging my furniture to accommodate my guests. read more

I've been around Waltham for 4 years now and have been meaning to try this place that others call "a staple" of the area, especially since the restaurant owns three relatively large parking lots and every single one of them is always full. We got the half order of toasted ravioli (3 raviolis), the chicken parmesan with gnocchi, and the spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs. The toasted ravioli was nice and crispy on the outside with a smooth cheese in the middle. I only had one bite of the chicken parmesan with gnocchi but it seemed tasty. One thing that caught my attention about the dish though was that it seemed like two entrees on one plate--the chicken parmesan was on half the plate with one sauce, and the gnocchi took up the rest of the plate and had its own sauce. Both were good, but it was a bit disjoint to have both on one plate. My spaghetti and meatballs was also good. The meat sauce didn't have much meat but the large meatballs that I had added filled that void. I have to give props for the service--our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly. Had dinner here last night. We ordered the calamari and cheese pizza. They also brought out bread and marinara sauce, which I was not a fan of. The pizza was good, the crust was perfect. The calamari was also great. I've also had the the eggplant parm, which is delicious. Our food came out in a timely manner. Our server was great. We did not have a good experience from this place. We tried ordering for delivery and we had to call a different number because they don't deliver. When we called the other number and made our order they WAY over charged us. A lunch special with salad or soup included in their website for $12.99 they wanted to charge $15.99 plus $3.89 for a salad. So we were talking to people back and forth to fix that. The person kept asking if we were going to include a tip in the bill, like that was ok to do after what we had to tell them the prices were wrong!!! Really annoying. I've only been to the Chateau once. The food was mediocre at best. But what really made my experience was this little pink-haired waitress. I cannot for the life of me remember her name, but damn her skill at serving was fantastic. The way she glides through the booths carrying 2-3 trays each time she came around. Despite her young appearance she was very knowledgeable about the alcoholic beverages. She said and I quote, "the blue pom margarita with salt on the rim" was her favorite.
