The ribblets on the left are exquisite and flavorful. The fried chicken on the right is a $2.99 special. The crust is right on.

I've been here over a dozen times and it's ALWAYS been top notch in food and service. I highly recommend both the ribblets and chicken. The macaroni and cheese is very creamy. The corn on the cob is very buttery. No need to talk about how clean this place is, the city inspection was A/100. This establishment is an example of how things should be done.

It's called Chatmans Chicken but, there's more here than meets the eye. Yes, the chicken is delicious, fresh, hot, and crispy; available in different flavors like, lemon pepper and spicy. A hidden treasure are the sides. The mac & cheese is savory and creamy The yams are yummy, not too sweet. A must try are the green beans, they They are divine.

Food is WONDERFUL. Fried okra was crispy like I love, chicken with spicy/lemon pepper combo amazing. Potato salad and Mac n cheese were tasty. Friendly atmosphere and owner/manager checked in often. Love this place and hate I didn't know about it sooner! I wanted a before photo but I destroyed the food before being able to. Trust me, it looked as delicious as it tasted!

Stopped by Chatman's Chicken after leaving school around dinner time, and it couldn't have been more convenient -- only about 10 minutes away and exactly what I was craving. I had been thinking about this spot since my last visit a few weeks ago, and it did not disappoint. This time I ordered the 8-piece dark meat with Lemon Pepper, and hands down -- they have this seasoning on lock. I'll be honest, I'm usually not a Lemon Pepper fan because it's often overdone or poorly balanced, but Chatman's absolutely nailed it. Perfectly seasoned, flavorful, and cooked just right. I also grabbed the red beans and rice, and wow... it hits harder than a church choir on Sunday. Fresh, rich, and full of flavor -- true comfort food done right. They were pretty busy when I stopped in, which says a lot about how good the food is. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and while I waited, one of the ladies even hooked me up with a red Kool-Aid. I'm not exaggerating when I say it brought back childhood memories -- that Kool-Aid was the real deal. Overall, the quality of the food for the price is more than worth it. Great food, great service, and genuine hospitality. I couldn't be more satisfied and will definitely be back.

Man oh man!!! That was some good chicken!!!!!!!! I've been living in Texas for about 7 years now, originally from NC, I haven't had chicken that good since I stepped off the place in 2018. We ordered the original 8 piece family meal mixed and it was sooo good. Seasoned well, fried hard, juicy meat. Everything you expect from a good piece of fried chicken, they had accomplished it all. The service was southern and hospitable and the ambience was great. We got our food fast and everyone was very helpful. When I'm in San Antonio, this will be my permanent chicken spot!!!!

Hands down best fried chicken I've ever had! I got the lemon pepper and spicy dark meat and both were sensational. Fried okra was hot and delicious, collard greens and Mac & cheese were excellent. I definitely recommend trying the corn fritters! And even the fries were fresh! So yummy! I'd give ten stars if I could. And the sweet tea was on point. Chatmans set the bar high for me. I'm very picky with my fried chicken and this place knocked it out the park!

Oh how I love those discoveries! I bookmarked this place a while back, it is too far of a drive but then on a Sunday evening I decided to just go drive there! I had to do the drive thru since they were getting ready to close. The man at the window was truly nice. I wanted the gizzards and all the other things they have. He politely told me they only have fried chicken left... bummer! I brought the food home which still tasted good! I had to peek and look at it before driving. It looked so crispy and fried to perfection! There will definitely be a next time! Go early and sit inside to eat the food and try the other things they have on the menu

I need to try the chicken next but today I got to try the riblet plate with 2 sides, potatoes and corn nuggets. Yum!!

Fantastic customer service. Extremely friendly staff. This was my first time going and I will definitely return. I couldn't make up my mind on my two sides for my plate so I ordered two additional sides. All delicious but I have to shout out the green beans and greens as they had great flavor. If you're a vegetarian there are plenty of options you can have here on their delicious sides.

We were told about this place and said it was the best friend chicken in town. We lived previously where we couldn't find much friend chicken so was excited to try it. First I want to say Thai place visually could make people think differently. It's not the cleanest and it is apparent it's an old establishment. With that being said... it's a little gem if you can get past that. Food was very tasty and the service was great! Very friendly folks! I haven't tried other fried chicken places yet other than chains sooo I can't say it's the best but it is definitely delicious.

Stopped for lunch with a coworker First things first...the man who served and took my order was phenomenal. Very polite, great service & even before I ordered, he offered a sample of a Pork fried Riblet....very tasty & will order next time. (I found out later that the man was Mr. Chapman himself) exactly what you'd hope to say when dealing with an owner. However, because of the name, I had to order the Chicken meal; -Chicken was hot, fresh & crispy-but no flavor...similar to Churches Chicken -Yams needed nutmeg -Collards were perfect! -Kool-Aid was good but could've used more sugar Overall, a good place to get a meal, especially if you're in the area. And, again, kudos to Mr. Chapman for taking an intentional effort in running a successful business!

What an experience San Antonio! I got to try the legendary Chatman's Chicken on the Eastside of San Antonio and I'm just floored by the delicious chicken I tasted! The owner Mr. Chatman is just an incredible human being and after talking with him for 5 minutes, I realized why this restaurant is so beloved. Every Tuesday, they have a $1.99 special for a two piece dark chicken. The Fried Riblets are so damn good and I also loved the Chicken Fried Steak! On top of all of that, they also have delicious sides with homemade Potato salad, Mac & cheese, and Mashed potatoes. Check this spot out when you get a chance San Antonio, we need more folks like Mr. Chatman in our communities Chatman's Chicken 1747 S. WW White Rd. I used to go very often. They're a little on the pricier side but so worth it. It's beautiful inside and outside. Staff very friendly and accommodating. I won't wait so long again to go back. My go to meal the is Howard. Scrambled eggs with crab topped with a lobster tail. So so good. Even the little bread/muffin basket they serve you before the meal is great. Lemonade is delicious. My son had pancakes and bacon and inhaled them. His mother always gets the pot roast. She wasn't disappointed. I will say although the gumbo is decent, it's not the best I've had. The roux is very dark which gives it a slight burned taste. But the flavors are there. All in all love Cappy's. I won't make the mistake of staying away so long again.

Unfortunately, the experience changed once we were seated. Our waiter was incredibly short and came across as rude throughout the meal. When we asked for recommendations or some of his favorite menu items, his response was essentially, "I don't know what you like," rather than offering any guidance. The service somehow felt rushed even though the food itself came out slowly, and there were very few check-ins during the meal. When it came time for dessert, we asked to see a dessert menu and were simply told, "It's on the menu you have," which summed up the lack of hospitality we experienced at the table. I ordered the Mustang Chicken, and unfortunately it was very disappointing. The chicken was fatty, full of tendon, and tasted more like a frozen piece of chicken that had been dropped into a deep fryer than something I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. It's disappointing because the restaurant has a great atmosphere and our experience at the bar started off so well. Unfortunately, between the table service and the quality of the food, I would not recommend Cappy's based on this visit.

Reservations: Made reservations online and the process was super easy. I'd recommend reserving ahead since the restaurant is on the smaller side. Service: Friendly, attentive staff. The restaurant is pretty small, though, and can feel a little crowded. We were seated next to the cashier area & felt less intimate. Food: vegetarian review Really good overall, especially if you like creative/seasonal dishes. We're vegetarian and had some good options. Great food, friendly service, and a nice intimate atmosphere for a date night. The small/crowded space is my only real negative. Would definitely try Magpie again!

Update to first review below, rating updated from a 3 to a 5 star (drinks & bartender would get 10+…read morestars if we could rate that high): Saturday night: Went back for after dinner drinks at the Downstairs (a "speakeasy" throwback, look up the history of the place to see why). Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)
