I had heard some people really enjoyed it there so I thought I would check it out. I was looking forward to it being a scratch kitchen and all. When we arrived the first thing we noticed was the floor seemed like it has grease all over it. Nothing that you could see but your shoes would slip a bit with Avery step. We arrived a bit after 7 pm on a Friday night and was to,d it was about a 45 min wait. It only ended up being about 20 min though. I am not sure if I waiter was not trained well or not suited for the work but service was not the best. We could see he was trying but we still needed to ask for many items. We had onion rings and a trio platter as appetizers but it was all very salty. My wife enjoyed the fish she ordered and I liked my salad and the cheesy broccoli was very good. It is had to believe they make the croissants from scratch. They were warm and flaky and from heaven. I enjoyed the fresh brewed tea also. I had the 12 oz ribeye which was very disappointing though. It was grisly, fat and very thin which makes it very difficult to cook medium to medium rare. It is too bad because with as many good places to eat in Appleton I will not likely stop back again. I must say that the prices were very reasonable but I would rather spend a little more and have a great meal. read more

I was very pleased with my first visit to this new restaurant. This is the first location for Cheddar's in Wisconsin and I was very happy to see that it was being built in our area. We had been to a Cheddar's in Daytona Beach FL and loved it. I ordered the Blackened Salmon and Shrimp and wasn't disappointed. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the shrimp were tender not tough. The meal arrived promptly and was hot. The drinks were delicious and all the courses were timely without any large time gaps. Our server was very friendly without being annoying. First time there for my family and I. We had heard good words about Cheddars. My family had the salmon, Monte Crisco sandwich and a steak. All said that the food was good except for the cole slaw which was absolutely dry and tasteless like they had forgotten to add sauce to it. My meal was a salad and mac n cheese. Nowhere on the menu did it say there was crumbled egg all over the salad, but I was able to get most of it off prior to putting the dressing on and the salad was good. I did not care for the mac and cheese at all. it was bland but had an aftertaste like water that broccoli had been boiled in. It was odd and made me nauseous. I had two bites and had the waitress take it away as my husband told her about the cole slaw and had it taken away. Not once did the waitress (Sierra) ask if i wanted something different. The restaurant was busy but not overly busy and we could see the staff standing and talking and leaning on the counter periodically. She only appeared for us again to give us the bill. I normally tip 20% regardless, but this one only got 15%. Hope some of it goes to the support staff. read more

my wife and i purchased a to-go order and arrived at the time they said it would be ready. waited an extra 20mins before it was given to us. hot items were cold and cold items were warm after inspection of order accuracy but everything was there. getting home, we find dead flies in my wife's salad and immediately called the restaurant. The manager I spoke to gave a very insincere apology and offered a gift card, but after providing my address/phone number and waiting 15 days we never received said gift card. this place is so poorly managed we won't be back and hope the health inspector comes through soon. read more

Wife wanted to check this place out yesterday. I'm a strict vegetarian (and I don't eat fried foods and avoid lactose), but I almost always can either find something on the menu that just requires a slight alteration (removing the cheese from something, subbing salad for fries, etc), or most menu's nowadays have at least one or two vegetarian meal options that aren't just a salad. As there was a 20 minute wait, I sat down, looked over the menu and unless I just wanted an air sandwich or pecan salad with nothing on it, there was absolutely nothing on there that I could eat.. all the apps are your typical deep fried grossness, or loaded with cheese and bacon (like the soups).... even a bean burger would have kept me there. Maybe my wife will try it someday on her own, but there is no reason at all for me to go there. Also, for some reason, they still don't list the appleton location on the website... its been several months now. So we just thanked the hostess and went to HuHot. read more

The food during our first visit was AMAZING. We got the croissants and they rocked. Our entrees and sides varied and most were perfect and quiet tasty. The portions were more than ample for price, and the quality was great. The second time we went we had a very long wait. Understandable--it was crazy busy. The food was just OK. Some of our sides were cold. I think this was due to how busy the place was. I say give this place a chance--but maybe try for a time that isn't as popular with other diners! read more

Ordered take home from cheddars this week since we had a gift card. We knew it wouldn't be as good as in house since but I'm glad we did it this way since it ended up being very subpar. The chicken strips were tough and stringy. Seemed like they had been under the heat lamp for a while. The sirloin steak had decent flavor but was also much tougher than usual. Onion rings were fine but lacked a simple salt flavor. The only really good thing was the coleslaw and that was the same as you can get anywhere else. read more

Alli was our server and did an absolutely amazing job even with there being a lot of us. She even made us a specialty drink that she had never heard of and did amazing. Stopped in for a late lunch today. Seated immediately in a nice, big booth. Server greeted us within 2 minutes and took our drink order after giving us a helpful 'first-timers tour' of the menu. Shared a Monte Crisco & Half Rack Ribs & Tenders. Drank one bottomless strawberry lemonade & one spiked cherry limeade. Great place for scratch comfort food. Three stars would be a bit generous however. Our service was just terrible. Even worse, we were presented with excuses every step of the way for it. The onion rings are fantastic! Apparently they are triple battered which is why they took nearly 20 minutes to come out; about three minutes prior to our entrees coming out. We had to constantly ask for the basics: refills, straws, plates, napkins, etc. at least twice before they eventually and sporadically got to the table. The additional gravy I asked for arrived with only a few remaining bites left on the plate. (They ran out and had to make more?). Finally, another 15-20 minutes to pay. It was ridiculous. So. Had lunch today at the bar. First comment is that the food was good and they actually had what I ordered. 2 of 4 visits resulted in me having to order something other than I wanted because they were out. Here's the rub. The bar was filthy. From my vantage the windows were behind the bar, and you could see everything. Crumbs of all types visible all over the bar to my left and right. Even on the seats. Note that it was 11:30am. Nobody cleaned those seats and the bar from the night before. So I asked the bartender about it. She claimed it was coconut. Gets everywhere (apparently even into the ice I was told) because of a drink they make with it. Ok. BUT some of those crumbs were NOT coconut. And even if they were, why not clean it or wipe it down? After that discourse with the bartender, there was NO effort to clean things up. Even the person I assumed was the manager didn't seem to notice (he had an earpiece and walked around a lot). Makes me question cleanliness overall. Won't be back. read more

Two of us went here on a Tuesday evening and it was not busy so we were seated right away. Then we waited, and waited some more. After about 5 minutes of sitting there a waitress finally told us she'd be right with us as she walked past our table. At least I think she was talking to us, as she sort of pointed to us as she was going past. Then she went over to the computer where the waitstaff places orders/processes bills, and proceeded to be over there for 10 minutes. We were in a corner booth and only a few other waitstaff rushed past with food during that time, so there wasn't a chance to flag someone down. After sitting for 15 minutes with no service what-so-ever we got up and left. I mentioned it to the three hostesses as we walked out and just got blank stares. We first went to Cheddar's shortly after it opened and had excellent, friendly service. We've been back several times since and it's been steadily going downhill (lackluster waitstaff, long waits for food), which is unfortunate as the food is decent and reasonably priced. read more

I went here because everyone I know raved about this place. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. We ordered cheese fries and curds for an appetizer, the curds were great the fries I could tell were old, the reheated to melt the cheese because they were hollow and still mostly cold so the cheese didn't melt. I ordered a steak which was ok nothing special, I got two sides with it. I ordered baked potatoe and mac and cheese. Waiter came out and told me the potato would be "a while" and offed to get me something else so I ordered mashed potatoes. My mac and cheese was so cold in the middle I could tell it was just barley re-heated and the mashed potatoes were also barely warm. For them to claim a made from scratch fresh made menu I can tell they are far from it and I would never recommend this place or go back. read more

I was so happy to see that Cheddars was coming to Appleton! I'd been to their southern locations and was so bummed that Wisconsin had been missing out. The interior is fully updated and modern, but still very comfortable, and perfect for casual dining. The menu has a lot of great options, and is perfect for groups as there's something for everyone -vegetarians and meat eaters alike. I myself had the tilapia with shrimp and mango salsa, and was very pleased. The dish came out hot and had lots of flavor. Something else that's special about this place is their honey drizzled crescent rolls, its something you won't see anywhere else! read more

The lady asked my wife if she wanted to enter in a drawing for a gift card. My wife said yes and the lady took her information. Turns out the lady was a beauty products sales person and unless my wife would schedule the "consult and trial", she couldn't get her $10 gift card. So, that was a deduction of 2 stars from the 5 star service and food. WOULD I RECOMMEND: YES for food, but beware of deceptive offers. read more

After there was no diet coke and no pot pie, which is why we went there in the first place, Theresa was asked to make another choice, well she chose something a bit more expensive. I certainly expected that when the check was delivered to me that there would be some sort of discount or something done with the bill because of all of these issues. We stopped in to try cheddar's today on their opening day. Wow, the place looks wonderful first of all, your greeted with a smile right away, we sat at the bar, there was no wait even though it really appeared to be busy. The staff were all smiling and kind, the drinks were delicious and reasonably priced! The chips and scratch, salsa and queso....yum!!! I'm always a bit worried trying new places right when they open up, but this place handled it so well. I am impressed! The bourbon glazed pork chop was on point and cooked perfectly! My fiance said the key west chicken and shrimp was cooked great as well, flavors were awesome! There was a slight mix up in the sides but it was very quickly taken care of and corrected. We very much looked forward to Cheddar's opening up in Appleton. We used to visit the Wichita KS location and enjoyed it. The Appleton location is having a very hard time. The food is inconsistent. Breading on the chicken fried chicken or steak and breading on the beer battered shrimp is too much and bland. Some food is fresh, some tastes like it's been sitting. Servers bringing out orders and missing item or items of food missing ingredients. I've seen signs at many restaurants trying to hire staff, maybe Cheddar's is having a hard time finding quality staff? It'll be a long time before we go back again. read more

First time here. Can tell that the staff is new and kind of frantic. That didn't bother me but other tables around us all looked pretty upset. Had the BBQ chicken and half rack of ribs. The half rack was more of a quarter rack. Both meats good but just expected more. The sides were the best. Broccoli casserole is a must. Fries are good. The Mac n cheese was kind of bland. Also was not ready when our food came out. Wife got salmon over rice. Average for the salmon and the rice it came on was bland. Didn't have any drinks but very fairly priced and can get speciality drink like Pina colada and hard iced teas. I'd go back after it's been open for awhile to try again. Slightly above average American food chain is how I would describe Cheddars. The menu has a few more elevated options than TGIFridays for example, but it's definitely the same general feel. Service was slow and our waitress seemed confused/frazzled through most of our meal. We stopped in on a weekday late afternoon, so it wasn't busy. Overall I thought the food sounded better on the menu than what I actually ate. The quality of the food that I expected from such a nice place was a little under par. The baked potatoes were super dry and super bland. The steak that I had got in my philly cheese steak sandwich was rather greasy and shiny. And the sweet iced tea that I got was very stale and tasted weeks old. I really wanted to love this place. We had a take out order. My husbands fried chicken was really really good. I ordered the ribeye. Medium rare. With pink. I received a thin little piece of practically beef jerky it was so tough and done. My husband had a loaded baked potato. It wasn't good. Maybe dining in is better. Overall the restaurant is very attractive and has a nice atmosphere. The food is even quite good. However, the service is beyond poor which I experienced on several visits. Unfortunately, this seems to be a common view of most people I have spoken to. Don't expect this place to make it unless things turn around. read more
