Atrocious, unacceptable, awful, unbelievable, unacceptable... does that get the point across?? These few words don't begin to sum up my experience today at Cheddar's. I understand that the restaurant is newly opened, but in no way shape or form is waiting over an hour and thirty minutes for food acceptable. Not only did we have to wait for food, we had to wait for drinks & any type of service. Our server was so inept it seemed like a moment on candid camera. She couldn't speak above a whisper in an extremely loud & bustling environment & then stood at the far end of the table to try and take orders from people farthest away from her. Common sense would say, walk around the table so you are sure to hear & be heard. No, not her. We sat & watched more than 5 tables around us come in well after us & receive their orders WAY before us. Our waitress still hasn't come back to check on us after getting our initial drink order. We haven't even seen her around to flag her down for refills, where has she gone? Is there a black hole in the back that has sucked her in?? When the waitress does show up, we comment about the wait & all she does is make excuses... we just want to eat, we have hungry restless kids with us. Find our food. I have been in lesser dining establishments where the manager is always walking around checking on things. Not here... we had to get up & hunt one down. Even then we were treated as though we were in the wrong. For being newly opened, I would think these managers & staff would be bending over backwards to make sure their guests were the happiest people in the world. Our food comes out & it is COLD! I can stick my finger in the soup & it isn't warm enough to make me pull back for fear of getting burned... How long does soup have to sit on the line to get that cold?! They fill our hearts with promise of hot food at this point & again, one would think they would take the unwanted, cold, bleak food away... no. Instead it sits there on the table mocking us. Our waitress comes back around & we ask her to take it away & her response is "you want me to box it up for you?" Really?!!! No, get it off the table & bring me something hot & nourishing. Two hours into our adventure we eat & all we hear from the staff is excuses. Please own your mistakes, don't try to pacify me & certainly don't patronize me. The food, when it finally came out right, was tasty, but the horrific service has left such a bitter & discouraging taste in our mouth, we will never be back & we have nothing positive to say. read more

OK where to start on this place I start with the good part which is a very small paragraph. The wait staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was awesome very clean. Now to move on with the bad, we sat down trying to figure out what we wanted it took about 10 minutes because there was so much on the menu i didn't even know where to begin. We got an appetizer which was terrible idea because we got cheese fries now knowing they would bring out this massive plate with fries, bacon and shredded cheese flowing over it like it was our last meal. It easily had over a lb of bacon and cheese on it, we only had about 5 bites on it before we couldn't eat it anymore. My eyes came across the Monte Cristo which i use to get all the time at Bennigan's which was amazing it was crispy cheesy and had three different types of meat which was one of my favorites foods for the longest times until they shut them all down which broke my heart. Anyways back to Cheddar's i ordered it thinking it was the same thing but when i got it i was very surprised to see something that was nothing like i had got before being a very optimistic person i bit into it which immediately through me into a loop because it was soggy cold meat inside and cold cheese which is crazy because it was melted. I was so sad that it wasn't crunchy at all even though it was fried and being in the food service business now 10 years i was truly shocked that they messed this great sandwich up so bad. My wife got the Napa chicken ciabatta which don't get me wrong it was good sandwich but they put so much mayonnaise on it i couldn't even tell that there was chicken, soggy tomatoes, nasty avocados it was just down rite wrong and somebody needs to relearn how to make such a simple sandwich. I had such high hopes for the restaurant but was completely proven wrong i don't recommend this place to anybody at all if you want to feel greasy, sick and just down rite miserable then this is your place. read more

We stopped by on Mother's Day evening to hopefully enjoy a good meal. Naturally, this place was busy and rightfully so because of the Mother's Day crowd. But, everything fell apart after waiting 30 minutes to then find out our table has been pushed back at least 45 more minutes. We happened to find this out when asking the hostess but we saw other parties getting texted about the inconvenience. I never got my text and I gave them my cell number as asked when they first took my name and party size. So maybe take-out is an option? Negative. The staff up front exclaimed they stopped taking to-go orders for the rest of the evening (it was 7:45pm when we asked). So at this point, it wasn't worth it to give this place a chance, no matter how good their food may taste. I can expect a little inconvenience on any other day, but on Mother's Day I expect a restaurant to have all-hands-on-deck to serve to as many people as possible. This day can be considered as one of their top sales days but failure to plan and execute is their loss. Hopefully Cheddar's Corporate will read my review and do something about it... read more

This location isnt as good as others. To begin, several parking lot lights were burned out making it a very dark--and dangerous--walk into the restaurant. Our waitress was overwhelmed with her tables so that we had to flag her down for our croissant and drink refills. The broccoli casserole was barely warm. The green beans were sweet. The hot tea was a regular Lipton bag. That said, a less than stellar meal at Cheddars is still better than most other restaurants costing double. The salmon is tremendous, the rice is the only rice I will eat, and the croissants are light, fluffy and buttery. The prices are fair and the food is great. The last is a suggestion for servers--please do not bus my table while Im still there. I dont appreciate having to gather up my plates in order to hand them to you. If Im still at the table, I havent completed my meal and I am still enjoying the company of those Im with. Bussing the table interrupts my conversations and is upsetting. Me no likey dat. read more

Never again. We went for a drink and appetizers. It was 10pm but they are open until 11 and there were other people in the restaurant. It took at least 10 mins for anyone to even talk to us. We ordered a drink which took another 10 mins. Another couple came in about 20 mins after us and they got their apps AND entrees before we even got our appetizer. When the plate did finally come out the nachos and potato wedges were cold. I understand getting that kind of service when it's FULL and very busy but there were only 3 tables in the bar. If there was one thing I had to complain about the Cheddar's in Selma, it would be the waiting; yet it gets busy a lot and every time I've passed the restaurant, there are always lots of cars there so I don't blame them. Unlike the other reviews, the times I've been here, I ordered the chicken fried steak, and it has tasted good every time. The sides that come with the steak also taste good and we also have gotten onion rings as an appetizer which were pretty tasty, and the prices are reasonable too. The service is alright, but overall I would come here again and again. However, I would recommend to arrive early for lunch because like I said it does get crowded. read more

Normally enjoy the place but when we first walk in we were offered a high top no problem although I am a double amputee veteran who this would be uncomfortable for and was clearly wearing shorts. Then a young guy comes in and says we may need to order from the bar directly but he would check..he then comes back and let's the bartender know we would be ordering from him and the bartender says "no I have these three already" we promptly left. This location had plenty of tables and was modernly decorated. The menu is extensive with a huge array of sides and options available for all diets. We ordered bbq chicken nachos and asked for the bacon on the side which came out with none at all. This leads into how forgetful/inattentive our server was. He was nice and all but the service was lacking. When we asked about the bacon coming on the side he said he would grab it, it never came. The food was decent and the portions were large enough to share. The prices were pretty reasonable as well. What really drove me crazy was that there were plenty of tables that hadn't been bussed the entire time we were there. It was gross looking at a bunch of tables covered in dirty dishes and servers walking by it ignoring it. As we got done with plates we stacked them up and our server still ignored it. It ain't the Worst, but it ain't the Best either! You know those places that have all the elements to be phenomenal, but for some reason just cant seem to get there? Cheddar's is that place. The place is always packed, and the parking lot is a mad house, but somehow, they always seem to be able to seat you quickly. Most of the time. Sometimes, not so fast. Whats the secret hour? Cant figure it out. The menu is large and has some really interesting items that should please just about anybody, and the waiters get to you pretty fast with drinks - and then - poof - they disappear. Once they do take your order, it seems to take forever to come out of the kitchen, and the food comes out at odd times, or wrong, or cold, or some combination there of. Prices are okay for food of this type (unless its wrong, of course) but there seems to be this pervasive awkwardness that they just cant seem to get past. I'll try it a few more times, but for now, I'm having a hard time recommending it. There are worse places around San Antonio, but there definitely better places in this Genre as well. read more

We visited Cheddar's on 8/7/19. We were seated in the back area where the larger groups were seated. We sat for 10 minutes and no server ever came to our table, nor did the servers serving surrounding tables even acknowledged us. I suppose we were invisible. I tracked down the manager on duty who then started our drink order. We were eventually given a server who was very polite and quite attentive. We ordered and our food soup and salad arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Luckily mine came with a spoon; however, my husband then had to try and flag a server for silverware for the both of us. Our food arrived and mine was fine, but my husband was missing an item off his plate. Though the food was good, the service was extremely disappointing. Cheddar's needs to improve their server training to include noticing guests and at least letting their manager know that people are without a server. We got seated very quickly and before we even sat down our server was already asking what we wanted to drink and what we wanted for apps... we didn't even look at the menus. She came back a couple more times and it felt very rushed! Our server Caitlyn micscomunnicated with us that she was replacing all of our sides with just a salad, when we clearly asked for her to add it to replace one side. When asked about it she became very defensive about it and argued a little bit which we didn't appreciate. (Bad customer service!) He had some problem with another table and couldn't figure out their bill. He brought our app and my salad. Said he would go back and get the croissant but never did. Must have fired everyone and started over! Slow, no hostess, then no Waiter, then the Bar drink was not right, no pomegranate in it! Dinner salad came floating in Ranch when we asked for it on the side. Some tables got bread on a plate by itself, ours was stuck in the salad dressing! My husband and I were celebrating our 51st wedding anniversary so, as we've done many years in the past, we went to Cheddars. I had always loved the food and the service was usually good. Today I ordered the fried chicken plate. After the first bite the waitress came by and I told her that I got a wrong order because the chicken was spicy. She told me I was wrong that it was just regular chicken. I am not usually a complainer so I persevered and ate over half of it but it was truly awful. I actually started spitting bites into my napkin because in places it was a strange spongy texture. I finally gave up but when she came back I complained again. She had the manager come over. He just shrugged and told me corporate had changed the chicken and now send it out spicy like that. He said he's had several complaints but he actually acted like he couldn't care less. I double checked the menu and it does not say anything about the chicken being spiced like that. So I guess Cheddars is off our list because this is a 3rd strIke. We got a terrible order from them on takeout last year. Then we went back after getting our COVID vaccinations but the ribs I got were dry and now the chicken is awful. I have been a regular since they opened. Have been on Saturday evening and Sunday at noon. Sat night got right in. Excellent service from Jennifer. Always the same top quality menu items and I try most. Like lunch sized portions at all times. They kept drinks refilled continuously which is rare in many places. Wait staff Always checks food quality satisfaction after being served. I have never found a reason to complain. Also found same quality at l-10 location. By the way I usually not a fan of chain restaurants but this stays on my list! read more

I've been to this restaurant about 6 times now and won't be going back. I wouldn't have gone a sixth time, but family members chose the restaurant. The food is unremarkable. They don't have anything on their menu that I would get hungry for and that would make me want to go back ! The last visit, I ordered a steak and it was very tough and undercooked. Their chicken-pot-pie has an odd taste. The inexperienced waiters seem to be trying to do their job. I blame the management. Beverages and ice seem to be an issue. On one visit we asked for more ice in a glass of tea and were told that the manager wouldn't allow them to give ice refills. This last time, two of us ordered ice tea and one came out in a broken glass! The tea was extremely weak with only a little ice floating on the top. We complained about the weak tea when we sent the broken glass back, but were told that's the way they make it. No refills were offered. I don't like the food or the service at Cheddar's and wouldn't waste my time or money going back. read more

Yes, the food is good and yes, it is very fair pricing. A nice meal for a good price. Cheaper than most places like it. However, the service at this location is just terrible. This is not a one time experience. Time and time again, we say, let's give that spot another chance. Every time, we regret it. Today was the last time. I would rather drive to the Cheddars across town than visit this location again. No good tasting bargain is worth being ignored by a dozen servers. I've never even seen a manager around. As a Yelp Elite I want to be a good yelper and give this place the review they deserve. I don't know why the reviews were so bad. I read the reviews, worried that we would be disappointed in our experience. I hadn't been here in years and my husband hadn't been here at all. Our server (crap, I forgot her name and she was so sweet). She was amazing and checked on us many times, was so good to my child, and was very attentive. We started off with some of their amazing honey butter croissants. Which were piping hot, soft and sweet. But most importantly, delicious. We also ordered the Wisconsin cheese bites with marinara for an appetizer. Those were piping hot as well. Perfectly crisp and so ooey gooey cheesy. I got the lunch combination with the half blackened shrimp Alfredo and a Caesar salad for no more than 10 bucks. The Alfredo was okay and the Caesar salad was good. But I wouldn't expect more for such a small price. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak. This was cooked to perfection with the perfect crispy batter. I ordered a side of Mac and cheese for my son. The server brought it out first so he didn't have to wait. Which was so sweet of her to do for us. (He's always hungry) My husband loved those honey butter croissants so so much, that before we left he ordered another batch to go. Our server was So So kind to bring a full order to go, PLUS two extra ones that he could eat at the restaurant. She was amazing. We had an amazing experience despite of all the negative and awful reviews people have been posting. I came during lunch so I don't know how much of a difference that made. This was once a great restaurant, but it has been going downhill for some time... I blame the management! I went there Thursday for the last time and after the dinner rush, around 8:30pm my family got their salads immediately but waited for 30 minutes for the rest of our food. I could almost understand if it was busy, but it wasn't. After I requested the manager he brought out the food but didn't identify himself as a manager, he asked if we needed anything and I asked for a refill and he completely forgot. Piss poor service and there has been a trend and decline in service for some time! No spoon to eat my corn or apples with. My son had the Chicken Fried Steak and he couldn't eat it. We had lunch here this past Saturday and both had the chicken tender platter. We also had cocktails which we found to be good and reasonably priced. The food itself was average and a bit over cooked but considering everything was priced so reasonable we didn't mind. Our waitress (Rae) was very attentive and friendly. Service is TERRIBLE! Decided to give this place another try..... So disappointing! Asked if I could get a sandwich minus the cheese and was told no that the sandwiches are pre-made. What happened to being a scratch kitchen? Asked for butter and was told they were out so they would have to make more. At the end of our meal they brought out frozen butter. Doesn't sound so homemade to me... Never once were we asked if we wanted a refill. My salad had brown lettuce in it. My sandwich came out ice cold in the middle. Told our server, Heather, and she said, "Okay do you want something else?" That was it, she never apologized. Soup came out lukewarm and my husband's sandwich was soggy and the melted cheese had already hardened on his Philly cheesesteak. My husband never complains about food and he was disgusted. We will never go back to this place again. They did take my sandwich off of the bill. I only took one bite. We have never left a restaurant without leaving a tip......until now...... Cheddars used to be a go to restaurant for my husband and I, but I don't think we'll be going back anytime soon. Service was good, but our food was awful and you can tell they are cutting corners with portions and quality. My husband ordered a fried chicken salad and it came with a handful of lettuce and probably 1 chicken tender cut into small pieces. A salad that used to be enough for a full dinner for a grown man is now little more than a side salad with some chicken crumbles. Disappointing read more

THis place is ok for a chain. I met some out of town family members there, because it was conviently located. The food was good and drinks were as well, but there's not much alcohol in the drinks so you end up drinking a lot of calories.
