I ordered cheesecake with my family tonight, and the website said the hours were until 10:00pm. We get there to pick it up at 9:20pm, where we were told they were closed. I had already paid for the cheesecake, and they wouldnt even just hand me my order. I feel that unfortunately, the way customer service handled this situation was extremely unprofessional. Even upon asking how to get my money back, we were asked to come back tomorrow, and we are not from the area. Every city has its institutions, and CbA is a classic. Tucked into S. Elm St. downtown, this dessert bar and cafe offers tasty treats (best cheesecakes around), fresh pastries, and an array of hot drinks. The inside is a bit labyrinthine and doesn't offer a ton of space, so it gets a tad crowded and loud, especially on summer nights. But if you're just looking to grab a sweet treat, there are few like it. The staff is always friendly and offer great tips on which savories and sugaries you should get. This is definitely one of my local favorites! The downtown Greensboro location is very cozy, inviting, and surprisingly spacious. While they have tons of treats to choose from, the specialty cheesecakes and cupcakes are my go to items. Their drinks (coffees, lattes, etc.) are also really good. Like I mentioned, this shop has plenty of space. There are study stations up front and several tables in the room to the side. I haven't made it over to the Winston-Salem location yet, but my dad often drives across town for their cakes. I think it's safe to say the Winston location is just as great as the Greensboro shop. read more

What can I say? If I want cheesecake I'm definitely headed to cheesecakes by Alex in downtown Greensboro. The cheesecakes are always spot on. My daughter's favorite birthday cake is generally a cheesecake so for her 30th birthday she requested a chocolate turtle cheesecake. I was out of town when I needed to order her cake but a quick phone call to Cheesecakes by Alex and the order was placed. The young lady that took my order was friendly and helpful over the phone. When I picked the cake up, it was done perfectly. My only complaint about Cheesecakes by Alex is the area where you can sit doesn't have a lot of atmosphere. I usually get my cheesecake to go because of this. If I could ask one thing of them, it would be to spiff up your restaurant section and make it more appealing for your customers. I mean, it's cheesecake. Delish! Service is great, selection is fantastic! So many options! The table seating leaves a bit to be desired - it was dark (late evening) when we were there and it was dark in the seating area. Also, felt cold and sterile - cement floors, linoleum tables, metal chairs - I'm sure these are easy to clean but not comfortable and did not feel inviting to sit and eat. I'm not usually a cheesecake fan but my sweet tooth activated and this was walking distance from my hotel in downtown Greensboro. I love sweet potato pie and I'm a huge fan of bananas. I got the sweet potato cheesecake and the bananas foster cheesecake. Both were solid slices for cheesecake. The banana foster is more banana pudding forward than a traditional bananas foster flavor and even has real visible bananas inside the cake. The sweet potato was the star of the show for me! The pecan streusel topping complimented the spiced sweet potato.. it was like eating my own homemade sweet potato soufflé. I think I wanna try the blue velvet cake next time! Cheesecakes by Alex is definitely on our radar as one of the best in the triad to give us our sugar fix. If we are in the downtown vicinity, this spot is a MUST for us. And don't let the name fool you - they have such a wide variety of desserts we never have to try the same thing twice! (Although the strawberry red velvet is always a favorite of ours - and clearly I couldn't wait to dig in before a pic lol.) They coffees are also great. We ordered an iced mocha late with the toffee crunch "shot" and it was heavenly. A cup of this stuff to go with your dessert = PERFECTION! The only reason we give 4 stars is because they forgot to put a few items in our bag the last time we were there, but they were super busy and we should have checked the bag before we left. If you have a sweet tooth and stumble into Greensboro, you have to come here. While I am not a big sweets person, you can't resist this place. As you can see from my pictures, they have more than just cheesecake. I got a snickerdoodle cookie and a German chocolate cake for my father. I also got a coffee which was perfect for today's chill. Everyone was very nice and I decided that Cheesecake for Breakfast was a superb plan. Settled on the blueberry and it was the greatest idea I had all day. That being said, the space is warm and welcoming, even if the service can be slow at times - you won't feel rushed. The coffee is from Fortuna so it is excellent and their low-sugar/sugar-free choices are okay, if unimaginative (rarely see many changes--how about a Key Lime Sugar-Free Cheesecake Alex?) Friday and Saturday nights they will run out of flavors - and suggesting I buy a small cheesecake when they are out of slices is not the best option for someone who occasionally gets sugar-free slices--I am just saying! In addition to about 20 flavors of cheesecake, they sell an assortment of cookies, brownies, cake slices, ice cream, and pastries. They also offer coffee, espresso, teas, smoothies, and shakes. After much deliberation, I decided on a slice of the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake with a blood orange Italian cream soda. My husband opted for the cookies and cream cheesecake. Both cheesecake slices were perfectly creamy and sweet, not dry at all. If you're considering a cold drink, the Italian cream soda was tart and provided a nice contrast. I went by to pick up an order of cheesecake for a co worker and it was my first time going to Cheesecakes by Alex. The store is cute and neatly displayed. I also got 6 chocolate chip cookies to try (only 1 for me ) and it was good.. honestly not as good as others but it was good; not sure if there are oats in it but almost tasted like it had some in it. The cheesecake I picked up was keto/sugar free vanilla, so at least they are able to make custom orders like that. read more

We ended up here by accident, however, we were not mad at our decision. The service was a little cut and dry, but it is what it is, especially with a serve by the slice place. Also, not to be a Karen but it was a little louder in here than what I expected, definitely would not pick this place for a quiet desert experience. Other than that the desserts were amazing. Great bakery and cafe! I ordered two different pieces of cheesecake for myself and LOVED the crème brûlée so smooth and even in flavoring! I would highly recommend. The other kind I got was bourbon butter pecan and that was good too, I don't think you could make a bad choice. It's not very often that you see a dessert shop specializing in the decadent cheesecakes. This place knows how to make exceptionally light and airy cheesecakes with the proper amount of contrasting elements from the crust and toppings to make an exceptional slice. With COVID, there is no indoor seating so everything is to-go at the moment. However, it's in the middle of Downtown Greensboro so you can head over to the park or just eat it outside of the store if you're too impatient to wait which is what I did. I ended up getting the Sweet Potato Souffle Cheesecake since it is still seasonal, but something different from pumpkin. It hit all the right notes and had a nice crumble on top with the classic autumn spices. The sweet potato added a nice essence and was not overpowering at all, but distinct enough to know it wasn't pumpkin. I really enjoyed it and scarfed it down since it was too good! Obviously known for their cheesecake, but they also offer coffee and tea drinks, cakes, cookies, brownies, etc. By far the best cheesecake you can find in Greensboro. They have a variety of flavors from fruity, chocolates, traditional, and even specialty/seasoning cheesecakes. Very fair price ($4.45/slice) for a good, thick sized piece. A good feature is buying cheesecake as a whole (5", 7", 9"). Coffee is great as well, brewed in house and very smooth. The best thing about this place is the service. The staff are always welcoming and definitely patient when it comes to choosing the type of cake you want. The lightest cheesecake was the the banana foster flavor and you can definitely taste the banana in the cheesecake but my favorite flavor was the chocolate swirl cheesecake. That growth hasn't gone unnoticed in the food; they went through periods where I could taste that they had become less hand crafted. However, I believe they've sorted any of that out these days and although it may be turning out cheesecakes for half the restaurants in the Triad, they all taste just as amazing as ever. Obviously, the cheesecake is the thing but don't overlook their other treats. Kids love the red velvet cake and/or cupcakes. We just got back to school cupcakes this week and they were a huge hit. Was able to stop by Cheesecakes by Alex for the first time at the downtown 4th of July parade! It was just as delicious as I expected. I got the Chocolate Brownie Turtle, Simply Chocolate, and then the KAHLUA Espresso to go. If you cannot tell, I'm a huge chocolate cheesecake lover. I could not pick a favorite, the Chocolate Brownie Turtle is perfect with a thin enough brownie crust that perfectly compliments the cheesecake. The KAHLUA Espresso hits you in the face with the espresso and the KAHLUA comes through as well - it's just delightful! And then the Simply Chocolate is simply amazing on its own. The ganache on top is beautiful. I wish I lived in Greensboro so I could come every week for try all the flavors! This cheesecake is the real deal. read more
