Cute and small place! The cheesecake was really good. Very light and fluffy. The service was good too and the staff answered all our questions about the cakes and everything. Got the last slice of Cheesetella from the sheet and it's better when its fresh from the oven. Nothing super special about the cake. It's just like any other Japanese sponge/cheese cake. My only gripe was the girl packing the slices. After I ordered, they got busy and about 8 or so orders came in. She was sooo slow to package the cakes like she had no sense of urgency. Everyone around me were getting impatient as she took forever, especially since it was freezing outside. She also had a bandaid on and didn't even have a glove or finger cot on. She didnt touch the cake with her bandaid finger but she still touched the paper and the bread glove that touched the cakes. Her hair wasn't tied up. Just super unsanitary in my opinion (I've worked in food service for 5 years, I know what you're supposed to do.) If they're going to have a big window for customers to see the process, then maybe keep that in mind. They also need a better system of keeping track of the orders instead of just placing the receipts on the table. They skipped my order because the receipts got mixed up and they called the same number twice not paying attention to what they gave out. Went there on Grand opening day and order a chocostella and it was actually not bad, could you use a bit more sugar...you know fat people craving like myself. They offered me free ice cream but it was too early for me to be eating ice cream so they gave me a Vietnamese coffee which was great. I've heard and seen only videos of these fluffy Korean/Japanese (not sure which) cheesecakes on social media. I am so glad that finally there is a spot opening up close to my house. My first impression about Cheesetella Buena Park/The Source is the high end decoration. The flower wall is very beautiful. Everything is 24k gold plated from the signs to tables and chairs. The brown bear in the front looks pretty cute. I secretly wanted to jack it. The wait was quite long, but it's expected. I got to try the Castella original and Creamstella slides. It was very good with hot tea. My only regret was that I was not able to wait around for the round Cheesetella cake. It would be my goal to try it next time I am at The Source OC. read more

Not sure why so many negative reviews. I'm addicted to the original recipe. It is way better when it's fresh out of the oven. I recommend calling in advance and reserving bread as they sell out fast. Other than that, employees have been pretty friendly. Never had any issues. And it's different than a castella from paris baguette or whatever. It's a lot fluffier and has more eggs I believe. The wife and I did like the cakes they had. We were very disappointed they didn't have the creamtella cake. Seems to me that, this is the one that sells out the fastest. I was thinking they'd at least use premium cheddar cheese, but I was left to think they were just grocery store singles cheese.
