I called in 2 cheesetellas and 1 cheesecake on New Years Day and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all friends and family. Especially the Japanese cheesecake! It was so light and fluffy and just sweet enough. The cheesetella is just okay, I probably wouldn't order it again. To put it plainly, it just melted kraft singles wedged inside fluffy bread. I do wish that they had a bigger store, as no more than 3 people can step inside at a time to order/pick up and it is super cold these days! They do have a little seating area on one facade of the store that's decorated nicely with pink blossoms on the walls, but it really is more of a takeout dessert place. Hot out of the oven, you can grab this soft airy yet moist cake. If you never had castella, it's an eggy angel food like cake. I only had the original (I like it simple). Perfect with a nice cup of tea. The last time I was there, it took forever to ring up three customers (2 of my friends and I bought a loaf each). The only recommendation is training the worker or hire someone with more common sense. After you order and pay, they will ask you if you want your receipt then say yes and **Make sure to keep your receipt** There is number on the receipt and they will ask you for your number and to show them your receipt when they forget your order. My order took forever to come out. Asked them for it and was told that they took my order but never charged my card ( i did sign their system after my card was charged) Had to go through their system to actually prove that my card was charged but the lady still wanted to argue with me. My friend ordered 2 and same thing happened. Had to raise my voice telling her that she never gave us the the receipt. After i got angry at them, they found the order sheet and gave us what we paid for. This Cheesetella opened up recently in The Source in Buena Park. It's a tiny, hole-in-the-wall bakery on the ground level that specializes in 1 type of cake, the light and fluffy spongecake. I stopped by at 5 PM on Sunday for a to-go order, and there was no line at all (lots of others comment about a wait, not on this day). I walked up, ordered, and got my item immediately. Today I selected the Cheesetella, a light and fluffy spongecake with a thin layer of cheddar cheese halfway up. It did taste like cheddar, but also reminded me of American in terms of consistency. For the flavor, the spongecake itself was slightly sweet and good. However I did not like the salty + sweet combination. Why is the sweet and salty combination so popular in Asian cuisine? These fluffy Japanese cheesecakes have been hyped up with all these food videos about it. But I have to say, it's not as great as I thought it would be. Also, it is best you get here early because they can run out! Sometimes you do have to wait. I've tried their original, chocotella and cheesecake. They all remind me of angel cake, but fluffier and airy. The chocotella wasn't as sweet as I expected. Myself and other people thought it needed more sugar. They told me it would take 5 mins. 30 minutes later they said it was coming out of the oven and they needed 5 minutes. 15 minutes later, they never called my number. Asked if it was done, they brought it out. I asked if the cheesetella was real cheddar cheese because i hated american cheese and they said it was. Low and behold it was american cheese. A lot of the negative reviews are because of the wait for some of the cakes. My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday around 6pm and were able to get one cheesetella with no wait. You can look inside to see what cakes are available right away. The cheesetella was SO FLUFFY, soft, and airy. I really enjoyed the sweetness of the cake and the saltiness of the cheddar. For $8.50 a slice, I thought that the price was very hefty, but once I got it... I saw that it was HUGE! It's big enough for 4+ people. I shared it with my sister, her boyfriend, brother, my boyfriend, and still had left overs. I can see people being very upset coming and not seeing what they want available and having to wait 30+ minutes... but this store is SO SMALL. The slices are HUGE so I am sure they sell them quickly. Cheesetella is really really good!!! However, this place has huge operational problems. I understand that this place is small, and the ovens at this place is not very capacious. I think if the owner would just be honest and explain that to the customer and provided an actual and honest wait time, this place would have a much better review than it does currently. Don't say it will be 15 minutes and have customers linger in front of the store for 30 minutes. I went home after placing an order and came back an hour and a half later (5:45) to pick up my order and had to wait more than 30 minutes (so far) more because my order was not ready. I don't mind waiting an hour and a half for some stuff I want because I was told to wait an hour and a half and I agreed on it. Note to the owner, stop lying to customers. Yesss, fluffy goodness indeed! I stumbled across this dessert spot while walking around "the Source" plaza in Buena Park. I absolutely love cheesecakes and especially the moist, fluffy ones! I ended up ordering one cake ($12) to bring home and I absolutely loved it! They add some powdered sugar on top, and the texture was just perfect. Moist and delicious. Tried the regular cheesetella with the cheddar cheese inside. It's in the name! So you must order it. The mix of savory cheddar and sweetness was awesome. First off waiting 30+ minutes for a cake is ridiculous not to mention that none of cakes are ready or they won't serve part of their menu after a certain time. I had higher expectations. The wait for their original cake is averaging around 30-40 minutes. Not sure if it's worth the wait. It is located in a cute new mall so you can shop while you wait. Since I did not want to wait I got the Japanese cheesecake. After having uncle tetsu, this one was very disappointing. It was not fluffy, quite dense actually for having the egg whites separated. It has the texture and density of an angel cake, while good but not what I was wanting from a Japanese cheesecake. Also, the price.
