I called in my order for pick-up. I ordered broccoli in oyster sauce, shrimp fried rice, salt & pepper chicken, and fried prawns. When I got home & fixed my daughter & I plate, I found a pitcher bug in my food. I called the rsdrestaurant immediately & let them know what I found in my food & stated I wanted a refund & I'm on my way to return the food. The lady i spoke with asked which entree had the bug, I told her I didn't know. I'm not eating any of it & will like a full refund. I've attached a picture of the pitcher bug I found in my food. This place is perfect! The food is great, the service is outstanding. I'm not sure why people is not giving this place 5 stars. They have been struggling during COVID and they still rise and shine and support the community. They are really friendly and very open to talk, but don't try to do that when they are crowded :) The key point to to ask for what you want, either you want it less salty, less sauce soy or more sweet. if you don't speak up no one will know, and everyone's taste is different. I can't believe I have never tried this place until now. This is a hidden gem located at the furthest end in the same parking lot as Target but near the lamp store. I was able to place my order online and waited a few before it was ready. I ordered the salt and pepper pork chops, honey walnut shrimp, combo chow fun, chicken and green beans, and pot stickers. The food was piping hot when we got home and I made my own rice. The chicken and green beans were really good! Cooked perfectly, I hate overcooked green beans! The chow fun was pretty good too with flavor. The pork chops needed more flavor, more salt, more pepper. It has potential. The walnut prawns were okay, it needed to be crispy the batter was a bit soggy. Potstickers were good snd had a great dipping sauce. Overall solid place and will definitely be coming back for more. For all the years I've lived in the area I would drive past Chef Choy but never made it in. A friend who lived in Martinez told me she liked Chef Choy and would eat it on occasion. Well after 17 years, I finally suggested that we order dinner to go after a long day at a sports tournament. Chef Choy has a very friendly staff and the wait time was probably about 15 minutes which was great. Parking is a breeze as it is located in the small plaza where Lamps Plus is anchored on Contra Costa Blvd. As we waited, you could tell that the customers who were dining in were regulars. That's always a good sign. The decor is traditional Chinese. I did like the archway entrance. The rug is old and dated. Almost something you would see at an older casino. The prices are decent for the amount of food you get. But the food is just average. Their sauces (although tasty) could be better. The szechuan chicken (the pieces were awkwardly shaped to eat!) and combination egg fu yung had gloppy, clumpy sauces for lack of better words. Sauces that were almost slimy. And they didn't devein the shrimp so that was a big turn off. I had high hopes for the salt and pepper fish fillet but the batter was too thick and there was no flavor. It was totally bland. I'd say the combination fried rice and the beef chow mein were the stars of our meal. I guess two out of five isn't that bad. Don't get me wrong. Some of their dishes are tasty. Maybe we chose the wrong items? I may come back to try other dishes to give this place another chance. read more

It's still the same decor and the owner Sam came over to see us and still recognized my son and I. That's pretty good for it being nearly a decade. The lunch specials are always great, they have pretty much everything you can think of to choose from. I enjoyed the Honey Walnut Prawns lunch with steamed rice, my son had his normal Broccoli Beef with Fried Rice and I also got an appetizer of BBQ Pork. That is definitely my favorite, they don't put any type of sauce over it besides sesame seeds, a little too much but it's easy to shake off. We driven by Chef Choy many times over the years, but never dined there until recently. We went only because Fat Baguette Lounge was not open. It was early, not quite 5:00 PM. But already there were several occupied tables. We found the service to be friendly. While some of the decor was in need of updating ... specifically the carpet and the odd chairs with wheels! (Young kids who are quickly bored with dinner and chairs that wheel are not a good combination.) But the bottom line was the food which more than exceeded our expectations. Portions were very large. Soup, two entrees, and rice left DH and me with enough "take home" for another. The food did not heat up particularly well. Next time we will probably have soup and share one entree.
