The girl behind the counter was accommodating in explaining some of the different foods they specialized in. I trusted her and ordered both the pork and chicken tamales, which were terrific prices and tasted perfect. Freshly baked, warm tamales with tender meat in every bite, almost like a patty, marinated in their respective sauces. This simple delight speaks directly to the soul. Great store! Parents have ALWAYS gone here even after moving to garden grove. We still drive there after 30+ yrs. They now take credit/debit YAY!! If you want nice warm bread try going in the evening or call right before making the trip. They will even let you know about what time the bread will be out. The best Pan Dulce in the area! My parents used to make it a bi-weekly habit of going to Chelo's once we were out we'd head over again. The family owned business is how they treat their customers just like family. Once you park outside you can smell the goodness and then you walk inside a see all the Pan Dulce you can't make up your mind of what you want with all the choices. Love this place! read more

I have gotten all my party cakes here. I always get compliments on the cake. The banana filling is the best! My husband and I recently got married and ordered our wedding cake here it was the best price. It was so good I didn't want to put it down during the cake cutting. The only thing to be careful with is to be very clear on how you want your cake decorated and if you want anything spelled out what language you want it in Spanish or English. Bread was super hard and when I asked if they had fresh bread coming out they said that was it for the day and I went at 8 in the morning.... um so what kind of Mexican bakery doesn't have fresh bread? I have been coming here for years. I have seen this place REALLY do down hill. Today I go in to get some mexican bread and the selection was horrible...AGAIN. I mean 7:50 and hardly anything and nothing being baked in the back. I still bought 4 different pieces and the quality too was bad. Ohhhh grandma Chelo what happened to your place?
