After a few regular menu meals, we went back to try the lunch buffet and I'm so glad we did. I am not that familiar with southern Indian cooking and really only knew the Dosas. This was a good way to try new things even though I'm not usually a buffet fan. Tried a little bit of everything and it was all good and spicy. Plus you get a dosa of your choice on top of the different food options. There was a delicious tomato based soup and the bindi masala was great - I had to have seconds. Disgusting service. We ordered 3 dosas, 2 of which were the same order and waited a solid 45 minutes. We asked a few times and they kept telling us it's coming. Every other table, including several seated after we arrived, were served their orders. We left before we got our food because of how long it was taking and the lack of care on their part. The lunch buffet value is outrageous. $10 for all that food is a steal. And it's very tasty food. First, you have a fairly extensive array of items to choose from at the buffet. The day I went there was Rasam, Sambar, Pongal, Idli, White Rice, Lemon Rice, Spinach Pakoras, Muttar Paneer, Squash Curry, several curries I can't quite recall, and a good amount of chutneys and sauces. There's also a little dessert area with Carrot Halwa and some Ice Cream. I liked everything in the buffet, but the Idli smothered in Coconut Chutney, the Pongal, and Squash Curry were standouts. Be sure not to stuff yourself at the buffet (a very easy thing to do), because you actually get an entire dosa with the buffet price too! No joke! I had the Butter Masala Dosa which was very good, again, with a huge choice of sauces and Sambar/Rasam/Idli to go with it. I've come here for dinner before, and it was just as delicious, thought obviously you can't have a food baby for the same price you could at lunch hour. This review will be short simply because there's not much to say. The South Indian food at Chennai Dosa is great and definitely one of the best on Long Island. The prices can't be beat. I've spent more money on food from the neo-fast food places like Chipotle and Panera than I have at Chennai Dosa and maybe it's me, but enjoying a sit down dinner with a huge dosa definitely trumps your other options in that price range. Worst Indian restaurant ever. Went there for lunch around 1:00. The restaurant was full and crowded and had people roaming around like bumping cars. After 30 minutes wait into crowd we finally got table and went for buffet as nobody will come to our table to take order. Finally when we reached buffet only to found dirty plates. We complained and after 15 minutes they brought us some clean plates. By this time the buffet was completely empty and there was no refill. No one will refill it despite of our repeated request. Finally after wasting hour and a half, we had to leave without eating. The staff didn't give a crap about us leaving. Overall I will say that I am not kind of guy who will go online and write bad reviews but the experience was terrible enough to motivate me to do it for this place! Never ever go here! read more

Chennai Dosas is a hidden gem. With great vibrant colors and flavors that excite both the eyes and the palate. From the samosa chat to the chennai coffee the good food never ends and doesn't have to. So, I would not say, I am a fan but it was a good experience. We had spring masala dosa and bissibella, vada and spinach onion pakoda. Vada was one of the most fresh ones I had around In NY. Spinach onion pakoda was also good. And the quantity was a surprise as it was more than usual portion served at other restaurant. The entree were huge portions as well, good taste, and reasonably priced. Won't say the food taste was one of the best but was ok. The ambience is ok, quiet and service is also ok. Chennai Dosas has the best vegetarian food in Hicksville. The dishes both South Indian and North Indian are delicious. They are very customer friendly and prepare the dishes to the spice level of your choice. For us we prefer mild spices. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I came here after years because I used to come here as a child when the name used to be something different. The service here is not so great anymore. Servers don't even greet you and talk as if they're doing you a favor by taking your order. But besides that - Sambar is very good. I had the paneer rava dosa but it was quite bland.
