Food was delicious, they have a great buffet deal here and gets very busy. This place is also very clean. I ordered a paneer pondicherry masala dosa which has more aloo in it than paneer though I Expected more paneer, but it was tasty. The menu shows spicy and dairy foods. I am allergic to peanuts and they dont use peanuts here so that was a plus. The dosa came with coconut chutney, this tomato base chutney and sambar. Chutney was delicious. I also ordered a thali. The thali was a good deal came with chole, palak paneer which was creamy, soup, raita , banana pudding, achar, rice and one chapatti. Everything tasted fresh. Would def come again. read more

Was craving some real good onion rava masala dosa & saw this place had the best reviews so came here. It wasn't bad, but I was little disappointed. We waited a little too long for our food after we ordered it. The dry chili paneer was meh, 3/5, didn't taste as authentic as I thought. The dosa masala mixture inside was very hot, but the dosa felt a little cold. The part that disappointed me was they used yellow onions instead of red and would have loved to have a lot lot more onions intertwined in the rava dosa part. Pros: good portion, it was nicely crispy, the 2 chutneys and sambhar were tasty. Definitely seems like the place to go for the lunch buffet special versus dinner. read more

I initially came here because of the other reviews that were up and was worried because it didn't look busy when I came in, but the food was delicious and the store was packed by the time we were stuffed and ready to leave. Me and my wife ordered the Thali and the Baingan Bharta with a side order of Samosas Chat. Everything was divine, full of flavor, and very filling! We even ended up with a lot of leftovers, which is surprising because I eat a fair amount, and because we only ended up spending $40 (tax and tip included). They have a huge variety of dosas and other authentic South Indian dishes. Customer service is on point and food is made fresh on order. Weekends are pretty packed but it's worth waiting for a table. Highly recommend their assorted appetizers platter, Pondicherry Dosa (can add other stuff to it), Masala Dosa, Vada in Rasam (rice donuts in mild curry). We were looking for authentic South Indian dosa place in Hicksville, NY area. We had tried other places in the area and not satisfied. We decided to go for lunch at Chennai Dosas. The Chennai rava Masada dosa was out of the world. Idli was not as fresh but was soft enough, but vada was good. The sambar was authentic with no sugar added, chutney was good too. Masala chai was not so fresh. But overall 4 stars for the dosa and the smiling service we got. Facility is clean and simple ambience. Would recommend a visit for the dosas. read more

Best South Indian food in town. The service is a bit iffy but given there are several South Indian restaurants around they are they delicious. They are more accommodating than House of Dosas down the street which is also another popular place. But again the food is much better here. My favorite is the gunpowder dosa and the filter coffee. I came here for the first time for Father's day with my family. Apparently a lot of other people had the same idea. It was very crowded and now that I have experienced it for myself, I understand why. I am not a vegatarian but my dad is and for someone who has a number of dietary restrictions, they were patient and completely accomodating and was able to make him a dosa that he would really be able to enjoy. They made him a very nice and very large mushroom low sodium dosa! As for the buffet, everything I ate was delicious. From the rice dishes to the vegatables with sauces, everything was spiced to perfection, had the right amount of heat and was just as complex as I expect authentic indian food to be. There was also so much to choose from and you get a choice of a dosa all for such a reasonable price! What is also nice about this resturant is that they have more than one type of indian food as I am usually partial towards Southern Indian, which they had plenty of. My negative comments about this place is that the buffet area itself is a little small and feels cramped. It also gets a little messy because so many people are over there at a time. I was blown away on how great the food was. I'm also not gonna dare to try and name the food i tasted but i did go down the buffet line and grabbed a little of everything. The place isn't too big and the employees are nice. It wasn't expensive neither, i think i paid $11 during lunch hours... mind you, this is buffet style so you can go back for seconds. All vegetarian dishes which was good for me as i stopped eating meat last year. The plates/bowls and utensils can use some upgrading but no real complaint there. Today's menu included: Idli, sambar, rasam, aloo bonda, vegetable pulao, white rice, bitter gourd with potato curry, palak paneer, chana masala (chickpeas) with a medley of toppings, yogurt rice and mango pickle, salad, and kheer (payasam) for dessert. It's rare to find the perfect Chana masala and Kadhai paneer and that too at a place that seemed to be serving only South Indian dishes from the storefront name. To my surprise, they have many North Indian curries and are even willing to accommodate some changes to the entree upon request. As a child, my father used to eat cream of wheat and I would never try it. Glad those days are over as I dine at the vegetarian buffet at Chennai Dosas. It's hard to single out one or two dishes here as everything is so flavorful and filling. As one who doesn't have a high spice tolerance, this buffet is very well-suited. My mouth is alive with the aromatic stimulation without being uncomfortable. The dosas (we shared a potato-filled flat bread and a vegetable pancake) are awesome and we had them after already devouring a whole plate of tasty treats. I had no idea that this place existed until i was hungry with my son after dying at Ikea for 2 hours. Yelped it and found this spot. I thought "Ok, how good can this vegetarian spot really be??" This place is awesome. I'm from Pakistan so we didn't really have any dosa, or sambar, etc. growing up and i've only discovered it as an adult. I always thought it was ok, until I had it from here and boy have i been missing out. The eggplant dish, the tomato rice, the lentils, and a few other things i got, EVERYTHING i had hit another spot. I think there may have been one dish that was just a bit soupy and bland, but then again if i started with that, I might be singing a different tune. The dosa may have been the same height as my son if we stood them up side by side. Oh, get the spicy one, it's delicious! My son couldn't stop eating the Vadu Vadu (donut shaped goodness). And it's super reasonable. We happened to hit the lunch buffet, for me it was $9.99 and $6.99 for my 7 year old. Definitely a winner and i'll be returning soon. read more

Super awesome spot near the train station, this place combines all the best parts of vegetarian Indian cooking with a delicious dosa to compliment the flavors of the buffet. We were regular customers in this store and we ordered a Cheese Pondicherry Dosa for my daughter. The masala that they gave us was spoiled. We told the server and he took one slice of it to check with the kitchen staff. We understand every human makes mistake. At this point we were expecting an apology to end this issue. Instead, he came back and claimed that the masala was good. Neither the server nor the owner were ready to understand our concerns, they tried to defend themselves. We asked two people nearby to smell the dosa and they both agreed with us that it was spoiled. The attitude of the owner and chef was just as spoiled as the masala. I wont recommend eating here.
