EXCELLENT food. I had Nash surprise me with the Chattinad Chicken Curry. I didn't know what to pick and asked him to pick his favorite, not the usual crowd's go-to. I rarely have good Indian food, but today was great. Chicken was tender. Medium spice level was just right. Had me sweating. Great with rice. Explosion of flavors. Restaurant was beautifully decorated, clean, and music was a vibe. Highly recommend if you're staying f nearby at the Kimpton or Marriott.

Went back here after a bad experience many years ago. Was very impressed at both the quality of the food and the kind service. They are probably the closest Indian place to Fisherman's Wharf and the Pier-39 area, so there should be plenty of traffic from tourists and visitors. Tried the following dishes: - Chilly Paneer: was soft and well mixed with the spices. Really well done - Poori and Chana: good quantity , fluffy poori and tasty Chana masala - Parrys corner dosa: pleasant with small raw onions mixed in. Comes with chutneys and sambar. Personally didn't like the coconut chutney, rest of the chutneys and sambar were nice Will definitely return back again when I am in the embarcadero area

We were here for Saturday lunch, it was not too busy. Location is very good, ambiance is OK. We ordered Madras Masala Dosa, Chana poori, veg kothu parota, chettinad chicken curry, garlic naan, butter chicken. Dosa and poori was fresh. Potato stuffing in the dosa was fresh, but bland taste. The butter chicken was tender and pretty standard taste. Chettinad chicken was a big disappointment. Garlic naan were not made in tandoor, they were pre-made store bought, since all 4 were the same shape. Service was good, food came out fast and the waitress was polite.

The food here is delicious! Each dish was very authentic to South Indian flavors and the portions were excellent. The service was amazing, were very friendly and gave great recommendations. The fish fry was a standout dish. It came with 3 pieces which were buttery and very fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great South Indian food!

If you are visiting San Francisco- Fisherman wharf and get the cravings for Indian food... this is your place. The place is conveniently located on one of the main streets and serves great South Indian delicacies. The service is good just like the food. The filter coffee is one of the best I have tried so far. Give this restaurant a chance!

This place has the best authentic south indian food in San Francisco. I don't mind paying the toll just to eat here. Highly recommend.

Their cheese naan is 10/10, try it, and I always get the Chicken Karahi, and their rice is just perfect. It's a bit of a hole in the wall and it really is all about the food. You smell all the curries. Chicken curry is comfort food for me, so anyplace that's wafting with it is really speaking my language. You'd think that chicken curry would be easy to get right, but no. I've been disappointed many times. But not here. Biryani is another go-to for me, & again it's easy to assume that it's a hard dish to fail. That is not so, but they nail it every time. The biryani's here are moist & full of flavor. They're on the spicy side, even though we request mild, so be warned. Your nasal passages will be clear when you're done! Chicken tikka masala is not something I ever ordered before I met my husband, & he doesn't really order anything else. He is not half Indian like I am, so he gets a pass. Anyway, he raves about the CTM here. Roti & naan...all naan is not created equal. But the breads at Curry Leaf are a hit, not a miss. Incidentally, their papadam chutney (the green one) is the best in town. They should bottle it. You order at the counter. It's bare bones, with no frills. Just authentic Indian food. 4 stars

Each dish was visually stunning and carefully prepared. We tried many smaller dishes, tapas style. Some of the standouts were tandoori avocado with dosa crisp, baingan bharta cornetto, shiso chaat, passionfruit pani puri, pyaaz kachori, carrot halwa pave. Chef Pujan, longtime chef of Rooh, has outdone himself here. We truly felt it's the most exciting high-end Indian restaurant in Bay Area ( and we've tried them all).

The person who states "This is most likely the best restaurant in the world" has to be beyond sheltered; It's not even the best restaurant in the _neighborhood_. The main thing you must understand: the food is "inspired" by Indian food, but it does _not_ taste like Indian food. I suspect its been intentionally watered down to be palatable to milquetoast palettes. We ordered three small plates and the butter chicken as the main. Chicken Tikka Taco. This was greasy to the touch, with chicken and cheese. The dominate flavor is the cheddar cheese. They were trying to be creative but the ultimate effect was similar to a frozen burrito with cheddar cheese and chile verde. If you eat this, close your eyes and imagine a microwaved, frozen burrito..you'll see what I mean. Tandoori Avocado. This features an avocado that's been warmed and covered in a chili sauce. There's a green hummus and a fried dosa crisp. While it sounds wild, once the flavors are mixed together on the plate...the overall effect is that of a green-goddess salad. It's not bad, but its not mind bending. Octopus Xec Xec. The octopous was was cooked nicely and there was a tomato based sauce. Unlike something you'd find in India, it is _not_ heavy on the spices, or tang, or nuttiness. It's just very _neutral_. Butter Chicken. This was the biggest disappointment. I've never had a butter chicken curry that tasted so close to tomato soup in my life. I've eaten tons of butter chicken in my life, hundreds of Indian restaurants. I cannot imagine this was not an intentional choice...It was extremely disappointing. Also, the choice to use chicken breast was poor. Inevitably you get overcooked, chewy chicken pieces. They must have chosen this because (like Disneyland) sometimes you water things down to make it more popular with less adventurous people. The customers next to us (not Indian) kept slathering it on their rice and saying "I can't believe I didn't use to like Indian food!" -- that told me all I needed to know. BTW the naan is insanely bad. They stretched it very thin and then crisped it to the point that it breaks like a cracker. In what world is naan not pillowy and soft? Personally, I was really disappointed with this experience -- the other reviews on yelp are absolute insanity IMO. I know there's a hype train right now -- but someday people will realize this place is not it.
