We have eaten here twice and both times the food was very good to excellent. One of our guests (who eats here a lot) is particularly fond of the sushi. I did the soft shell crab appetizer and it was excellent. The crab Rangoon was also excellent. I tried the duck in plum sauce and it was very good, the meat was moist and the sauce very tasty. The service was very good although the place was packed after a concert at the Verizon Wireless Center. Parking sucks so worst case park across the street at one of the fast food restaurants and run across 2nd Avenue (good exercise!). Chens is the best and only Chinese food I will eat. Service is awesome! So clean and freshly. Their lomein is made with thin noodles and is the best ever. Their sushi is made right in front of you with the freshest ingredients and the display is beautiful. I drive 40 minutes when I want Chinese to go here. By far the best in NH. read more

Here is a real review of this account I have been living in Manchester for 20+ years and have been a great advocate of the up and coming restaurant scene. This building is a wonderful addition to the 2nd st strip. Chen's Garden offers an extensive variety of Asian dishes, everything from Pu-Pu platters to Toro tuna (the menu is huge and packed with something to please everyone) I have eaten here 2-3 times a month since the opening in Feb and no lie, the service is 100 times better now than 2 months ago and is still getting better. The staff has gotten faster and the food is getting better every time I walk in the door. On to the food! I have tried probably 7-10 different rolls and sashimi and I feel the quality of the fish and presentation is by far the best in NH. Try the snow mountian! The kung pow dishes have some incredible heat and are one of the best I have had. The regular Chinese food is all ways fresh and crispy. Booze! Now the drink list something else. I'm not a big fan of scorpion bowls and mi ties and things like that, but however martinis, wine and sake are something I can talk about. The wine list can meet any wine drinkers need, it offers premium wine by the glass all varieties to pair with any dish and the house wine is very good quality for being a house wine. Now the sake list is amazing, it has got to be the largest sake selection in the state. Its offers everything from cheap warm stuff, super premium, unfiltered sake and plum wines. Lets talk about the atmosphere! Lets just say someone paid attention to the little things, the attention to detail in this place is amazing. I really feel that is what sets this place apart from the rest, the restaurant is brand new, always clean and comfortable. The lighting is perfect the bar is comfortable and even when the place is packed there is always enough room for everyone to stretch out. This place would be an excellent place for a date. Over all I feel the prices are good, food is the best you can find in NH, atmosphere is great and the sake selection is amazing. Hands down my favorite restaurant in the area. Very good food, have tried many different dishes, and yet to find anything bad, Not a great fan of sushi in general, but I have enjoyed their sushi. We usually sit at the bar and it's cool to see the sushi being prepared. My only complaint is the parking is a little tight. read more

I have been to this place a couple of times now. However this time the waiter was very rude and wanted us to order more than we were. He kept saying " is this it, is this it, you don't want more, is this it". After he did this he snatched back the menu from my father's hand and I asked him if he has a problem with our order. His service got worse after this and he would not bring food for 30 minutes considering it was late afternoon and there was just one more busy table. The entire restaurant was empty ! He kept talking to the guests on the only other occupied table and after we finished he wouldn't take back the plates and another person came to take back the empty plates. I've eaten sushi a handful of times here and it was all tasty. Yesterday I called to get some sushi, and first confirmed that the snow mountain roll came with two tempura shrimp inside and king crab meat outside was real crab and not that imitation crap. The girl who answered said yes it's real crab, if it were imitation. So I call back a few minutes later to order, and sure as shit there's imitation crab. I don't mind paying more for my food, but I want what I pay for, not some cheap imitation. I won't be in a hurry to get back. read more

Unacceptable level of service. My wife preordered our New Year's Eve dinner for a 6 o'clock pickup. Didn't get it till 8. She placed the order days in advance to avoid something like this. Really great quality food. I would say it is the best in area- definitely better tasting and fresher than Jade Dragon in Merrimack. I have been here 3 times now and each time it was delicious. The spring rolls, scallion pancakes and lo mein are delicious! Also, the chow mein is particularly tasty because it isnt the usual mushy, overprocessed salty chow mein you usually encounter in other chinese restaurants. Instead, it tasted fresh and had identifiable pieces of carrot and had a crispier texture. Definitely the best chow mein I have ever had! I noticed some complaints about the service.. we have always had pretty prompt and efficient service but I would add that we normally have gone on week nights and not busy weekends, so maybe there is a difference in service then. I read online that Chens Garden had the best Chinese food in NH. Far from it! Our appetizers and entree were not cooked fresh. It was painfully obvious everything was just heated up. The chicken on a stick was so old, you could not even cut it. The beef on a stick had a bad smell. The string bean and broccoli with brown sauce had old shriveled string beans, and broccoli that was not cooked. The white house rice was old and just reheated. We will never come back!! read more

We went to Chen's on a Saturday night around 5:30 as we had plans to go to a movie and wanted to beat the dinner time rush. There were three of us so we figured that we would be served relatively fast as when we arrived approximately 25 percent of the tables were occupied and they had plenty of wait staff floating around. We were promptly seated and then ignored for 20 minutes. When I say 20 minutes I mean for 20 minutes the staff talked to each other and basically "hung around". We did not even get a glass of water. When the waiter got around to approaching our table there was no apologies, he took our complete order which included an appetizer. As we waited for our order the place started to fill up. Our waiter continued his conversation during the 20 minutes it took to prepare our meal and we were again surprised that when the waiter returned he had our appetizer and one of our entrees and told us the other would "be one minute"...he then disappeared for 10 minutes. We finished the appetizer (which was a boneless spare rib) and pretty good as well as the sesame chicken which was slimy and too sweet. I final had to literally grab our waiter who told us our order was up next. I told him I would pass and we paid our bill and left. Overall impression: The place was clean The food was average at best The wait staff was terrible Food was a little over priced The portions were average I understand that with a new restaurant you can have "gliches" but this place has been open for a while and based on the way they treated us i will never go back there. So much better than I anticipated. The crab rangoon was perfect, not sweet and the perfect amount of creaminess. The atmosphere was amazing, wait staff perfectly attentive. I have noticed a significant decline in food quality and customer service, as well as a steady incline in prices. Most recently my family and I gave Chen's Garden one more try spending over $150.00 on take out items only to be once again disappointed. Neither PuPu Platter, we orderd two, contained any Fried Jumbo Shrimp, the Boneless Spare Ribs were soaked in oil, with about a quarter of an inch remaining on the bottom of the carton after removal, and the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce was entirely without one single shrimp. Their November 2018 Menu had been rewritten just weeks later in December without notice, and contained numerous significant price increases, as well as omissions of favorite items. For instance, although a PuPu Platter for four was now almost $46.00, up from $35.00, Fried Jumbo Shrimp were now omitted, and other increases and omissions all throughout the menu. Upon speaking to the Manager, it became clear to me he had no interest in putting the customer first, at least not now that they were enjoying a significant customer base and essentially surviving on past accomplishments. I suggest you read all the fine print, and it is certainly fine, and be prepared to be disappointed, we have had our last meal from Chen's. read more

I tried their sushi for the first time. It was absolutely disgusting, I could not even swallow it. The so called "crab meat" was imitation crab. Too pricey for getting basically a blob of imitation crab mixed with warm cream cheese wrapped in seaweed and white rice. You do not get what you pay for. I can go to market basket and get better , fresher, REAL sushi for $7.99. I asked for my money back since what I got was not what I ordered and it was impossible to reason with the employee. I asked for the manager and she told me she was the manager. I wish I just sat at the restaurant instead of ordering takeout because I would have walked out and had 30 more bucks in my pocket...... it was that bad. This so called "manager" was useless. Last night we took some family members visiting from out-of-state to Chen's Garden because we had heard good things about it. I must say the experience was absolutely terrible!! It took our waitress at least 15 minutes to bring us water after welcoming us and giving us menus and then informed us she'd come later to take our orders. We stopped her right away and let her know we were ready. (We had two children with us). We ordered some appetizers of egg rolls, sushi rolls and Peking dumplings and our entrees. We sat and waited. The dumplings were first but took about 30 minutes. The egg roll came out with an entree after 45 minutes and the sushi roll appetizers came out after an hour with other entrees! The table did not have enough sets of utensils so we had to ask (and wait) for them. We had to ask for chop sticks because none were given when the sushi was served nor were there any dipping bowls for the wasabi and soy. We had to go get the chopsticks from the take out counter because after 5-10 minutes the waitress still had not brought any. It went on and on like this all night. Just about everything had to be requested and then waited for. When I finally had enough, I asked to speak to the manager and calmly let him know just how bad our experience was going. His response couldn't have been much worse for a restaurant. He pointed around the room and said "as you can see, we are very busy tonight." WHAT??? That is the worst thing a restaurant manager can say as an explanation for poor service! He asked what table we were at and typed something in the computer. I thought he might be taking something off the bill but when it arrived, nothing had been done. I wasn't looking for anything other than to let them know of our experience but I certainly didn't expect an excuse like that. When we finished and were walking out, the person at the take out counter, who had heard everything, said "sorry about tonight". With the way their management treated us, I would not go back to Chen's Garden even if it were dead!! read more

First time I ate food from Chen's was when my company had some brought in for a bunch of us. Wasn't impressed - very bland. The Wanton soup was a big nothing - one wanton and the rest "yellow water". Nobody liked it. So that was a month ago. Today I give them another try, this time getting a luncheon special. For almost eleven bucks there wasn't anything special about it. The pork fried rice was the worst I've ever not tasted (bland). Want to see the difference? Try ANY Chinese restaurant in Nashua. As for the place itself, there isn't enough parking either on the lot or the side street next to it. The spaces are very tight, probably the smallest allowed by law. The inside was small but I was just there to get a take out so it didn't matter. Lots of windows so its bright during the day. My order came out in the time they said it would. The one good thing about this new restuarant is the atmosphere. There is someone to greet you as you walk in the door, although not much room if there are people entering ahead of you, there are easliy traffic jams, as we experienced as we entered. We were seated promptly as there were only about 5 parties in the whole place. Ordering was very difficult. The waitress did not understand the names of items on the menu and we had to point to the individual things we were ordering to make ourselves understood. And she still got it wrong. 2 of the 3 sushi items my husband ordered were wrong. (Tako servied instead of Tobiko and Snow Mountain roll served instead of the Soft Shell Crab appetizer). We let the waitress know when she brought us our food, and she argued with him! She went to go get the menu (first the picture menue and then the actual menu) and point to what she had thought he was ordering. And my husband had pointed to each item as he was ordering it, and she had repeated it back to him correctly. She got one item replaced but not taken off the bill. ( She gave us the money for it out of her tip pile) but refused to correct the other item. (I don't think she wanted to tell the manager she had messed up) My food was correct, but not very good. The pork fried rice was very heavily salted. The boneless spareribs were very burned. The wanton soup tasted very peanutty, which was interesting, and all you could taste of the chicken teriaki was coconut. Our bill was about $10 higher than when we go to Jay House or Taipei Tokyo. And that's after the money the waitress gave us. I don't think we will be going back, and given how we were treated by the waitress when she messed up my husband's order, we may be writing them a letter so that they know why. read more

First thing I noticed is the temperature. It had to be 100 degrees in there. I asked if they could turn it down and said no because the general contractor messed it up. Not really understanding what he meant by that but...He then walked away before taking our order (table of 8), spoke with another waiter for awhile then came back to us. He took our order, accurately, but noticed he was sweating into our food when he served us. my friend and i opted to try out the Chens garden on second street what a mistake!!! even tho the lunch specials seemed to be reasonably priced the over all bill was ridiculously OVERPRICED. We sat at the bar and decided we would enjoy soda instead of a cocktail with our meal Thu the course of our meal we were offered refills of our beverages 3 times a piece, often times our drinks were only half full, they attempted to charge us for 6 beverages when the bill came the soda was as much as our food order now Doubling our lunch tab to 30 bucks...when we called out the bartender on him overcharging us on the refills he offered us,he told us that this would be the last time we get a break on the drinks, We agreed and will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN read more

Don't waste your money on take out tempura: I ordered the Vegetable Tempura and Miso Soup takeout (soup came with tempura) for a lunch for $10.60 (w/tax). The container had only 4 small vegetables and a large onion ring. The miso soup was full of onions that I couldn't even eat it - you might as well had ordered onion soup.
