This was my second time visiting Chepas. I was very impressed with the food. The chicken in the enchiladas was good, the guacamole was great and service was top notch. The restaurant was fairly busy this time but not a very long wait for the food. I highly recommend. read more

There's a good number of TexMex spots in Allen and I'm trying to eat at all of them. I asked my husband to choose between three places this past Friday and he chose Chepa's for the grilled fish taco lunch special, which came with cilantro lime rice, avocado, and a chipotle crema sauce. I got the CINCO: chicken tortilla soup, crispy ground beef taco, and spanish rice. Along with both our dishes, we got chips and salsa. It was COVID-19 shelter-in-place times, so I made a phone order and picked it up in 10 minutes. Someone was already outside ready with my order which was very cool. We both enjoyed our meals. As for mine, I think the combination of soup, taco, and rice was perfect and for only $7ish, it was an awesome and delicious lunch special. My husband enjoyed his fish taco plate as well. They have a good number of other lunch specials going on too, which I would love to try. Chepa's is located in a small strip mall near the corner of McDermott and Alma. Looking at these great review I must have ordered the wrong thing. As I'm eating I'm thinking to myself this is the place you bring your friends from Minnesota who can't handle any amount of spice. Upon leaving the person I was with said "Mexican food for white people". Lot of bland food. I got the carne asada. Over cooked. My fault as I should have specified to cook it medium rare. But more than being overcooked it wasn't seasoned with anything. It didn't taste bad, it simply didn't taste. I was hungry so I smothered it in guacamole and wrapped in tortilla and ate it. It came with a cheese enchilada with ranchera sauce and it wasn't bad. Rice was bland. Tried another type of rice and also bland. I tried the brisket tacos. Not bad. They needed some sauce or something to add some kick. Definitely better than carne asada. Chips were good. I described the salsa as "not horrible" while the person I was with described it as "edible". House margarita was decent. Check it out for yourself, but try something smothered in cheese or sauce so hopefully you get some flavor. Maybe some day I'll give it another try, but probably not. read more

Chepa's is a small cozy spot located in West Allen, restaurant is clean, service is good however I wasn't a fan of the food. Everything we ordered (pictured) was okay, but not something I would look forward to eating again. I don't have any drinks but I've heard they are good. a group of us used to go regularly because the food was consistently good. The brisket tacos, street tacos and fajita enchiladas were faves of ours. what happened? suddenly the food went south as did the service. We decided to try this place out over the weekend because who can resist Mexican food! I am so glad we decided to stop here because it was so good. The place itself is really cute. They have bar seating available, but we didn't sit there because we didn't see it as we walked in. Plenty of tables as well as seats at the bar. Anyway, we sat at a pretty comfortable booth. The chips and salsa were provided right away. The salsa was pretty good. The chips... I wasn't a fan. They do have mimosas which is a plus for brunch. As for the meal, I ordered the chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce. Oh man, those were so good. Some of the best chicken enchiladas I have had. I usually order chicken enchiladas when first trying out a Mexican restaurant as a test, and they passed with flying colors. The beans and rice were also super delicious. Food - 4 Service - 4 Value - 4 We tried this place out during their grand opening and ordered the Tacos Al Carbon (Chicken) and the Carnitas Tiquecheo. The tacos were a decent-sized portion, and the chicken was tender but I felt it lacked enough seasoning. The carnitas were actually quite tender and the sauce it was in was pretty good, but also bordered on overpowering the pork itself. At the end of the day, this is a good local place to go for some decent Mexican food and would be a place we'd come back to -- but probably not a place that we'd work in as part of our regular rotation of places nearby to go eat at. read more

Given the lockdown due to COVID19, we had to pick some place to get takeout. We picked Chepa's given it's proximity and reviews. Placed the order in the phone, arrived curbside and they had the food waiting. They store manager walked the bag up to our car (and he had gloves and mask). Complete no-contact pickup. The food was exceptional! We got an order of beef fajitas, which were well packaged with all the fixings. The meat was tender and well seasoned. Also got a chicken and spinach enchilada which was also excellent, with the sauce on the side so it doesn't get soggy and fall apart. They even threw in a bag of chips and salsa. Overall great attention to detail, even under the current circumstances. Highly recommend Chepas! read more

I had bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with Poblano pepper and cheese and it was on a bed of sauté onions and a red sauce that was so delicious. Me and the wife came here for dinner. The place is small inside. The service was fast and the waitress was attentive. Our food came out super fast. We ordered 2 apps and 2 dinners. Shrimp cocktail had okay flavor. The base of the sauce was a little different than I'm used to. However my wife did enjoy the shrimp cocktail. The flautas were very tasty and crisp. The steak nachos had plenty of meat piled on. The queso was just okay. I ordered case asada , it was cooked as requested medium. It wasn't seasoned which was fine with me as long as it prepared correctly. My wife had shrimp brioche. Plenty of shimp and the sauce was great. Rice and beans were good. Guacamole was good. I'm just going to add to their raving reviews. We went here tonight for my husband's birthday. It was a cheat meal for me and it was worth every single bite. I ordered the beer battered fish tacos and they were delicious. My husband ordered the street tacos and said the meat was cooked well and they were good. The sopapillas ended our meal on a high note- they were the best I've had! About $20 a plate. We bought some churros home for the kids and they seemed to really enjoy them. The service and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. We will be back!! read more

Tried it one more time after months of not going. Same ol same ol. Might called this place fast food Mexican cause it taste like it. Especially, take outs. They don't make it from scratch. Took my mother, wife and son here for Mother's day. My wife and I have been here before and since my mother wanted Mexican food and she had not been here before we headed right over. As usual, the service was prompt, polite and spot on. Drinks stayed filled and if we needed anything it was attended to promptly. The food was delicious. My mom had the Tacos Al Carbon, my son had the Brisket Enchiladas, my wife had the Chimichanga and I had the Pollo la Crema, which comes with their Tortilla Soup. Everyone was happy. And we also had the chorizo queso and the appetizer platter (yes we wound up with to go boxes). And we had the sopapillas (Yes, there will be extra exercise this week, but it was all so good). Interesting note. My wife and son had never had ranchera sauce before. And my son, bless his heart, is picky. He ate it and liked it. So did the wife. My mom, who loves ranchera sauce said it was spot on. I was surprised at the size of the chimichanga though. It was huge and sneaking a bite of the wife's made me want to try it when we go again, but first there are a few items on their menu that we want to try. Without my loving mother and son. This is one of those cozy places that you can come, eat and just relax. Not the loud and noisy environment like the sports bars. The queso has to go. Not sure what kind of cheese they use, but it is bland and a strange consistency. They need to add a queso blanco. Enchiladas Verdes are usually good, but tonight the meat was very dry and not a lot of meat in them to begin with. Tortilla was not good. The website said it closed at 10 the door said it closed at 10, we walked in at 9:15 and they looked at us like we were bums though we had just come in from the rain. They said they were not serving any more , but there were people still in the restaurant. If you were not open until 10 please change your signage and be kinder to customers. read more

This place has it right! The pork carnitas are to die for! I've tried the enchiladas, the flautas, everything has been delicious. The service is great and the place is ultra clean. I grew up in Mexico and the flavors are very authentic. Please don't let Waze deter you from getting here, it makes you go in circles around the parking lot. So... I'm really confused by the ratings of this place. I hate leaving such a low review, but my man and I had to write this before even leaving the restaurant (yes, it was that serious a matter). We love Mexican/Tex-Mex and were really excited to try this place. The most positive things that I can say about our experience were that we were seated pretty quickly and brought chips & salsa. Those were pretty standard, nothing special. Our food was brought out pretty quickly and our server checked on us several times throughout our time there, quickly bringing us refills on our drinks. The restaurant was clean and well kept. The stars are primarily a reflection of our food.. the queso tasted like knock off Velveeta: flavorless and uninspired. Bae was relatively pleased with his chicken burrito because it tasted "clean" (his attempt to put a positive spin on "bland") and a large portion. The most horrifying part of our dining experience was my brisket enchilada meal. The tortilla was doughy and mushy and the brisket flavorless. The ranchero sauce, I kid you not, tasted just like Chef Boyardee's Ravioli's. (I respect myself, so I haven't eaten those in probably 19 years, but the first bite of my dinner tonight was enough to retraumatize me).
