This restaurant was recently opened by experienced persons in the dining business. They greet you when you walk in and check on you soon after the food is served to make sure all is well-something my spouse and I find lacking these days in restaurants. We shared a sausage burrito, eggs, a pancake and excellent crisp bacon. I came back a second time with my neighbor and both of us were pleased with the food and friendly service. I was excited to try a new breakfast spot and boy did it deliver on flavor. We got a scramble with bacon, a small breakfast with bacon and a waffle to share. Along with two delicious decaf drip coffees. The portions to price is great. Generous and delicious. What more could you ask for? The service was amazing. Felt right at home. Genuinely happy people ready to greet you and take your order. They check up on you often and the food comes out piping hot and quick. The ambiance could use some more work. It's early days, they have been open for 3 months and they have potential to be my favorite breakfast spot. The menu is simple and I'm excited to try their lunch options. We found this place through the recommendations from you dear Yelpers and you are spot on!!! Parking can be challenging but well worth your effort. I read how some viewed the food quality as sub standard or described as paper plate quality. Our meal was perfect and generous. And service is friendly and helpful. The breakfast menu is diverse with many different flavors and dishes for everyone. Ordered the stuffed French Toast with Mascarpone which was delicious. I think the pancake syrup was augmented in way to bring out the flavor and the texture was amazing. The syrup coated the piece of French toast like a warm blanket. It's like the Maillard reaction meets maple syrup. So yummy!!! The family also tried the combos which were very generous. Great dining room with lots of tables and chairs. Self ordered breakfast on a paper plate with zero atmosphere or charm. The quality was reasonable but very inline with what you make at home. I had breakfast here a few weeks back. I ordered the small breakfast with cheesy scrambled eggs, with a side of bacon, house potatoes, and toast for $13 plus tax. They offer a decent size portion. The scrambled eggs were indeed cheesy and tasted pretty good. The problem was that the potatoes were also cheesy, which I was unaware of when I ordered. Both the eggs and potatoes came with a lot of cheese. It was just too much cheese having It on both I nibbled on the potatoes, the best I could, without the cheese. I left the majority. The bacon was good, but it was overdone so it didn't offer a good chew, just a crisp snap or crunch. The wheat toast I ordered was lightly toasted and heavily buttered. I would recommend the butter be served on the side, so one can control how much they want on the toast, or none at all. The hospitality was very cordial and welcoming. The eatery offers breakfast and lunch and specializes in pancakes and waffles, but I d here they also make mean burgers. There's inside and outside seating available. read more

Cherries & Batter Breakfast Cafe is a newly opened eatery in the Robinson Plaza of the Hillcrest neighborhood. It took over a corner suite where a French bistro closed over a year ago. There were some dedicated diagonal parking spots for the plaza businesses, but this has to be one of the narrowest lots I have encountered in all of SD. Someone did a poor job of optimizing the spaces which should be redone. There was some outdoor sidewalk seating on the west facing side of the suite to supplement the inside dining area that could seat a few dozen customers. The service counter was to the right as you walked in. After placing an order, a numbered placard was given to take to a table so a worker could find your party later to deliver the food/drink. A little over half of the menu was breakfast offerings and then the rest was lunch fare like burgers, sandwiches, quesadillas, and salads. The layout of the menu sheet was different than that of the screens behind the counter which prominently displayed pancakes, french toast, and waffles. Those items seemed to represent the essence of their business name. I chose one of the four Breakfast Plates that was made up of pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. A cup of regular syrup was provided on the side for the pancakes. You could get real maple syrup and/or other toppings for a surcharge. The scrambled eggs were standard while the three bacon slices were extra crispy. The two pancakes were fluffy and dusted with powdered sugar. The syrup I applied was sufficient as I didn't need a fruit compote as a topping. One of the workers (owner?) checked up on me multiple times to see if I needed anything. I gave a four star rating for the price and quality of my order at Cherries & Batter Breakfast Cafe. read more

Super disappointed. The setting is very simple, which would have been totally fine if the food was good. It was not. The eggs were a very pale white-ish yellow and had very little taste. Nothing was special or tasted better than the basic stuff you make for yourself at home (with better ingredients). read more

This place is like fast food breakfast. You order at the counter, big open kitchen to see them prepping meals, everything comes out in 5 minutes. I got the walnut banana pancakes with syrup. The syrup was not maple syrup, it was very synthetic and buttery. The walnuts were raw and whole inside the pancakes, which was very strange. The pancakes itself had ok flavor. The amount of syrup they gave was about 1 tablespoon, so not enough for all the pancakes. My husband got chicken and waffles and was alarmed at home quickly the food came out and if they reheated the chicken. In addition, we were charged an extra fee for using a card, notice of which was not posted anywhere. When we brought it to their attention they barely acknowledged it and did not refund us. The tables were all damaged which was strange since the place opened not that long ago. I was very disappointed with the place because I was hoping for a new, good breakfast place in Hillcrest. Good amount of food for the price. The printed menu is different from the online menu but items online are still available. So the consistency could use an update. We also experienced several fruit flies just all over our seating area and we were inside. Fruit seems to be from a can, which is fine but fresh fruit is always better. At first I thought this was a hostess/server type of breakfast place, but instead, u order at the counter. This is great because why would I need a server to serve simple breakfast? I consider this an elevated Denny's. I noticed here someone said they got charged service fee for credit card. I would rather pay that than pay a server to refill your water. I got the French toast which was delicious. I like my toast gooey and moist and this did not disappoint, also slightly seasoned with cinnamon I think which just elevates the flavor. They also sell breakfast burritos about 20% cheaper than other burrito joints and since this looks Mexican owned, that will be my next order when I return. read more

been waiting for the place to open up and I am so glad to have finally tried it! the person that greeted us was incredibly nice and the food was even better. my partner and I got the French toast with bacon and eggs and the huge breakfast #2 and they were something special. you can tell the food is high quality and it was hands down some of the best pancakes and French toast we have ever tasted. love what they have done with the place too, it feels much more open and inviting than the old restaurant that was there. we will definitely be back to try more of the menu (especially those cherry pancakes) read more

This place is easily becoming my go-to breakfast spot when I want something comforting. The food reminds me of my parents making breakfast on the weekend. It's not fancy food, but it's delicious and hits the spot. Pancakes, eggs, potatoes & bacon, what more do you need? The maple butter syrup is such a treat that you might just want to drink it. I wish there was an option to ask for extra syrup online (I'm okay with paying for more). The portions are massive so I think it's a pretty good deal for the price. I just had lunch at Cherries & Batter, the BLTA, & it was delicious! The bacon was thick & cooked to crispy perfection. There was a generous amount of perfectly ripe avacado & tomato. I know this sounds crazy, but even the iced tea was delicious! It wasn't watered down, it had full tea flavour. I think it's a family owned and run business, best of luck to them.
