OK lunch buffet but better around town. Best on the buffet is the crab salad. The rest is just ok. Been here several times over the years for business lunches. Waiters often act like you're more of a bother & they will tolerate you since you are there. I have driven past this restaurant for 19 years as I took my dad to doctor visits and hospital stays. Monday night, before his scheduled surgery, we decided to try it after reading reviews on YELP. It was great! The service was superb, the food delicious and we were quite pleased with the menu and its prices. I had the shrimp de jonghe that was excellent and my dad had the top sirloin that was cooked perfectly. When my dad was kept in the hospital a day extra than expected, I went back to Chesapeake Seafood House by myself tonight. Again, everything was very nice. I was very comfortable as a single dining patron and there were several single diners in the dining room too. Tonight I tried the baked stuffed shrimp and again it was delicious. I really enjoyed my service and the waitress (Melissa) was very attentive. I highly recommend this place to everyone. I was under the mistaken notion that this place was a buffet and may do buffets for holidays, but it is an excellent dinner house and I look forward to making this a common stop whenever I come to Springfield. read more

Ate lunch here today with my 7 year old autistic son. He talked through the entire meal saying HI and BYE to all the customers. Everybody was kind and stopped to talk to him. However, our waitress was extremely rude to him. She kept telling him to hush! She even made a remark to another table and that lady approached me and told me about it and suggested I report her. I was nearly in tears. He was not misbehaving at all. He was just talking....to everybody! I have called and spoke with the manager who said I should be getting a call from the owner tomorrow. It's not enough that the food at a restaurant is good. Their employees should be too. They need to be tolerant and patient with special needs kids. His only crime today was talking. Everybody is only one accident or illness away from being like my little boy. Ask yourself how you would like to be treated. I certainly hope the owner returns my call and addresses this issue with his waitress. read more

While in town being a tourist we couldn't decide where to eat and by chance saw an ad for Chesapeake Seafood House on the back of a brochure from one of the museums. Looked it up and found it had Early Bird dinners and it was early and so decided to try it. As we drove up the restaurant reminded me of a fish restaurant in the state of Maine, not Illinois. We ordered the seafood platter and it was fantastic. A lot of fish plus salad, baked potato and bread. The price was unbelievable, very reasonable. We were glad we got there for the early bird as when we left there were quite a few people waiting to be seated for dinner (and this was on a Tuesday night). We waited about 20 minutes for a table at 4:30 pm even though there was only one party of 3 in front of us. They took our name and then had us sit down and wait even though the place was empty. The waiter was very polite however he kept mixing up our two orders. We got in on the early bird menu and the choices were plentiful and so was the entree size. Food tasted good but nothing spectacular, except for the bread and honey butter. Service, as I said was courteous but SO slow. I would hate to try this place when it's crowded. Offers a swath of a American fare that, as the name would indicate, leans heavily on the seafood variety. In general the food is a cut-above your general chain seafood restaurants. The ambiance of the reasturant is nice- there is a lots of room and a variety of seating locations. read more

I used to love this place but after going there today for a Mother's Day dinner, I will probably never return. The waitress said that because it was a holiday, we couldn't order off the menu. They only had the buffet which was terrible. Very few food choices and no fish - at a seafood house. I came here because I wanted a seafood dinner, not some instant mashed potatoes that had been sitting in a warming table for who knows how long. Too top things off, the waitress brought the bill before we even started eating. I'm done with this place! read more

When I think top quality seafood, I don't think of frozen & boxed shrimp & crab cakes which is exactly what I ordered as my entree. The clam chowder was ok. If you love Red Lobster then u will love this spot. The decor and ambiance says class and high quality but the food says otherwise. read more

We visited Chesapeake on 7/26/2015 for our 29th anniversary. After about a 45 minute wait our food was brought to the table cold. The lobster was so cold we had to use a steak knife to cut it. Our waitress Missy or Misty (couldn't understand her) was horrible. She couldn't suggest a wine to go with my dinner, she was more interested in the larger groups that was in her area. There may have only been 2 of us but we are still paying customers who deserve the same respect and service as the larger groups!!!!!! The atmosphere was nice but that was about it!!!!!!!! read more

Food was delicious, fresh, and hot. And prices were very reasonable for the quality of seafood. Plus you get a salad and a whole loaf of fresh bread with each meal! Only complaint was the service, it was very low quality. Me and my friend decided to try this place after a movie so we were in sweatshirts and comfy clothes and I think our server assumed from our look that we weren't high quality tippers or something and he blatantly ignored us over his other tables and really acted like he didn't want us as his table whatsoever. What he doesn't realize is that I am a server and I always tip exceptionally well if I even get ok service, but the rudeness of his service was so bad that I only left him 20% even though that would still be considered a decent tip I will tip over the top for good service. but you should treat all your customers equally and with respect you never know who has server experience and appreciates the return of good service. I will try this place again because the food was really good and reasonably priced but if I get him as a server again I will respectively request another one. I hope the restaurant does a better job of hiring servers there and checks people's attitudes; because I was really appalled by his demeanor. However I would still give the place a try if you like seafood read more

First impression: I made a reservation for 6:30 didn't even get seated until 6:50. There were 6 in our party and it took a while to get our 5 waters and 1 coke. The bread was excellent, unfortunately that was the best part of our meals. My salad had hard iceberg lettuce my father's had soggy iceberg lettuce. The clam chowder had great flavor but almost the consistency of pudding. Kind of odd but good. I ordered the steak and shrimp. Steak was on the rare side, I ordered medium well. Not much flavor. Shrimp were so overdone and rubbery I couldn't eat them. Potatoes au gratin were pretty good after I added salt and pepper. My husband's steak was medium, he ordered it rare. Another person in my party did not like her dish, didn't eat but a bite and still got charged for it! If our waitress would've checked on us at least once during our dinner maybe she would've been offered something different? Overall the aesthetics of the 1850's mansion were far greater than the service and food. Will definitely not be returning, nor any of the others in my party. read more
