Our go-to restaurant for driving back east from Tanglewood. Far enough out to be free of the traffic but not so far you get hangry. Have been here several times over the years and I'm so pleased to see they survived the pandemic. Great comfort food and a commitment to seasonal local veggies. Our waiter was very pleasant and casual but attentive. People are very friendly here. Love the town as well, it's very quaint. Worth a little walk around to appreciate the railroad and some of the older buildings. Hope to see this town thrive in the future. read more

We went there craving burgers a few weeks ago and they were outstanding , local grass-fed, perfectly grilled, and so good we wanted to return soon. I'm very allergic to gluten, and when I first looked at my burger I was disappointed that it wasn't on a roll; my disappointment faded as soon as I tasted the bread, which was homemade. It turned out to be some of the best gluten-free bread I've ever had - and I make my own. ( I was also thrilled to find that they have the same bread at Carm's, so now I have to get there.) Tonight I tried the special - Korean Cornish Hen, which was delicious. It came with some of the best sweet potatoes I've ever had and THE best carrot salad. Horrible over priced cafeteria style food at best and the male owner is so unprofessional, rude, and should learn how to treat paying customers. Put the band outside in 95 degree humid weather in the sun. Put us in an unkept back yard. Made elderly ladies move after they sat and ordered in the sun because he claimed tables were reserved for other people. No reservations on tables. No hostess to seat us. If it's open. We are paying and then you kick us to a dirty table in the sun? Won't ever go back. They were lucky to have had my family support them through the winter months when restaurant was completely empty. Don't bring your kids here. We called specifically to ask if this was a kid-friendly place. We were told "Yes! Bring the kids!" Fifteen minutes into our visit we were asked to bring the kids into another room by themselves. We were told it wasn't a good mix having the kids and a live musician. Well, maybe they should have said so when I called...to ask if we should bring kids...and they said bring them. Of course we had already ordered our food. We paid for it and took it home. It was horrible. We paid $15 for shepherds pie that looked like it had been pooped out. Obviously made with broken up cheeseburger. What a hidden gem with a small town feel! The food was incredible, the scotch/whiskey menu was off the charts and the service was awesome! The menu was small but I struggled decide between 3 or 4 entree options and couple intriguing apps. My wife chose the apple gorgonzola salad with grilled chicken while I had the salmon and asparagus... we had the spinach and artichoke dip with chips! The food was top notch at a reasonable price! I've had salmon at Legal Seafoods and this was even better and somehow our food was less than $50! Our bill was a lot higher but that's because of the glorious scotch I had! When I ordered the first scotch, Lagavulin, Limited Edition, 2018, the bar manager stopped by the table to tell Me how incredible My choice was and also to make sure I knew what I was asking for. I did but really appreciated the heads up before seeing the cost on the bill. After My second choice, Laphroaig Select, He again stopped by to give me props on My selection and brought over a shot glass sized sample of Royal Brackla and told Me he thought I would 'surely enjoy if You like those...'. An above and beyond gesture! And then there was dessert! My wife had a rhubarb pie and I had the flowerless chocolate cake and they were ridiculous! I can not over state how blown away we both were at the service from our waitress and the owner who I believe were literally the owners! An expected turn off of Rte 20 found us at a restaurant we didn't know existed thanks to our lack of internet service. Fantastic beer selection; Bldg 8, Ommegang, Jacks Abby, Lefty's, etc. Great local beef and bacon options. Small bites all the way up to full dinners ranging from $5 to $15. Don't hesitate to stop in and grab a 1/3 pound local burger with the oven roasted potatoes for $11 or the local blt on fresh baked bread for $9! Returning to Central MA, we got off the turnpike to take a ride on RT 20, through the small towns of the Berkshires. Great ride, first of all, but we did stop here in Chester for a meal, mid afternoon on a Saturday. The ChesterCommon Table was a great find. The place is laid back but comfortable. The folks waiting on us were very helpful about the beer and menu. The menu was full of choices of local farms which made choices more interesting. Everything from the soup, to the burgers and had, to the desert we also selected, were very good. We hope to return someday, and recommend that you give it a try. read more

Wow, good food! I heard about the restaurant from a friend and we took the 28 mile adventurous drive from Pittsfield to check it out on a Sunday evening.. not much farther than going to Jacob's Pillow so good to remember for the future. Restaurant was about 50-75% full as we got there about 1.5 hours before closing time; tables are spaced nicely so we could talk without over-hearing other customers. Really nice outdoor and indoor seating. Nicely decorated with local art. Clean. Drinks came out right away and food came out at a nice pace that allowed us to talk, but not feel like we were waiting. But the best part was my veggie lentil burger. It is usually hard for restaurants to get veggie burgers right. This was awesome, and the best part was the local free range egg that was added (I did the chicken egg). It just gave the burger a taste I have never had before, but want again. Delicious. Thick potato wedges were tasty as well... so good, I asked for more. Plenty of parking, quaint town. Talking to the owners was a treat as well, it's nice to have on-site owners. They mentioned it's a hit with theater goers, I didn't even realize there was theater in Chester, I'll have to check that out too, and hit the restaurant before or after the show... Glad to see a nice local couple making a difference with delicious recipes and locally sourced food. Good karma in the Berkshires. UPDATE: I've been here a few times since my first review, with different groups of people, it's been unanimously considered great, with everyone pleased with their food and service, and with the addition of changing food specials, the food offerings keep getting more creative. I spend summers in Middlefield & this is my favorite spot in the Hilltowns. The food is hand-crafted and delicious, and the service is warm and friendly. My kids love the burgers; the shepherds pie, jambalaya and curry are all excellent. Great craft beer menu, awesome desserts. Highly recommended! The owners are heroic and amazing and stayed open with takeout and outdoor dining through the ongoing crisis, which was much appreciated by my family. What a great meal after cross country skiing at Canterbury farm. Our waiter, Nick, was attentive, polite and professional. The food was excellent! The crispy chicken bites for an appetizer seasoned with barbecue sauce were the bomb! Our entrées of jambalaya and coconut curry were tasty and plentiful. We stopped in on a Friday night - live music and a large party meant we had to wait a bit for our meals (they let us know in advance), but atmosphere and the delicious cocktails made the time fly by! They care a lot about the food, atmosphere and experience. 80% of the time we get the Ribs and the Country Fried Chicken, but everything we've had is delicious. My friends and I were out in western mass for a day of cliff jumping and after 8 hours we decided to find somewhere to eat. We settled on this place called Chester Common Table and it was the best dining experience we have ever had. Aaron and Erin were gracious hosts and aaron was the sweetest and kindest waiter we ever had and they made all the food themselves. From appetizers to desserts everything was phenomenal and we felt so at home at this cute restaurant. One of the best spots during this pandemic. My family and I have been getting take out from local restaurants to help out and also not cook for one night. We have realized that we now rate the restaurants on how well their food packs to go and makes it home. Excellent, is how! We got the fried chicken, chicken pot pie and the French onion soup. None of the food was heavy or too salty. The French onion soup is divine, made with their Miso- brilliant and amazingly flavorful. The other entrees had wonderful herbs, not too strong, just right for a flavorful meal. Also had a side salad that held up, wasn't wilted and had just enough to not make it feel like a piece of lettuce with some onion like some other places. Service over the phone was excellent and pick up was quick. Walking up on that old wooden porch to enter and passing through freshly painted original door way and wood work is an experience in itself. This makes us want to come back and sit OutSide on the porch on a spring, summer or fall day. Ambiance inside was crisp, nostalgic, warm and inviting. The socially distanced tables were proper, safe feeling and perfectly done! We have a new baby so sitting inside for us right now can't happen but this is one place we can't wait to come back to once we feel better about going out for our family.
