This restaurant has been popping in FB feed lately so we decided to take a ride. Chicken pesto sandwich, BBQ chicken, BLT, French onion soup, hot sour cabbage soup all topped off by chocolate cheesecake and bread pudding = amazing. Great atmosphere, quaint and homey. Vegan and GF items available. I can't say enough about the chicken pesto on their homemade bread. It's not the usual chunk of chicken with pesto on top. Chicken is shredded and the pesto is mixed in during prep. This means tons of warm chicken and delicious pesto oozing from every edge. Worth the trip up scenic Rte 20. We will be back! read more

We could not be happier to have found Chester Common Table! We went for the first time tonight since we live in nearby Becket and can't believe we waited so long to try it! Finally a great restaurant in Chester! Terrific live band, drinks, large selection of local craft beers, and really great food! Locally sourced ingredients combine on a menu of classics with a creative and locavore twist. non pretentious food (grass fed beef shepherds pie, YUM) in a warm, friendly environment. My favorite restaurant in the area. If you've been there before, chances are Erin and Aaron (owner/managers) will greet you by name. Excellent locally sourced food, and a nice selection of both draft and mixed drinks. The French onion soup and kale salad are my go-to favorites. Be aware that it gets busy when there is a show at Chester Theatre around the corner (summer evenings and weekends), so make a reservation and/or give yourself a bit of extra time. We've eaten here at least a half a dozen times and the food is very good. The place could use a little more charm but it is a work in progress and has been improving since our first visit a year ago. The Blackened Catfish is outstanding as are the roasted potatoes that come with them. Too many good offerings on the regular menu to write about. They offer specials that are usually seasonal and those are spot on for the most part. Sometimes the specials are a home run and sometimes not but they have always been good. Some nights there is live music which is just the thing for an interesting full night of entertainment. The proprietors are always on hand and will do everything in their power to make your experience a pleasant and delicious one. The place is popular and as a result the kitchen can be a little slow occasionally. However the service is always attentive. They have a good selection of beers and wines at reasonable prices. In fact everything is priced very fairly. So just go already! And make a reservation to be safe. read more

Great find in sleepy Chester, MA. A little off the beaten path, but definitely worth finding if you are in the area. The two owners very warm, engaging, the menu nicely rounded collection of offerings, all reasonably priced, all prepared with fresh local ingredients. Truly spectacular meal, cocktails, and service. I'd make another trip from Philly to the Berkshires literally just for this restaurant. Everything was a highlight. The mushroom caps were killer. The French onion soup, a dream. The carrot ginger soup special paired with a special gin ginger cocktail was off the ginger chain. The shepherd's pie was so effing delicious! And the flourless chocolate cake set the standard for what dessert can, should, must be! This was going to be 1-2 stars but things were rectified so a 3 was given. It was our first visit here, made reservations outside and were seated right away. Our waitress was friendly. The early on mishaps were our main meal came out before our appetizers so we asked to cancel the appetizer then. And then it took almost 10 mins to realize we were given someone else's meals that were identical to ours. Our correct meals did then come out and we were apologized too. We ended up still getting our appetizer to go with no charge on us so it very appreciative about that. The reason for only 3 stars besides the mishaps on the dinner were we really weren't checked on very often, had to find the waitress ourselves twice and since we did dine outside on an October eve (we just aren't comfortable yet with indoor dining), we did assume that heat lamps would be involved with fall outside dining so looking into that would be a great idea for customers who aren't ready to dine inside yet. read more

Wow, it seems like I was in a different place. Our lunch was horrible: a BLT on toast so old and dried out it crumbled as I picked it up. Half the bacon was underdone. A kale salad was awful and stuffed mushrooms were raw under a gob of cheese. Yuck! read more

I've really enjoyed my experiences at this restaurant. The lasagna and fried chicken are wonderful and the catfish special was so so great. Having worked in restaurants for 20 years myself, I am particularly picky. I think the food, service, & drinks here are exceptional. AND they have a bocce court in the backyard and fantastic beers on tap! Even though I'm not from Chester, I've felt welcomed like it's my own neighborhood pub thanks to the friendly staff. read more

We liked the intimate feel of this place, right in downtown Chester near the railroad tracks. Warm open atmosphere, friendly service, with fun comfort food options. For example, we got deviled eggs, BBQ mac n cheese, and coconut curry with an egg on top (comfort food for me). They have a variety of vegetarian options, with some yummy-sounding vegan choices as well (lentil burger, hummus, salad). Impressive drink selection, especially on the beer side, featuring some local breweries. We came on an unexpectedly busy night, so the service was stretched thin to keep up. Make sure you build in enough time for your dinner; we thought it was a nice reminder to slow down, enjoy the local music & art, and take everything in. Great use of local ingredients, like duck eggs :) Each menu item was affordable and had a fun & unique twist. We really enjoyed all of the food we ordered. If your meal doesn't come with oven roasted potatoes, you should request some on the side! Unfortunately no vegan dessert options (that I could tell), but we heard the cheesecake is amazing... We were able to eat dinner for two at under $40. We'll definitely be back! read more

To be fair, this restaurant is still in its infancy, but I can't say I'll be back anytime soon. The service was cordial, but glacial in its pace. The food needs help. I dined with a large party, and some of us were from the south, so we ordered the fried chicken. The portions were a good size but the coating on the chicken was bland, and the giant shreds of cabbage masquerading as coleslaw were just wrong. Those of us who ordered burgers were universally disappointed that they were overcooked no matter how we asked that they be prepared. One member of our party wasn't even served until most of us were done eating. I suspect that these kinks will be worked out over time, but there is one more thing. What will probably will keep me from ever returning were the drinks. My husband ordered a Manhattan. What arrived filled about a third of a martini glass. Had he known that this sip would cost $12.50, he would not have ordered it. You can't expect to get away with prices like that in a one horse town like Chester. read more
