This sure isn't guacamole, despite what the menu at Chet's says.

Service was abysmal. And the food was pretty awful as well check out this photograph of what they dare call guacamole!! The waiter said I'd made a great choice. This ain't guacamole! Nowhere on Earth would this be considered guacamole. When we questioned it and made it clear we were unhappy with it. The server just left it there.

I literally stopped in for ten minutes to order some quick food to go before hopping on a Flix bus, but was bummed I didn't have time to stay longer. I loved the Historic vibe (which the Halloween decorations added to) where you feel like the architecture has just as many stories to tell as the patrons. I ordered the sourdough French toast that comes with a fruit cup and a banger sausage. I had great aspirations to try to eat this on a moving bus but it went really well. The char on the sausage was delicious. The sourdough with the sweet jelly and syrup was a good combination and I appreciated the fruit cup to lighten up the meal. While I ate it cooled down later on the bus, everything was still delicious and if I am in that area again, I plan to come in and stay for my next meal.

Delicious lunch spot! Highly recommend stopping in, the food was delicious and the ambiance was warm and inviting. Highly recommend the Sweet Spring Salad with grilled chicken, it was perfect and the dressing was perfect! The chips served alongside the burger were also delicious.

Dining room smells like old damp home or mold. Chairs are covered in green velvet. Bartender took forever to take our order. Then a girl comes in and starts making our order. Almost as if she was late for shift. Drinks are small and over priced. TVs behind bar were on sports not fitting the vibe. I'd pass on this one.

The food and drinks My goodness. The prices are high just to eat food that is the quality of buying groceries at Walmart and cooking at home. The sweet potato fries are not fresh. The deconstructed pot pie tastes like canned meat with spaghetti-o sauce. The selection is cheese laden to hide the fact that their entrees are not good. The drinks were not good either. The flavors just don't taste cohesive and these are very normal cocktails so there's no reason for them to not be tasty for the price. I could let it all slide if drinks weren't $15 and entrees $30 - $45. It just feels like a scam. Also the tiny plates they set out before the meal were dirty.

This was our first time at Chet's. Rebecca and Bryce went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. The velvet chairs made for relaxed vibe. The music was good. Rebecca waited our table and delivered amazing service. Bryce was the bartender and made us some amazing lemon drops, along with our other ordered drinks. The have a passion for old fashioned drinks-such a variety. The food was flavorful with plentiful portion sizes. Service was spectacular. Ask for Rebecca and Bryce if you want your visit extra special and really want a celebration. Cheers Chet's!

Came on a Saturday for a friend's birthday with a rezzy for 6. The first impression is some homeless riff-raff going on outside in the area. Upon walking in, the terrible smell others mention you notice right away by the entrance. We sat and half booth, half awkward large king-like cheap chairs that are not comfy to try to eat in, they are for lounging. Our server was all over the place. She spilled a drink on one of us from the get-go, and had other close similar calls. She also went MIA towards the end of our meal, and would never clean up old plates or cups, so our table remained cluttered and dirty. The food was pretty disappointing: -We ordered truffle fries with zero truffle in sight, they just tasted like plain fries. -The cheese that came with the pretzel was hard. -The rice that came with the shrimp plate was super bland. -Chicken pasta had a weird burnt taste to it and was inedible -Entres took a longgg time to come out. Also, our cocktails were all brought out one by one instead of all together. The Positive was they played decent music, but overall the vibes were just weird. It's like they are trying so hard to be chic and boujee but it's just cheap and ghetto when you really see it. I mean they have USB lights in the restroom with the wires just hanging...It didn't seem like there was any management. A few times someone came out of the kitchen who looked like they might be management, I tried making eye contact so we could get help clearing our table, but they didn't care. Also, we were in a rush to go to a concert, so I had to get up to ask for our check, since she stopped checking in on us when our meals were done. Also they added 20% gratuity which felt like robbery after our service. Apparently it's cheaper if you bring cash but who has that.. Highlight was the Chets old fashion and espresso martini is good so there's that. The brown sugar old fashion is very sweet if that is your jam. I would not return.

The drinks were very very strong, but the food was just okay compared to what I was expecting. The steak was a little dry but my boyfriend really enjoyed his truffle mac and cheese. Our server was attentive and answered any questions we had.

Im normally good at picking places with a vibe but I think the experience stopped there with the decor. I ordered the Chicken Masala and what I received was not tasty at all. I didn't even take 2 bites, the thin chicken breasts covered in masala gravy, yellow box rice, and zucchini was left untouched. Ordered an expresso martini with tequila. I was served Kahlua mixed with tequila, the drink had no coffee beans and no sign of coffee if you ask me. Tab was still over $100 bucks and I advised I didn't like my food and nothing was done about it. I don't think I would ever return to this place, not even for happy hour.

- misleading photos with a directionally, unsteady menu + vibe - front of house service was excellent. - Pretzel was fine, sauces were good. Too expensive for what it was. Tasted ballpark-y. - Drinks were fine. A little strong (a positive) - Pulled pork grilled cheese was the standout. Very good, but also, just a grilled cheese with meat to be fair. - Truffle Mac: it would have been great, but I did not like the strong cheddar taste. It didn't help that the cheddar on top wasn't even melted in so it threw everything off. - Did not like how during happy hour: 2 drinks, 2 meals, and a pretzel came out to a $62 lunch

Called in my order for lunch on Friday. (The day before I had tried to call for order and no one answered). The staff on the phone that took my order was courteous. I decided to get that days special which is a burger. I was asked how I'd like my burger cooked which I thought was a good sign. I was told the food would be ready in about 15 minutes. Arrived around that time frame. Walked in from the door along Market street. The first thing that I noticed immediately was the beautiful wooden interior of the building. Classic downtown West End vibes . This has gone through someones attempt at being upscaled though with a "nice" velvet seating. They tried to add a touch of class everywhere like the design on the tables being a lavish psychedelic paint scheme. There is what looks like could be a private room within the dining hall with books shelves and a nice big couch. There was ample seating both inside and out on their nice patio. While all very "nice" I couldn't help but also notice this foul stench. It's definitely something with the building because I've encountered the same odor when getting food from a neighboring restaurant in the same building. My burger arrived a little while after I arrived. What would be like an additional 10 or so minutes after arriving (I'm rounding up from about 7 or 8 minutes). The to go order was able to be paid for at the hostess booth which was convenient. When I arrived back at work to eat my food I was very impressed by the size of my burger. A very beautiful glistening bun. I opted for the potato chips over the fries. The order came with what I believe is an in house sauce. The chips paired very well with the sauce as a nice option to dip if inclined. The portion of food for the price was insanely good; especially for being downtown. With a cost after tax under 10$ its just such a great deal. Unfortunately, while very well priced, the burgers flavor was lacking. Was it good enough to justify coming back? Hard to say. For just about 5$ more I could get one of my favorite burgers in Dallas just a block away. Definitely plan on coming back to Chets to try some additional things on the menu. The day before when I had called I was bummed they didn't answer because the lunch special was a pot roast grilled cheese sandwich. I've heard the steaks are good too. Chets is a decent addition to the faltering West End and hopefully they can do something about the smell. Flavor of burger too maybe? Or maybe it's just my taste buds and everyone else loves it. Give it a try for yourself ? Or maybe opt for something on the next block. Up to you. I wouldn't say I'd recommend the place at this point. Maybe the pot roast grilled cheese will change my mind.

Delicious stop for a cocktail and friends and I explored Downtown Dallas! This bar specializes in old fashions. I ordered a lemon and lavender old fashioned and it may be the best drink I've ever had. The flavor was just right and my lemon was fired as she was making it. The inside has a great vibe with neon lights and blue, velvet chairs. There is also outdoor seating. read more

As you enter, you are greeted with a strong whiff of incense smoke. Some folks are put off but I found the experience calming and inviting. I was not bothered at all as I often light incense at home. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The dining room is quirky with mismatched heavy cushioned chairs and sofas (Think 1970's!). The library area was comprised of a mis-mosh composition of unmatched and unusual chairs and sofas. This place felt more like Austin than Dallas. Still, the service does this place justice. I had a chicken sandwich that was extremely well crafted and was very tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone near the museums. You won't regret it! read more

CHET'S was amazing! The salmon lunch special was one of the best salmon plates I've ever had. Reasonably priced as well. Believe, the new manager at Chet's knocked it out of the park with service, friendliness, and efficiency. If you are neat the JFK Museum on a weekday, you cannot have better lunch than at CHET'S - two blocks from the JFK Museum. read more

Hi, I was excited about trying this place out, but unfortunately I won't be back. I was greeted by a kid name Chris. I asked if we could sit at the bar and he explained that they were only taking reservations. So I asked if we could make a reservation for a later time and he said they couldn't take reservations last minute. He didn't explain why so I said okay I'll check on open table for a later time. I made a reservation on open table and returned later. We walked in and I said we are here for our reservation at 5:30 and he smirked at us and denied our reservation. I asked to speak to his manager and they sent out a kid named Everett and he was nicer and explained they had an event at 8 so they are closing the restaurant early. We walked in three hours before 8 and would've been there an hour max. None of this was explained to me so I asked why there would be open reservations on open table and he said they probably forgot to block it. I looked presentable as I work at a spa and I feel like if it was because of how I looked, I rather they would have said that versus all bar seats and tables are full without even checking anything. Today we came to Chet's for my friend's birthday and we were seated right away. The atmosphere was nice for brunch. Dani was very attentive and did a great job making suggestions. The food was good from starters to our entrees. We had the mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and nachos. All were tasty. The nachos need more cheese or toppings, but the taste of the chips was really great. I got the fried chicken sandwich with the French fries. I was beyond full and satisfied. I will come back here again and will tell others about this restaurant. I'm glad we came here. And by the way get the bread pudding! It's so goood! Get It without the ice cream if you are not a coconut fan! read more

Such a cool restaurant! The ambiance is really chic and modern. A lot of the tables and seating are mixed matched, it looks great! The service was very friendly, and our server was helpful with menu suggestions and substitutions. We were seated right away on a Sunday afternoon, and reasonable wait time for food and drinks The food is very tasty! I ordered the breakfast burger on their brunch menu. It's a lot, but the flavor was on point. One of my friends ordered the pretzel app. A big pretzel with a side of beer cheese and mustard. The pretzel was okay, not stellar. Auntie Ann's is better. Also it's a side of honey mustard and not spicy mustard. That was a flavor let down, spicy mustard and soft pretzels were made for each other! The beer cheese was tasty though, and good with fries! The stand out dish was the fish and chips! Fried so golden brown and crispy, with delicate flaky fish in the middle, and perfect French fries. If I am in this area again and head here, I'm getting them for sure! read more

She was super fun and kind, gave us recommendations on food to get and we honestly had a blast just sitting at the bar with her. A real disappointment. I ordered the grilled chicken which is supposed to come with a mushroom white wine cream sauce and received the driest chicken breast, with mashed potato gravy on top of it. Straight gravy... Everything me and my partner got was under seasoned and lacked any flavor. The server we had was Ana and she was very lost. Didn't really know what to do or how to serve. She said she was new but it seems like she didn't have any training. We ended up going to the street corner to get some food from the hotdog stand. Chet's is not worth the money!! read more

Cool little spot we did some day drinking and snacking at. Really liked the study lounge area. Wait staff was great and attentive. The only reason not five stars is they had a strong sewer smell they were trying to mask with candles. Was noticeable with the front door open but when they had to close it due to the rain, BAM! It was bad. I don't think it was the restaurants fault and good on them for trying to deal with it. Hope they get that fixed before I come back. read more

Absolutely Loved Chets. Both the Irish Stew and Cajun Chicken sandwich were totally amazing. Irish Bread Pudding with ice cream top it all off perfectly. Service was super friendly and top notch. Reasonable prices for the quality and taste. Very clean and pleasant atmosphere. If you're in Dallas and need to eat, stop by Chets and tell'm Trucking Tony from Idaho recommend them. I found the food here average... I had the chicken rigatoni which was spicy (expected) but still seems to lack flavor. Also had the mozzarella sticks which were good. The place itself is a vibe and has a lot of different areas for photo ops. My waitress was friendly as well. read more

I had the fish and chips, ambience was great. The photo doesn't dot it justice the fish was extremely crunchy on the outside and very light and flaky on the inside, I use malt-vinegar and usually a lot, the crunchy batter stayed crunchy through to the last bite. The fries were super crispy as well with a snap, and light and fluffy on the inside. Definitely recommend the fish and chips. read more

The food was good. Service was quite mid. I asked for soda water and was charged. I wondered if it came for their soda machine, and the waitress said yes. I am a server/bartender. Soda water should not be charged if it's Topo Chico, Fever Tree, or Saratoga sparkling. I get it; the server was trying to raise the bill. When asked about she said oh yeah, there was a button for it to be charged. The ambiance is cute and fun. I'll probably be back just for takeout. read more

We are visiting from Florida and were in search of a great lunch spot. We couldn't have been more lucky when we landed at Chet's. The atmosphere was eclectic, yet cozy. Our server, Alexis, was incredible! She was extremely attentive and very helpful. The food was delicious and came out pretty quickly! In Dallas for a convention and we decided to try this restaurant. It is very quaint and has a relaxing atmosphere. The food was amazing and the prices were fair. I got the NY strip and it was cooked perfect. The mashed potatoes were perfectly seasoned. Based on the drink menu I would say they are known for their Old Fashion cocktails. I did not try one as I'm not a lover of that cocktail, however they had a decent list of different ones. Also a stellar selection of whiskey and scotch. I would definitely return here if in Dallas again! read more

The atmosphere was so welcoming, and the food was amazing! Craig was wonderful at helping me coordinate my group reservation and making sure we had the best quality of service! Highly recommend bringing your group here if you're looking for a restaurant that accommodates. The food really gave our group a taste of Dallas and the Mac and cheese was out of this world! 10/10 recommend! read more

Great vibe! Good service and delicious food. Get the potato chips with spicy ranch appetizer- it's a game changer. And if you want a treat have the Caprese salad, the balsamic vinegar is off the charts! They make it in house and it's the best I've ever had. Yum! read more

Wow! I was staying a few blocks away at the westin and found Chets on yelp. Did not disappoint! I got the fish and chips which was the most delicate yet very chruncy fish I've ever had. I didn't get a before pic but you can see I devoured it! The Aviation was an amazing drink. Had a few while I enjoyed the atmosphere. Very cool place! read more

Visited again and can't recommend. No more onion rings, food is more expensive. Chicken sandwich was greasy, sweet potato fries were under-cooked and floppy. Hostess seemed annoyed to be there, but the server was nice. Dallas has so many options, sad this place went downhill. read more

Johnny Walker Black ($16): This was our friend's drink, which I think was just coke and Johnny Walker. Nothing special about the taste either. Given the smell and so-so/terrible cocktails, we will not be coming back or taking our friends here.

The scallops and chicken were extremely salty and lacked flavor, and the chicken was overcooked. When we brought it up, the server did little to address it. To top it off, we saw two large cockroaches around our table, which was especially noticeable in the dark dining room. The cocktails were the highlight, but overall, the service, food, pacing, and cleanliness did not meet expectations. One star. Very disappointing, and I'm not sure I'll be back.

It's also in a very walkable area, which made it easy to visit on foot. There is some parking available, although I would say it's somewhat limited. I don't think it would be the best spot for a very large group, but it would be perfect for a few friends getting together. I also appreciated that you can order a drink while waiting for a table or bar seating, which made the wait feel much more enjoyable. Overall, The Bowen House was one of my favorite places I visited while in Dallas. Between the atmosphere, welcoming service, and well-crafted drinks, it's definitely a place I would return to the next time I'm in town.

Someone suggested coming on Friday or Saturday for the live music and livelier crowd. We'd go back for the drinks, not the food. We spent $145 with tip (food and four drinks).

To be fair, the manager on staff handled our complaint regarding Jake professionally and with care, which we truly appreciated. However, the situation itself left a lasting negative impression. As professionals in the criminal law and medical fields, we value professionalism, discretion, and respectful communication. Being wrongly accused in that manner was disappointing and frankly humiliating. Because of this experience, we will not be returning anytime soon, despite what had otherwise been an enjoyable evening.

Instead of just answering, he snapped "I already know what you're going to do" before finally telling me it was Eddie. Then he called me "high maintenance" and said "get out of my bar". The guests around us looked as stunned as we were, including the women waiting behind him to be seated. Before we left, I verified his name with another server, and Eddie yelled at us for doing that, too. Then we walked straight out. I later learned the owner of this bar is named Eddie. If that is who screamed at us, then there is no manager to complain to and no reason to expect anything to change. This was our second visit. The food the first time was honestly bad, but we gave it another chance since everywhere else was full. Now I understand why this place had open tables on a game day. It was also uncomfortably hot inside, the AC did not seem to be working. No customer should be screamed at for sitting at an empty table. We will not be back and I would not send anyone here.
