I decided to try this place out since it is very close to where I live and has some of my favorite Korean foods on the menu. Although this place was small and had no one else dining at the time we came, I felt like the ambiance was comfortable and inviting enough. I will say that the biggest surprise about this place was the amount of items offered on the menu. I imagine that some foodies would probably have an issue with that but I personally already knew which items I wanted to order. I ordered the jjajangmyeon as well as the soondubu, which came with complimentary banchan. The banchan was not great and I couldve gone without it. However, the jjajangmyeon was pretty nice! Although it had too much veggies in my opinion, the price was not too shabby. It could definitely do with more salt as it was more on the bland side. The soondubu was the most interesting between the two as it was the most non traditional tasting soondubu I have ever had. It did not have the same spiciness and richness as other soondubu I have had, but it was not bad either! The biggest problem I had with it was the amount of beef fat in it so I kept removing the fat as I was eating it. The food here is good and tasty with portions that are pretty decent. Its location is strange but with that makes for a great place to get Korean food in an area that doesn't have a lot. Walking in the host/server told us it was authentic Korean which is strange in the sense that nobody really asked but good to know. The service was pretty good but they don't have a lot of staff so it was tough for her to promptly serve us I guess. I would say overall it was satisfactory. I found Chew Me from yelp and wanted to check it out since I was craving Soft Tofu Stew. It is located in a sketchy area in Garden Grove with tight parking as there are many things in the area. Would not return. Definitely would not agree with those claiming the food is authentic. I found the soondubu broth to be lacking in flavor, and the kimchi to be more red colored than actually tasting like kimchi. This restaurant just opened recently around one month or so. The server/owner was really nice and took her time to explain the menu to us. They were working to a full opening, so some items were not available yet. On one side of the menu, ramen, chicken/pork cutlet, and pot sticker were available. On the other side, most items were available except yukgaejang, jjamppong, and 1-2 other items. Overall, the food's portion was big and the price was decent. This restaurant has a lot of potential and I can't wait to see them grow. I hope to try their tofu soups next time. K-Galbi 4/5 - The Galbi beef portion were generous. It was good quality and seasoned well. A little too salty for me, but you could eat it with rice to balance out the taste. The fries were definitely 5/5. They were perfectly crispy and airy. I try to not eat too much fries but couldn't stop eating these. Tacos 4/5 - The tacos were good. It is a fusion dish (Asian-Mexican) that came with meat, pickled carrots, onion, ranchero, and melted cheese. I think it'd be better without the pickled carrots since they made the tacos slightly sour. K-Popcorn Chicken 3/5 - The chicken had perfect texture. Soft in the inside, airy on the outside as if it was cooked with an air fryer. The taste, though, was different from what I expected for popcorn chicken. It was more like a soy sauce/orange chicken type of flavor. A lot of dishes came with fries which tasted great. I came here as part of a stop after some activities nearby. Even though the rest of my day was full of fun and games, stopping at Chew Me was definitely an excellent way to finish off the day. We didn't have to wait so long to be seated the day we came. There were some other people eating and the place isn't too big but a spot opened up right away. We ended up ordering a few dishes and were amazed by how generous the portion sizes were. Somehow, it's still the right amount as we didn't have so much left over anyway. Secondly, the service is pretty good. We had a few different waitresses and it seemed like one of them didn't quite understand our order or mistook some of our instructions. I had asked for a soft tofu soup - not spicy but ended up getting a spicy one. We also wanted the beef broth soup but it never came. There was some confusion and misunderstanding. But the manager/owner corrected it right away because she really wanted us to try the dish we ordered. Even though we had to have it as take out, it was still pretty delicious when we got the chance to sit down and eat it. Lastly, it's a pretty family friendly place. Sure, it definitely seems like a family owned business and that's a plus. But our family really liked the high chair the place had. Our child is pretty adventurous and loves to find ways to climb out of the usual high chair places have. But this one was just snug enough for her to be secure without losing any comfort in the process. If we're ever in the area again, we'd definitely love to try this place again. And the Galbi stew includes a dipping sauce to go along with the meat. Now! How did the food taste?! The K Galbi was my most favorite! What I loved about it most was the marinating of the meat, wow! A must order if you love Galbi! The fries could of been better without the parmesan cheese in my opinion. And the salad, it was just okay. Would have loved it if it was spring mix. The side dishes that came with the meal, the kimchi could be better it was lacking flavor. My favorite out of the 3 was the potato side (wish I knew the names). Moving forward to the Galbi stew. The popular soup! It was very rich in flavor. Wish it had some spice to it. The meat on the bones literally fell off the bone. Very soft but wish we had more meat rather than mostly fat on the bone. It is our second time eating here. Since our first visit here I was blown away by the amazing customer service. We had the Galbi Stew big enough to share between two people. Our waitress recommended this and it did not disappoint. Aromatic and the meat was very tender with a side of rice. For dessert we had complementary vanilla ice cream, also very tasty. The ambiance was very mellow and I like that they have the news playing on the television and they play Christian music in the background. Came here the other day with my partner and we had a wonderful time! We did notice the harsh reviews on the authenticity of it being Korean or not. I feel it's often forgotten that jjajang and jjamppong dishes are Chinese/Korean dishes so it won't always taste like the more common Korean focused ones. There IS a distinctly different taste between the styles! We got the jjajangmyun and it was perfectly fine- huge chunks of meat and veggies, not overly sauced, perfect portion to split between 2 people or 1 person could even finish. Definitely not the typical taste people are expecting but it is in fact jjajang. Relax. We got the pan roasted dumplings AND it came with fries! So it was nice to just munch on that on the side. Side dishes included raw onions with vinegar and a side of this black sauce (typical to be served at these Chinese/Korean restaurants). Also a soy pickled radish type of side dish was given. We asked for kimchi, and Monse happily served it to us. People trippin about the kimchi too- it's literally Chinese style kimchi. Not gonna be the same type you'll be served at like BCD Tofu or something. Now you just know what kind of kimchi you don't like. We asked for some red chilli flakes and a side of rice as we like to mix it into the leftover sauce after finished with the noodles- Monse happily brought that to us too. We also saw that later there was no charge for the extra kimchi or the rice, which we actually expected to see! I'd like to really highlight our server Monse- so cute and sweet. She practiced her Korean pronunciation of the items and she did amazing! She was so helpful and attentive. And even brought us free ice cream for dessert too. Just a regular vanilla soft serve with chocolate drizzle, nothing crazy, but a nice treat! And I saw a review about the kimchi stew being mostly cabbage. Yes there is sometimes meat in kimchi stews. But couldn't help but laugh cause FYI- kimchi is cabbage. You are ordering a spicy cabbage stew. There WILL be mostly cabbage. Then saying there was more meat in the galbi stew. That is meat stew girl. If you're unsure- ask??? Don't be disappointed by what you literally ordered. This place is a cute hole in the wall comfort spot. I met the manager of this restaurant at a Korean clothing store and her friendly demeanor made a good impression on me. What a great find! We were immediately greeted by Daisy (the manager) and she enthusiastically introduced the menu. As a lot of Yelpers recommend Galbi-tang, I ordered that and a seafood tofu. You know the soup is good when you burn the roof of your mouth. I've had Galbi-tang from different places before and I'm not an expert on Korean food but this is the best one so far. The meat was tender and the broth was so savory it would make a perfect dish for a cool fall evening. I would eat this again in a heartbeat because you can't eat pho all the time (Daisy told me the chef makes very good pho too). The seafood tofu was also good but that Galbi tang just stole the show. They only gave me 3 banchans but I really don't mind since in this area a lot of dinners might not even eat all of them anyway (I wonder if they mind if I brought some kimchi from Kimchi Nara next time). Speaking of the location, it seems smart for the owner to offer Korean/Mex fusion entrees (quesadillas,burritos, tacos...) and I'm curious to find out how good they are next time. I can't also wait to see how good their Kimchi JJigae and Jjamppong are. The free house pudding dessert was a nice ending to a very satisfying meal. I always love small family restaurants that offer great food and warm service and this hole in the wall is a perfect example. Visited on a Thursday evening and we got seated right away. Service was a 5/5, everyone was very welcoming and the lady who served us was very kind and walked us through the menu as we were deciding. We ordered the Ramen and the K-Popcorn Chicken. It was mediocre. Since this place is an Asian fusion place, both entrees did not really have that authentic Korean taste. I wish they had an allergy warning for their K-Popcorn Chicken because the dish had nuts included and it was not mentioned in the menu. The dish also felt very random and I thought the salad didn't go very well with the other stuff. The plating was nice, but can be difficult to mix everything together. The Ramen was decent. Just tastes like instant ramen. I loved the peach boba but do not think it is worth $7 :( The ambiance had a homey vibe. The banchan is small which include pickled radish, spicy cube pickled radish and potato salad. No kimchi. But the server said everything was made in house and organic. She also brought out white kimchi water saying it's probiotic and good for you. I drank the whole thing because it was so refreshing but my fiancé thought it was too sour for his taste. No option to adjust the spicy level for the tofu soup so be aware of that when you order. It is spicy . The galbitang stew is so rich almost like a pho broth. It's so different from what I usually have but I like the rich flavor. Our server said it's wagyu beef so maybe that's why the broth was so rich.
