Nice Dinner at Chez Frites in Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City. I am pretty picky about Mac & Cheese, some just don't taste like cheese to me, this one was pretty good. The server asked if I had any food allergies, and when I explained that I don't like pepper, and to please not add any extra, the Chef was kind enough to come out and discuss it with me, as I ordered the Chimichurri sauce on the side. He explained that the Chimichurri and Bernaise both have pepper, but the Barnaise was milder. When I couldn't decide, he sent both. Turns out I liked them both! Unfortunately the filet that I ordered Medium Rare came out a bit more Medium. The server Amy came over and asked if everything was okay, I said it was fine, just a bit more Medium than I prefer. She said that she agreed and took that away and requested a new steak. The new steak took quite a while, and when she noticed, she sent over a complimentary glass of wine for the wait. By the time the new filet came out, I was pretty full from the Mac & Cheese, but the second filet came out perfectly cooked. They also give you an enormous amount of fries. Went to chez frites for their happy hour appetizers and the steak and lobster special. It did not disappoint. The deviled egg appetizer with caviar on top was divine as was the mornay steak sandwich. The steak was cooked perfectly but the star of the meal was the lobster and diced green salad. The green salad had such a delicious citrus vinaigrette. The lobster was tender and perfect. Last of all, Joseph the host and our bartender/waiter Corey were very hospitable. Highly recommend. Only downside is that some items were over salted. read more

Chez Frites keeps things simple with a limited menu, but it is well curated for now. We usually dine there every month or two, though the menu will probably need to expand again soon to keep things feeling fresh. The steaks and lobster are really good, and I would take the steak here over Ocean Steakhouse. The chimichurri sauce is a standout and adds a ton of flavor. The only downside is that the salad and fries can be a bit too salty at times, so I always ask for lighter seasoning. Service is usually top notch, which keeps us coming back. read more

Food was decent here. I really enjoyed the fries which I think is what's their selling point, obviously chez frites. If you're staying at Ocean, this is a convenient spot near the lobby. The fries were nice and crispy and seasoned nicely. You could eat it without any sauce but they did have a aioli dipping sauce that was good. Be aware they will charge for the (4) sauces that are supposed to go with certain entrees, wish they'd tell you that. My husband enjoyed the mussels but they could've been warmer. They ended up giving us a desert on the house for this inconvenience. Loved the salad! My food was okay, the chicken was decent, I wish I tried the salmon instead. Been here a few times now so this review is meant to be the average of my visits. Our first visit was around when they first opened. It was fantastic! Scallop appetizer, one lobster tail entree and one filet entree. The scallop appetizer was amazing, frankly the best in town by far! Both entrees were outstanding. The lobster was huge and perfectly cooked. On a different visit, got the mussels. They came out cold. Thought I just got bad luck but have since been told from others that ordered the mussels that they were also cold for them. If you do end up ordering the mussels, expect to get at least 1 refill on the fries to fill you up otherwise you will definitely leave hungry. Got the lobster tail meal on another visit. I mentioned it was smaller this time as compared to our previous visit and was told the supplier shipped the incorrect size last time and this time is the correct size. Scallop appetizer has been removed from the menu - huge bummer! Our most recent visit was happy hour. The food was very tasty but the pricing made absolutely no sense. Raw oysters on happy hour are 2 for $10, INSANE! Pro-tip: order the oysters off the regular menu, they are cheaper. Broiled oysters are good. The cheesesteak is extremely small, not worth ordering. Also had the artichoke and tuna tartare, neither left a lasting impression. I'm a huge fan of Stephen Starr, but after trying this place on multiple occasions, it is now very low on my list of places to return. read more

Chez Frites is a beautiful restaurant and has the Steven Starr style with a classy Parisian feel. A house salad is served for the table (part of the prix fixe). Our group ordered Prime Steak Frites and the Salmon Frites. I believe they also have a lobster option and a vegetarian option All dishes offer unlimited fries. None of us asked for more fries as the amount that came with the plate was enough for us. There are 3 sauce options to select from a Béarnaise, Chimichurri and Peppercorn. I ordered the Steak Frites with the Béarnaise sauce. My steak was very good and cooked perfectly medium. I liked the Béarnaise sauce but if I had to do it over I would have gone with Peppercorn. I enjoy French bistro food and Steak Frites is one of my favorites. Chez Frites version was good but it did not rock my world, not even close. They give you a heaping portion to start out with, but it's nice to have an option for a top-off or two. Located in the Ocean Resort. Our reservation was honored, we were seated right away. Place has an open bistro feel to it. Menu is very small. It is also a prefixe menu, I got the half roasted chicken, it was dry. And my husband got the ny strip. (We thought it would be sliced. No sides. The only sides you get are unlimited French fries (hence the name frites) anything else is ala cart. We did order the cauliflower augratin. To start it comes with a salad, which was good but (no tomatoes, no cucumbers-just lettuce) There are no appetizers. Very strange concept for a restaurant in a casino hotel. Haven't been to Ocean since last year so it's refreshing to have New Restaurants available. This location is in the Lobby of Ocean Casino which is an easy walk from the elevators. I was celebrating a special occasion and booked in advance with special request and the hostess accommodated my request. I greatly enjoyed the First course salad it was delicious that dressing is everything. I ordered the Steak Frites with Bèrnaise sauce and my partner ordered the Salmon with the Chimchurri sauce with unlimited fries and Shrimp cocktail A La Cart. My steak was medium and very juicy the salmon was a nice portion size. For dessert we had the crème brûlée and it was delectable and decadent and creamy. I would definitely come again. Ambiance provides a new but old nostalgia and staff really go above and beyond to provide service and hot fries!! read more

On Saturday, 7/25/26, I arrived with my family of 5 for our 8pm reservation. We were greeted by a young man, wish I could remember his name because he is what made our experience palpable. I made him aware that our daughter had Stage 4 cancer, and was a bit anxious to sit in a crowded room while going through chemo. He immediately suggested a booth and treated her with the most kindest, gentle words. We were then greeted by our waiter, Minolla. At first, he was attentive, offering us drinks and a few menu suggestions. We placed our orders and waited. And waited. And waited. What transpired over the next 90 minutes was awful. Another party was seated at the booth next to ours, and apparently, the one gentleman seated was a regular, or appeared to be. He was loud, a tad on the obnoxious side, loudly introducing our waiter as his "personal waiter". Barking orders, demanding non-stop attention, and the staff at Chez Frites obliged . We sat, waiting for our waters to be filled. Waiting for our food which was finally served by another waiter. The food looked amazing however, we had no silverware to eat it with. We waited, I flagged down another waiter and asked, and after about 15 minutes, we finally got our forks. Needless to say our food was cold. My husband was upset, very upset. We initially told the waiter this was a birthday celebration for my husband, and our 3 adult kids drove almost 2 hours to surprise him. Getting our daughter there was not easy given her current health. So I tried to make the best of it, when Minolla, our waiter finally returned to the table to ask how the food was, I explained we had just gotten our silverware and the food was cold. My husband explained that he felt like our table was forgotten while he dotted over the louder obnoxious table. He apologized but just walked away. he did not offer to fill our waters, I never did get my glass of wine, and he never offered to remake our dishes which were now beyond edible. My muscles were cold. I shelled a few and realized I didn't even have a dish to place the shells into. My daughter ordered mac and cheese, which by the time she got her fork, it was like cold paste. 90 minutes of this waiting, i finally got up and asked to speak with the manager. I explained dhow all our food was cold, our water glasses empty, and how I had to literally stop other staff as they walked by just to get forks. He apologized and said " give me a few minutes to speka with the waiter and make things right". another 15 minutes and he never came back. Minolla returned, saw our plates full, and asked if we wanted boxes to take the food home. I said no, I am waiting for the manager to return. Minolla left, and came back with the check and said they adjusted the bill. Removing a meal to make us happier? I demanded to speak with the manager again, who returned to the table and apologized for not returning when he said he would. I explained that I am agreeable to pay for the 3 steaks my men had eaten, because that is fair. I also said I. insitied they eat it because at that point, they were hungry, and my daughter was so upset that I just wanted everyone to calm down and make the best of it. No one ate anything else, not the side dishes ordered, not the "endless fites" because they were cold. The thing is, the manager still handed my a bill for over $160. a night ruined, a birthday ruined, and the worst service ever. My husband and I are at the Ocean at minimum 3 times per week. This was our first and LAST time ever partaking at Chez Frites. They took no accountability for the awful service, even after we expressed our complaints. If I did not have my sick daughter there, after traveling almost 2 hours, I would have lost my shit in the middle of the restaurant. I would have told the waiter and the manager that Stephen Starr would be disgusted at how they reflected his business. I would not have paid the bill. I have never felt so compelled to leave a poor review, but this was handled in the worst way. Disappointed, Disgusted, and Definitely will not be returning. My biggest regret is that I cancelled my reservations at Amada to give Chez Frites a try, Big Mistake! read more

Chez Frites was the highlight of our trip to Ocean. The restaurant has a warm Parisian feel with vintage French posters, soft lighting, and a lively bar. We sat in a burgundy corner booth that set the perfect mood for dinner. Our server Jacob was fantastic and provided excellent recommendations. We started with scallop crudo in the shell with lime, passionfruit, and hazelnut oil, which was fresh and full of flavor. For mains we shared the steak frites and the lobster frites. The steak was cooked perfectly and served with béarnaise, and the lobster tail was tender, sweet, and much larger than expected. The fries were golden, crisp, and unlimited, and Jacob always seemed to appear with more. For dessert we tried profiteroles with warm chocolate sauce poured at the table, along with a bright and tangy passionfruit tart. Both were excellent. We ended the evening with cocktails at the bar and kept coming back there the rest of the weekend. Chez Frites truly feels like Paris at the Jersey Shore. Last night having friends in from out of town I of course needed to show them what they haven't seen at Ocean Resort so after our tour we decided to grab a cocktail and continue talking about the property. We went to one bar called the lobby bar where we sat half of the bar was empty there were two bartenders so that would've been fine but after sitting for just under 15 minutes not one of the two bartenders either made contact with us or said I'll be right with you or anything so we got up and decided to go to Chez Frites, one of Stephen Starr's new restaurants at Ocean Resort and Casino. We were greeted immediately by Corey you're welcomed us offered us a variety of waters and served us attentively for the next couple hours. Our cocktails were delightful, we all went with our individual favorites, all made with the highest of mixology skills. The place is spotless, of course, that's a Stephen Starr and an Ocean Resort priority standard. Not having had dinner yet I ordered a shrimp cocktail it came out promptly the young person who delivered it also delivered a smile with a warm introduction of mushroom shrimp cocktail. It was served on ice five large shrimp cooked to perfection and a delicious fresh made cocktail sauce. Everything was chilled and had nice presentation. Two of the shrimp, did not have everything removed in the Peeling and deveining process. Our cocktails were served with beverage naps and a formal pressed napkin and spotless silverware were served with the shrimp. The General Manager, Joe stoped by a couple times to check on us and to make certain we were being well taken care of. One of our rounds I asked if there was a suggested special or house cocktail, Core shot back appropriately offering a selection of, so many places nowadays will just respond what do you feel like or even say no. ‍. He then offered us a fresh peach purée and champagne cocktail, it was fantastic. Both Joe and Corey suggested desserts promising they are the absolute best around, we will verify that next visit!. we sat at the bar inside the restaurant facing out into the casino common walkway area so it was a fun entertaining view along with the beauty of the restaurant the bar was meticulously planned with great detail details is very clean the barstools leather was like butter quality and comfort was unmatched. The first course, salad was a basic greens salad with a tasty white balsamic dressing - very fresh. You really need to love fries (frites) because they gove you are lots. The server was bragging about how perfect the fries were. She said they are crispy and never soggy. It took forever for our dinners to come out. Both our steaks were overcooked and dried out. So, we both had to send our steaks back. We were starving, so we asked if we could keep the fries, cause they wanted our steaks back.... Well, the fries were salty as hell and soggy. You get better fries at any fast food place. It took another 15 minutes for our second set of steaks to come out. They were cooked medium and juicier, but lacked taste. Honestly, I've had sirloin at Applebees that was better than this nearly $50 NY Strip Steak. We were dying to thirst from the salty fries and had to keep getting our tiny water glasses refilled. After reading some of the comments I was nervous about going. I'm glad we went. Just like the comments the salad was good. It was perfectly dressed but could have used a few tomatoes and some cucumbers to make it a complete salad. Both my husband and I had the mussels. They were so good. The sauce was a great vehicle for dunking the fries into. We shared the cauliflower gratin, which was good. The only problem was no wetnaps for wiping your hands afterwards. Between the mussels and sauce and the salt and oil from the fries you need something to wipe your hands with. Hubby decides to get the chocolate mousse. I thought it would be sweet with a lot of whipped air and cream. It was very dark with specks of chocolate in the mousse with a cannelle of dense whipped cream that wasn't overly sweet. Strip steak was cooked poorly and was frankly a terrible piece of meat. Texas Roadhouse is better. The filet was better. At best choice meat. Management is a mess. They clearly don't know steak. Underwhelming. The atmosphere is very plain and comes off as low budget. Menu selection very limited, but that isn't necessarily bad if what you make is outstanding. Steak was okay but no where near as good as the same dish at Parc (his rittenhouse square iconic restaurant). French fries (the star of the show apparently) were luke warm and wilted; even the refills were not that hot. No bread service which is very strange for a steak house. Being a fan of most Steven Starr restaurants I went in feeling optimistic. I have to say this was a completely underwhelming experience. We went on a Friday night and there was plenty of availability. We were seated immediately. The service was attentive for sure. My dirty martini was good but only 1 blue cheese olive. We asked for more and they brought a few more right away. I had the lobster tail, my husband had the strip steak. Both were good but just nothing special. The fries were plentiful but looked like the bottom of the barrel. The presentation was just plain ( steak on a plate and fries , same for the lobster tail - just on a plate with fries). No pretty presentation nothing that made you feel like you were in one of the hip cool Starr restaurants. I can't imagine this is up to the standards of his other properties and that it will have any longevity. I could get a better steak and lobster tail at The Palm. read more

I really wanted to like this place more than I did. Was good, but food not worth the price. Salad was good and fresh, but, ordinary- simply lettuce and vinaigrette. Salmon was good, but plain- lacked seasoning, and looked like a boiled piece of fish. Hubby got the steak, cooked to proper temp, but was very salty. Both served with an overly salty bearnaise. Meals come with 'frites'- basically overcooked, oversalted, limp, french fries. For what is supposed to be the star of the menu, they could have been golden brown and piping hot. A la carte mussels were very good, but again, on the salty side. Service was good, maybe a little overbearing, and food came out quickly- maybe too quickly- for a fine dining restaurant. I'm generally not too critical of restaurants, but being that this was touted as Steven Star, upscale dining, I guess I had greater expectations.
