excellent wine that came in the pairing
    Natalie F.

Sometimes you go to a restaurant for a meal, and sometimes you go for an experience. The meal we had at Chez Nous went beyond a simple dinner. It was an experience from start to finish. We made reservations for the courtyard and I am so glad we did since it was perfect October weather. Tony and Hilton took care of us and did an exceptional job. They were attentive without being overbearing. The menu was difficult to read but it wasn't really needed as Hilton explained every single dish and was super knowledgeable on everything. We started with the veal sweetbreads with turnips and the salted cod stuffed peppers with Yukon gold potato puree. Both were exceptional and unlike anything I have ever tasted. They served fresh bread at the beginning and I loved dipping it in the sauce that came with the stuffed peppers. For entrees, my mom and I got the swordfish with vanilla saffron sauce. I was curious about this because I had never heard of vanilla being incorporated in a dish with protein. However, they did a remarkable job of bringing the ingredients together. The vanilla was vague but just enough to be identified. The swordfish was cooked beautifully. I don't usually lean towards ordering fish at a restaurant but I would order this again and again. My dad ordered the pork chop with chanterelle mushrooms, spinach, and walnut vinaigrette. I was lucky enough to snag a bite. It was cooked to perfection with the sous vide technique. It was cooked so perfectly I fear any other pork chop I will ever eat will pale in comparison. For dessert we once again tried both offerings-the chocolate meringue and the lemon rosemary cake. The chocolate meringue had a chocolate sauce and chopped pistachios on top. As someone who doesn't usually like meringue, I loved this dessert. The lemon rosemary cake was perfect and had a creamy lemon curd on top. I couldn't decide which one I liked more. My mom got the wine pairing with her meal and said they did a great job identifying the wines that complimented the meal well. I do recommend bringing mosquito spray if you are sitting on the courtyard. We were eaten alive. The communal table in the courtyard in a unique concept because you can mingle with other people dining at the restaurant but since everyone is being seated at different times be prepared to hear the menu being thoroughly described about 7 different times. If that is something that would bother you I recommend getting an individual table. The courtyard was also cool because there was a window looking into the kitchen where you could see the chef work. Service was excellent and attentive. When we got our dessert my mom did have to wait a while to get her last glass of her wine pairing for quite a bit even after asking. For the price point, the wine should be served immediately with the dish. Total was $377. $408 total with tip. Overall great experience. Would definitely come back.

Such a very special place. They take so much pride in serving such wonderful food! We sat at the big table on the patio, fortunate to be a beautiful night outside.. towards the end however we were getting bit by mosquitoes. I decided to do the wine pairing with dinner. The first two glasses were perfect. Our server explained the menu which was handwritten and Hilton, our server did a great job of explaining in detail the menu which changes every day. We did have one of each appetizer. We enjoyed the stuffed peppers and the sweet breads. I chose the swordfish with vanilla sauce over the pork chop which my husband had. The outdoor patio is a communal table and we met several nice people. It is very pretty . Our dinner here was very memorable!

We finally made it to Chez Nous! Got a reservation on the patio for our anniversary. The patio is super cute and rather than sitting at the communal table, we were seated off to the side at a table for two. The only thing to note is that my husband was in view of a large street light the whole time, but we weren't going to complain. Service was friendly and prompt - the server reads you the menu of the day, and you're at its mercy. Next time I'll probably try to get bar seats after seeing the menu so I can choose my favorite menu! This night's menu was good - steak, fish, celery salad, foie gras, olive oil ice cream, rice pudding. Everything was prepared excellently, but our favorite dish was probably the olive oil ice cream.

Tucked away in a charming historic house, Chez Nous lives up to its name--"our home" in French--offering an intimate, home-style dining experience that feels both personal and inspired. Chef Jill Mathias crafts a new illegibly handwritten menu daily, featuring just two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts--each dish a reflection of what's fresh and in season locally. Our party of three had the good fortune of trying the entire menu, and every course delivered something memorable. The meal began with a delicate stuffed squid, tender and flavorful, and a green salad with ricotta toast that balanced creamy richness with crisp greens. For mains, the milk-braised pork was comforting and deeply savory, while the fish with asparagus and mushrooms showcased bright, springtime flavors and pristine seafood. Each bite affirmed the kitchen's dedication to simplicity, technique, and ingredient quality. Desserts didn't disappoint. The rice pudding with caramel was rich and nostalgic, and the coffee ice cream was smooth, bold, and an ideal end to the meal. Chez Nous offers a rare kind of dining: unpretentious, thoughtfully executed, and rooted in the joy of sharing good food. Chef Mathias' approach feels quietly revolutionary in its restraint and elegance. A must-visit for those seeking something truly special in Charleston. Book your Reservation 30 to 45 days out.

Great restaurant in an easily accessible area. Delicious food and nice clean interior. Very friendly and helpful wait staff.

Chez Nous has been at the top of my list for quite some time and it was simply spectacular. We went for birthday date night and couldn't believe we were just a block off of King Street. The outdoor area is so quaint and dreamy. They have a long community table and three two tops. They honored our request for one of the two tops and it was perfect. As sweet as the interior was I just loved the outside feel and would love to do a girls night at the community table. Unfortunately my husband has a nut allergy so we were a bit limited in what we could order but we got one of each entree and loved them both. The bread service was also wonderful. My one complaint is that our server was not as attentive as the other staff outside. Nonetheless, we loved our meal and the vibes and are already planning our next trip back.

Yummy!!!! Definitely need a reservation! Make sure to get here early enough to find street parking. Such an intimate setting. Small menu that rotates daily. Staff are great and will explain everything. Food is so tasty and unique.

We went here for my birthday celebration and it was lovely. I was a little upset that I accidentally booked the bar instead of a table but everything turned out great. I believe the bartenders name was Nicki and she was super helpful. We ended up ordering one of everything on the menu and I decided on the wine pairing. This is a super quaint hidden gem that I had driven past multiple times and heard so much about, so I pleased to finally get to go in. The food wasn't exactly what I expected but it was tasty. I had the hangar steak for my entree and the tuna crudo for my appetizer. The crudo truly stole the show. My mom had the fish and the appetizer with squash and pine nuts and basil. Everything was so fresh and light. I would love to go back and try the menu another night.

Went here for anniversary dinner and it. was. excellent. Everyone was so friendly and personable, and the food was perfect. Decadent, salty, buttery, and the kind of meal you just want to indulge on sometimes. Typical Charleston prices, but worth it to me. The changing menu makes it feel so special, and the presentation is gorgeous. Wish they had more nonalcoholic options, but the wine list was great. I'll be back.

WOW the food!!! Yes it comes off a little crazy because you can't read the menu - it's hand written every morning in English and the language of the dish origin - and only have 2 options for each course but my goodness is it worth it. This is a hidden gem that feels like a small European bistro, serving a changing menu focused on dishes from France, Italy, and Spain. Our server - Hylton -was incredibly helpful. He broke down he menu for us, gave recommendations based on our preferences and was just overall a joy to talk to. The food was fresh, flavorful, light yet filling. This fish was beyond flaky and bursting with flavor. The tomato tart was an unexpected star. And of course we got dessert. Drinks were limited but it's ok bc we were there for the food. Tables and space is small, its in a little alley so really have to look but so quaint but may not get space so try again!

Chez Nous is a splendid little restaurant built in a former house found off the beaten path. Having walked here from my hotel I appreciated the ambiance and also glad I didn't take from the limited parking. The restaurant has an old world charm as though I could imagine an inn like this several hundred years ago with its lower ceilings, hand written menus, and cute bar. It is super charming. The service was delightful. I was warmly greeted upon entering and seated at the bar. The bartender was very pleasant to speak with, though initially a little off-putting because I tried explaining that a much more expensive glass of wine would be wasted on me due to my weakened sense of smell and he tried underplaying my explanation as though he either wanted to sell a more expensive wine or he didn't believe me. But that was the only interaction that didn't mesh well - otherwise it was a fabulous experience sitting here. And they do have an amazing wine selection! This is absolutely where you want to go if you love wine. The food was amazing. As many noted already the menu is not static. It is constantly changing, but I can tell you the fish was cooked perfectly - light, flakey, and tender without being dry and no errant bones. The cake also was delightful! It was sweet, dense, and delicious. Super charming restaurant! I recommend reservations due to how busy it became when everywhere else was slow.

Ask the Community - Chez Nous

    Is the restaurant wheelchair accessible?

Yes and no. The pathway is wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair; however, there are a few steps up into the restaurant dining area or down onto the outdoor patio.

Are they able to accommodate vegetarians?

Yes! The menu changes daily and there's only 2 each of starters, mains, and dessert. It's a scratch kitchen too, so if you let them know you're vegetarian, I'm positive they can make dishes to accommodate you.

Is the only option for outdoor dining at the communal table for a group of 3?

Yes. Outdoor dining is only at the communal table, but it's also a great way to meet new people and make new friends!

Do I need a reservation for lunch?

It's a fairly small restaurant. A reservation would be advisable.

For dinner is the dress still casual?

    Yes.

Do they allow well behaved dogs in their outside seating area?

Sorry, I do not know. I would call to ask because the food is worth it!!!

    Do they take reservations?

They take reservations on RESY or I think you can call.

Finds your table, if you arrive early for a reservation we had luck with them seating us and he says a kind goodbye as we left each time. Nice list of 3 mocktails so even if not consuming alcohol one can look to play the part at the table and enjoy the flavor notes of a well made cocktail. The first meal we had was a bit of a work/get together meal. We ordered an assortment of items off of the menu and created a more tapas menu. The charcuterie board we picked the cheeses for and it was lovely. All as expected and quite surprised to find a cheddar I enjoyed. Came with some grapes, figs, nuts, honey and I think mustard. Glazed carrots were phenomenal. Heartily enjoyed the beet salad and thought the presentation was quite pretty. Lamb lettuce wraps are alright. Not my favorite of all the dishes served but delivered as promised, nicely cooked and presented. Spouse really liked the lamb wraps and were a stand out dish to them. Meatballs are excellent truly great texture and flavor. Escargot was a fun take on a classic dish. Finished with a unique strudel in its presentation it was quite pleasant. Spouse liked the peanut butter chocolate dessert. For brunch, I had the carrot ginger soup. Which I must say was a total delight. The soup had the hallmark texture and base flavor of the carrot ginger but it had a beautiful breath of savory and some heat seasoning wise to it. It was quite an elevated soup and heartily enjoyed! I followed the carrot soup with a French toast. I am all for softly scrambled eggs but the French toast was a touch undercooked. (I did not let the restaurant know or give them the chance to make right. I regularly eat soft boiled eggs and soft scrambled so I felt comfortable with consuming them.) Strawberries were ripe and tasty. The whipped cream was gorgeous in thickness and flavor. One in law had the caesar salad with croutons and grilled chicken. Their bowl was left clean so while they are not the talkative of sorts they did seem to enjoy it. Ordered a baguette with butter. Unfortunately the butter never made it to the table but the baguette was enjoyed. Spouse had the Azur burger with the side of tapas style potatoes. All was cooked properly to temperature and texture. Flavor and taste as promised. Wasn't their favorite dish at Azur as we had tried so many lovely dishes a few evenings before. But it did deliver on what was represented in the menu. Other in law had the quiche and a side salad. They liked the quiche and would order it again.

The space alone is worth a visit -- soaring high ceilings, stunning architectural details, and a beautifully designed bar that immediately sets the tone. It feels grand without being stuffy. We were seated right away in a large semi-circle booth that was both cozy and spacious for our party of four -- the perfect balance of intimate and comfortable. Maddie, our server, greeted us promptly and took our drink orders. We started with a dirty martini, a crisp glass of Sancerre, and two Autumn Old Fashioneds -- all expertly prepared. From there, we asked Maddie for recommendations, and she absolutely nailed every single one. Her guidance truly shaped our evening. To start, we ordered the Pomme Frites and the Sweet & Beet Salad. The frites were a plate of crunchy, golden deliciousness -- yes, a touch salty, but in that can't-stop-eating-them kind of way. The Sweet & Beet Salad might sound like an unexpected pairing with sweet potatoes and beets, but somehow it worked beautifully. The flavors were balanced, thoughtful, and surprisingly harmonious. For mains, the Chicken Fricassée was well executed and comforting. The Boeuf Bourguignon, however, was the undeniable star of the night -- rich, deeply flavorful, and beautifully prepared. It's the kind of dish you think about the next day. The Gnocchi Parisienne was light yet decadent (if that even makes sense), pillowy and indulgent without feeling heavy. We also ordered the Market Catch -- a type of snapper none of us had ever tried before -- and it was cooked perfectly, flaky and packed with flavor. By the end of the meal, we were happily full and couldn't even consider dessert. Maddie suggested we at least pop downstairs to check out the speakeasy bar, even if we didn't grab another drink -- and we're so glad she did. I have to give Maddie the recognition she deserves. She was fantastic -- knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely fun. She made an already wonderful dinner even more enjoyable. An absolute delight. Ask for her if you can. If you're looking for a beautiful setting, classic French-inspired dishes done right, and service that elevates the entire experience, Brasserie La Banque should absolutely be on your list.

Beautiful and elegant atmosphere. Friendly, but slightly…read moreslow service. Excellent croissants. The other food was overly hyped. Definitely try the chocolate and the cookie butter croissants. We shared one of each for our table of four. Both were very good.
